You can't. Instead, you must go all the way around the continent, and I mean ALL the way around, if you want to get back up the sand slide. Look at the world map (viewable by pressing "R") for help. You'll re-enter the desert, and will have to start over from there. You're talking about the place with a sign that says, "Beyond this point there is no way back", right?
