You ever get the feeling as if some group of people look/act/speak/ differently to you because of your colour/religion/backround? Just a question I wanted to ask you guys. I went to a party sometime ago and as I walked in a black guy walked out. He look at me and gave me the traditional nod of approval in other word he said"wuz up" to me. Now he kept walking and didn't say anything to my friend beside me who is Hindu. My friend makes the remark saying because I was black that the guy acknowledge me and didn't say anything to him. At school it's the same feeling with teachers and classmates but with different circumstances. As in the teachers are always watching me and my classmates are always shooting out racial jokes about how it's sick being black.

I use the word black because thats what they call me- I am black not african. Do you see these customs where you live? Not just with blacks but with all races. Just something for you guys to think about.

Oh, sure. It's like that pretty much everywhere. It's not necessarily favoritism of any kind, but the races tend to keep to themselves.

I myself am white, but I have very diverse groups of friends. Some of 'em are Asian, some of 'em are white like me, some of them are black, some of them are Mexican/Latino/Spanish...

      You get the point. =)

I know that that kind of thing exists but, it doesn't happen much where I live.

We're all pretty much from the same "race" here. It's our grandfathers (or even great-grandfathers) who came from other places, like Europe for example :O.

In my school, I can only think about 2 or 3 African Americans/blacks o.o; Although, they only came for a year and left. (One was a senior and the other two's parents came here for job purposes.)

The only other "race" that we have here (And that I can think about) are the asians :O Most of them are chinese but again, it was their grandparents (and very rarely, their parents) who were born in China. Not them.

^So, they don't really keep much of their customs.

I went to a party full of black people once and somebody asked me to go get the beer coz I was the only white guy there, of course my reply isn't suitable to post on these forums. :P

I go to a Christian School, and I often see the Christian kids not getting favouritism, but smiled upon more than the non-christians. I'm not saying this as a stab at anyone, it's just something I noticed.

Alot of people speak bad against me because I'm a devout Chistian(here). In real life, people treat me very niely because of that.

Prep guys don't like me, mainly because I am a punk and I listen to rock. Prep girls think I am awesome though. :P

I went to Calgary and banff (Canada) for three weeks, and some of the Canadians didn't like me at all. Most were nice though.

Oooh. I just thought about something.

When I went to France, one or two guys were like "Pffsht, they (Sheba and her classmates) live in bungaloos and have no internet."

                That's our stereotype :D

Pah, of course you have internet. Just because you live on a deserted island where the most advanced form of transport is... walking, doesn't mean that you have no internet. =]

Sometimes things work the other way.

I am playing a game of b-ball with some of my friends, and since am quite tall it's easy to shoot over them so then they say cause of my "blackness"(yes I have anubisish friends) is why I am so good at b-ball. I don't mind it at all because thats the best compliment I'll probably ever get out of them.

To tell the truth I'd just school them even without my height.

A growing steroetype of Americans - Everyone thinks we are all racist. Hello, just because half the Americans on internet games may be racist, MOST Americans don't go on those games, so MOST are not racist.

^Actually, I had never heard about that. The first time I heard it was on this forum o.o; But ah well, I don't keep much "contact" with people from the U.S. And then ones I DO keep contact with don't even like to consider themselves citizens of the U.S.

My teacher went on a trip to germany and when he arrived at the airport he was there waiting for a friend. As he waited some german people where whispering and giving him dirty looks. One german even passed by him calling him a frog or toad in german. Minutes later a group was beside him calling him stuff I don't remember in german. Well, my teach knew a bit of german and he figured out that they were discriminating him because they thought he was an american(which he isn't). He went up to them and told them he was a canadian and they all said that they were sorry and such even giving him presents. Funny huh.

It didn't happen to me but there are two boys at my school. The African - American kid asks this other boy who is jewish to see the ball that he is bouncing around and the boy puts it in his pocket, and ignores him, and when the African American kid walks away, the other boy pulls it out again and starts playing with his friends.

Something similar to that happened to one of my dad's friends.

Well, his parents (or at least his dad) were german but, he grew up here in C.R. and later on, he learned german.

So, he went to Germany. He was at this clock store and he was talking to the shopkeeper. But, the shopkeeper didn't want to talk to him for some reason. So, my dad's friend went "I'm not from the U.S." and suddenly the shopkeeper started talking to him and he even said he had his doubts cause his accent was really good.

Very similar things have happened to lots of my dad's friends actually. Another one of them just had to say he was from C.R., just like how your teacher said he was canadian.

Note: I don't have anything against germans. I actually like germans a lot. These were just examples.

Maybe these were Germans who still had Nazi beliefs? Or ones who had family affected by the war? I'm not discriminating, but there are still Germans out there hanging onto the belief of racial superiority.

The ony person I know who is really different in school also black acts like a real jerk so I can't think of any possible way not to have these racial customs brought over those groups. It's because some off them missbehave to much or do things and get noticed for them.

Well, another racial custom we got here is that black "gansters" hate it when non-black people(or mexicans) listen to rap and act gangster. Especially when it's an asian, white dude, or non-american. They don't mind non-american blacks though. They think Jamaicans rule.

Another is that the Mexicans in our school don't like other latinos really. They make fun of Puerto Ricans alot, and sometimes people from Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatamala.

We have a HUGE mexican influence in our school, and a HUGE african america influence, and a HUGE rap influence. That's becoming too much of a custom here.

Hell yeah XD I think it is cause their stereotype is the same as the stereotype for all of latin america. We are little indigenous people that live in huts in the middle of the forest...and we don't know what computers are. And apparently, you have to speak to us in sign language cause we're dumb and don't speak any known language. And it is hot and sticky. ET CETERÁ. D:

ALL of us get pissed off at that stereotype o.o But apparently, some/most mexicans get more ticked off than the rest of us(latin americans). First, they tell us how Mexico is so great (I'm not saying Mexico isn't great. This comment is not sarcastic) Then, they MIGHT backfire and compare themselves Guatemala or Costa Rica for example D:

I don't blame them though. If you look at it from a general perspective, they're sort of right XD

So, the way I see it, most latin-americans act like "I'm so better than you!" against each other. I can tell cause we tend to keep track of each other.

But at the end of the day, we can easily unite n.n; Deep down, we actually have the same basic culture.

I hosted a French exchange student, and my friends hosted Germans. Everyone really liked the French guy because he was really sociable, but the Germans kept in their own little group and didn't really socialise, so the reaction to them wasn't very positive

I just remembered something my teacher said. He said that if he was ever prime minister of Canada he would close immigration to Canada because immigrants take all the profitable jobs. Almost all of us in the room were immigrants so we gave him a stare and then he never said anything after that. I was wondering what the guy must have been smoking to say something like that in a room full of immigrants. Must have been some crazy shiz.

One racial custom in would be that the Salvadorians put down everybody else who isn't a "Proud Salvi" or anybody who won't agree to like Salvi's more than any other latino group. This makes me angry because it's a constant popularity battle. "SALVIS ARE SO MUCH BETTER""NO, MEXICAN PRIDE""IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BRAZILIANS" and so on and so forth. I'll have to agree with Sheba when she said that they keep track of each other. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?!

^Nuu. We DO get along cause we all have the same background. But the problem is, we're all too freaking individualistic. And because we are all (sort-of) under-developed, it is like a competition between who has the shinniest shoes.
