And you didn't expect this from the get go? We're a city known for its rain not its snow. I quite enjoyed the beginning of the opening ceremonies, but it got boring after a certain point. Even being a native myself, their little musical bit telling the story of the native people was far too drawn out. The lighting effects were neat though =p. Leave it to Canaderp to not test their fancy ascending ice pillars beforehand. XD

I talked to someone who was in the ceremony who said that they'd practiced it day in and day out for quite awhile and there were no probelms though. :3

Thank god NBC has finally decided to stop showing footage of the incident. There's a quite reasonable line between reporting and exploiting and half of the internet population/tv networks have crossed it.

Ended up going to see a men hockey game yesterday. Finland vs. Belarus. Going to Russia vs. Slovakia later tonight.

Women's hockey always goes to Canada or United States. It's just not that big in other countries. As for mens there's no clear winner in sight. While the two favorites are Russia and Canada, United States could easily take the gold. There's NO discussion about their team at all; no pressure for them either. Sweden's team is getting a bit old now, but they've got some good young talent and cannot be discounted. Finland and Slovakia both have solid teams, one of them could easily snatch up a bronze or silver (in fact I think finland has the most medals in olympic hockey)

You have to think about it-- if your ice skate comes undone, that could lead to some huge issues, but I've never actually seen that happen until now with Oda.

Woo. That was amazing. I was nine rows up in the corner right behind the net where all the action happened; got a perfect view of Russia' tip-in goal in the second period as well as Slovakia's equalizer in the third - amazing setup by Pavol Demitra btw.. was right FUCKING there when he got the winning shootout goal too. :3 Best Hawkey game I've ever been to.

Tomorrow I think I'ma go down and see all the tourist-y stuff dtown; the aboriginal pavillion, various countries' houses etc. Later in the evening I'll see if I can get into Deadmau5 and Avril Lavigne. Thursday I'll be going to see Jonathan Coulton (see avatar) and next friday is Five Alarm Funk. This is a pretty amazing experience for an event I was dreading.
