A robot doesn't need to be independent to be a robot. Ever see Battlebots a few years back? Those were remote controlled, but were still considered robots.
And if you're referring to independent as in that Asimo robot from Honda, where it's just programmed, these are the same things anyway. It's not as if someone has a remote control to move it like that...
