Greasemonkey lets you install "user scripts" that let you filter out stuff on a webpage or add functionality. So let's say you go to a site a lot that has annoying google ads and sidebar ads and whatnot - well, you can get rid of that! Foreva!
But first, you'll need Platypus. Platypus, once enabled, lets you select elements in a webpage (it creates a red highlight) and you can hit Delete and get them out of the site. So basically, it's someone else's site with your own modifications.
Just make sure to read on how to use 'em, and you should be good.

You guys just heard about Greasemonkey? I've been using it for a while now. Its changes to Amazon and Gmail alone are worth it.
Another good extension to have is BetterSearch. It probably could be made as a Greasemonkey script, but I can't seem to find something like that. Anyhow, what it does is look up snapshots of websites listed by Google, Yahoo!, and other, and places the thumbnails next to the site link. Very convenient, IMO, since it gives you a better idea of what the site is about before you click on it.

You can find it if you search "Search" in extensions for Firefox and scroll down a bit.
