Sethro's right about the story.
But, historically it's kind of sad. It has something to do with jewish marriages. It think they were against them in...Russia or something, at some point. So, when the bride was going to her wedding, they would take her carriage and bury her alive. ... Or maybe they killed her before burrying her. It's something along those lines.
*goes do research on it* D:
[EDIT That took two seconds, literally]
"The Corpse Bride is a story based on actual events that occurred in 19th century Russia, at a time when anti-semitism was widespread in eastern Europe. Very often bands of anti-semites would waylay a Jewish wedding party on their way to the wedding. And because the bride would be the one to bear future generations, she would be ripped out of the carriage and murdered.
She would then be buried in her wedding gown."
Voila.

Anyways, I never knew Russia was anti-semetic. Now the movie sounds more interesting. ^_^

You'll have to see what happens though :D Or, you could also go and read the actual folktale.

It's not weird at all. Upto date, Tim Burton has worked with Johnny Depp in 5 of his films:
-Edward Scissor Hands
-The Corpse Bride
-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
-Ed Wood
-Sleepy Hollow
