Yes, an MMORPG. Unlike so many other crappy MMO's, Guild Wars is for the casual gamer, unlike WoW, which could be considered "hardcore" in terms of effort. Guild Wars is designed to present a fun atmosphere for both hardcore and casual MMO-er (like me) alike. It's quest-based, so there really isn't any boring level grinding, you get ns exp from both killing the monsters along the way in whatever quest you’re doing, and for completing the quest itself. Missions net you a cool 1,000 exp (2,000 if you do the bonus).

Max level is 20, there are 6 job classes to choose from, and every character gets a primary and secondary job class. Each class has it's own unique set of skills (nothing new here, obviously), but the customization is enormous. Each class has over 150 skills, which means on any given character you can have 300 skills to work with to refine your build.

You can also create a PVP character right off the bat, which will be at level 20, and ready to compete against other players in an arena. You are limited to using only skills you have already unlocked in game, though. =)

Very fun, very addicting, not so very time-consuming as other MMO's can be. Come, join me. Once you pay the original 50 dollars to purchase the game its free online, unlike World of Warcraft. Ive thought about getting it, but im holding out on Maple Story until F.E.AR. Comes out, that game looks freaking sick.

I think that GW are not worth buying. They become boring once you finish the story line, but it is nice that you don't have to pay the monthly fee.

GW is a great game. And as for Pricey? try www.play.com and you can get it for about £13.99 (umm..$27?) and you don't have to pay an online fee, and there isn't an option of paying to get a 'superior' account. The PvE is very enjoyable, and the computer allies have excellent AI, but there is also areas for PvP and 'GvG' which is Guild vs Guild. Guilds are like clubs, each with their own personalised name, cape and (if you're rich enough) Guild Hall.

Oh, and about the price, there are 2 different packages you can buy, the basic game (£13.99) or the specail pack (about £30) which includes a music and artwork CD, and a teamspeak set (allows you to talk in real time to others who have it)

I thought I should pitch in here to clear up some things:

First off, I have had Guild Wars since about middle of July, and I love it. After you pay the <$50 (you can usually find it for between $25-40), you never have to pay for anything else (no monthly fees like other MMO games). The way they make money is by everyone buying the expansion packs every 6-8 months.

Anyhow, someone mentioned that after you finish the storyline it is boring. There are actually two modes of play: RPG (storyline) and Player vs Player (PvP). The RPG mode is my favorite, and it takes well over 50 hours to complete, and is a hell of a good time. PvP mode is also a blast, and because of certain GW mechanics, it is always changing and never gets old. Whenever I get tired of playing the story, I do some PvP and that always reenergizes me.

If you can find it for a reasonable price, I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a decent amount of free time. But beware, because like Maple Story and other games of this type, it can become highly addictive. Also, if you do buy it, please play for more than a few hours before judging it, because the beginning area is just really a tutorial, and the real fun begins about 5-10 hours in.

I forced myself to stop playing MMORPGs for certain reasons. One being that the majority of MMO Games I played was largely just lvl crunching. Another being that the quests could usually be completed so easily by simply buying the required items needed to complete it from other players. Also, many of the other players are usually all jerks to begin with. =/

I've heard alot of good things about Guild Wars. If the game actually has a point to it as Max suggests, I'd certainly buy and play it if I actually get enough free time. (being 24 hours of free time that I'd only get in the summer :lol:)

Guild Wars gets around "level crunching," also called "grinding" by others, by having a Level 20 cap, which forces an emphasis on skill and strategy instead of simply levels and brute power. Besides the main story missions, there are hundreds of smaller quests (some quests are actually quite involving) which are usually not too hard, some of which are just outright easy (go talk to someone in a city). The quests add alot of playing time, and most give you new skills (spells) as a reward in addition to experience and sometimes items.

I like the concept of the game's pricing, as you only pay for the game once and it's free afterwards. My problem is that this game doesn't feel that deep, the stats system isn't that serious and worse of all I dislike playing RPG's that focus too much on the midieval theme.

3 of my clan members play and praise this game but overal I'd say if you want a light MMORPG then this is a nice choice.

That's what attracted it to me initally. It's a light MMO. I don't have all the time or patience in the world to spend 11 hours a day leveling or whatnot. This game is fun, fast-paced, and involved. Yay! :D

R/Mo20 means I have a character with primary profession Ranger and secondary profession Monk at level 20.

Likewise, E/Mo20 is Elementalist/Monk (Level 20) and Mo/Me is Monk/Mesmer.

I finally decided to buy this the other day, and I really should of bought it a long time ago. Im a lv 3 Ranger/Necro (R/N3) at the moment, just pottering around the beginning of the game learning its mechanics and what not. One thing this game has in its favour is its fast learning curve. But I can't figure out what "Frost Artifacts, Flame Artifacts" etc are for though.

I really dislike Guild Wars, I think it's another one of those MMORPG's that people are only interest in for the fact that it has no monthly charges. This game is only any good in PvP and the irony is the fact that I hate PvP in RPG's with a passion, this game is no exception.

Whoo Hoo! Yeah, just noticed this topic. I have this game. (Well, actually my brother shares it with me) It was worth the buy. I really enjoy it. Plus unlike those crazy games where you lvl like crazy and it takes forever there is a max lvl of 20 in this game. You get skills and can change your secondary profession. You use some strategy in this and the sory isn't all that bad. The fighting is fun and quest, missions and getting new items will keep you busy. Plus fighting enemies as a group or by yourself. Or fighting other online players. It's a fun game. Plus they now have GW factions and soon Nightfall will come, which they have anounced.

I love Oblivion, it's one of the best released titles of recent time and it's also the best 360 game with G.R.A.W coming right after it. But Oblivion is not an MMORPG and is not PvP.

This game is all about pvp which is excellent. WoW is lacking in pvp... especially since Blizzard screwed up with their item scaling on PvE rewards...

That said, Warhammer Online (is that the name?) looks like it will crush both these games in terms of pvp. If it turns out well I might play that game instead :P.

I play Guild Wars. ^^ Have been playing since May 2005. I have Factions aswell, and my main character is a level 20 E/ with 4.4 million exp, and every single 15k armour set (including FoW), except Kurzick x.x.

I've finished every single mission in the game (both Tyiran and Canthan), and explored 100% of Tyria (hence getting Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer & Protector of Tyria titles), and if anyone needs some help, don't hesitate to pm me ^^.

Just gotta save up some money to buy Nightfall. >_X

I bought both. I was debating about getting the CE edition of Nightfall, but decided aginst it, and bought the regular version and the PvP edition with ther money I saved.

For £20, would you rather have some sh*te minipet and a print out map, or all the skills unlocked and an extra character slot?

I'd try but after I bought Factions, we moved and now my laptop has crappy connection. *worlds smallest violin plz*

Anyway, I made an Assassin, did the first few childish tasks and then got totally pissed that it takes like an hour to load each map. *sigh*
Im thinking of having a Ranger as my secondary. Somehow, a high critical rate and long range sounds like good fun.

My friend uses a warrior/ranger, and I believe he gets a long just fine that way. I'm pretty sure you're ABLE to use a bow, but if it's just your secondary, dunno if you'd want to.

I'm one of those people who likes to think up new and random builds to play in RA, some of which are quite effective. I have a really good Assassin/Mesmer build that can deal a lot of spike damage and conditions quickly and safely.

I think the Maple Story fanboys should migrate to this game. You only have to pay once, and it's infinitively better than... that game... and this coming from somebody who had played the game for almost a whole year.

I'm selling Purple dyes, too. It's not worth the 10 gold that I get from trying to sell to the dye trader.

The Price is the best thing, and the fact that you can be competitive in PvP without grinding for months. When making a PvP character, you automaticallly start at the highest level with Max weapons etc.
