Discuss.
EDIT: I just heard about it now.
Hurricane Rita.
EDIT2: And it's not Florida, but a big chunk of Texas and a couple of states north, northeast, and east of it.

Now there are these as well. It's really bad. I wonder what is going to happen this time.
It can't be as bad as Katrina. Then again if it is George Bush might move a bit quicker this time around.

I half-agree and disagree with you. Surely do I believe that he would actually speed up the recovery process, but another part of me believes that he wouldn't do anything. He's kinda like the Herbert Hoover of the 2000's.

There was also hurricane Ophelia, but it was weak. Why do hurricanes have names anyway.
Hurricane Katrina is gonna be a retired name.(I got all my info from wiki)

Don't forget Tropical Storms Phillipe and Kenneth, which may become hurricanes, but they aren't coming this way.

Yep. I heard that just not. It's risen to a level 5 hurricane and is heading up to Texas. Hope your safe Izar. They better started evacuating people closer to the coast.

Houston does get a direct hit., unless it shoots to the west. It's really close to Galveston, which gets a direct hit. Bad thing is, in 1901, Galveston had a hurricane that took out the entire city just about.

I think they are concentrating on the island because they assume it will do major damage there after what happened in 1900.

Back to the main issue, has hurricane rita slowed to a category 4 or is it still a 5?

Pppphh, there's nothing else to be proud about here. We are in the middle of nowhere!
Anyhoo, it is still a 5 as far as I know, they say it will lower to a 4 by the time it hits Houston.

wtf are you talking about? They're evacuating virtually all of Houston - almost a million in fact, and the roads are PACKED. It is at a stand still, no one can get any gas because refineries have shut down, not to mention that there have been people driving since morning, for 19 hours, and have only gone 20 miles. It seems the authorities are friggin' STUPID, and can't understand the concept of opening another three lanes of highway on the southbound side.
:P
I'll probably get some weather up where I am (North Texas), but at worst, some thunderstorms. There is a chance for tornadoes though . . .

Texas = No Rain.
The US gets a fair amount of rain, but it hardly ever rains here.
And they are talking about Galveston because galveston island will be almost compeltely submerged underwater.
And andross, they have opened EVERY way to go. And things like that aren't always simple anyways.
Houston are gets 18 inches of rain AT LEAST. We get 4-8 inches.
JUST IN - The hurrican has gone back down to a catagory 4... or was it 3? Bah, it was more powerful than Katrina, but it's now dropped in strength, which is good news.
Bring on the Pringles. :P

It took them 24 hours to do it, because when I checked last at 4pm, there was still crazy backup on the highway. One person was calling in, saying they left at 6am, and only traveled 20 miles in 19 hours. Please, simple like that? I can understand 8 hours to get the whole area open, but 24? They knew the evacuation was coming, so it certainly could be faster.

There was a picture in the paper of a road leading out of Houston and it was packed. I was wondering if people would be able to get out if the roads were so jammed.

also heard that there is a possibility it may not hit Houston, as
it went of course a tiny bit. It is still a category 4 (just like Katrina)

I evacuated from New Orleans to Houston cuz of Hurricane Katrina
And now Hurricane Rita is coming toward Texas Gulf Coast! Traffic is so bad getting out that my parents almost ran out of gas. We had to turn home. Now I have to ride out this monster hurricane D:
UPDATE: Rita's down to a Category 3...but still a VERY Dangerous hurricane. However, it could be either a 3 or even 2 hurricane at land fall, which is not nearly as bad as a monster 5 like it was earlier

Torrential rain? I must have been asleep when it happened because we haven't had much rain. In fact the only rain we have had recently was yesterday and there wasn't much more than usual. Was there a lot in another part of England or something?

"IT'S TOO DAMAGING TO OUR ECONOMY!!!"
What's happening now? The weather pattern is changing like "WTF" and you try to pray now? YOU REEP WHAT YOU SOW!!!
The American government needs to reliase that trying to maintain their hyperpower comes at a great cost, and frankly their hyperpower will be removed because of their ignorance, how could those which are born with such given-talents be so ignorant after all they are nerds, they excelled at their field!
That's what screwing up your weather system.

Don't say things like "Britian sucks!" and "USA sucks!" because that sounds like you're challenging even the citizens of said country. Say "The US Government sucks!". But maybe you were trying to challenge the citizens? o.o
You're also forgetting you wouldn't have half the neat little things you do now if it wasn't for well-developed countries. :D

Um, first, you aren't a meteorologist, so you really have no credibility for making such a claim. Second, Hurricane Season is not over. It ends in November. And usually, the US will see 3-6 hurricanes a season.

Its a real name. The names of the Hurricanes now (katrina, rita, ophelia) were names
that weren't used in 1999 so they carried over into this year. Phillipe is a tropical storm
(I think) maybe it ended, I don't know.

I just looked it up and found this...
Tropical Storm Phillipe was upgraded to a hurricane, but was really week, and
dissolved about last week
Then there were also weak hurricanes like Irene and Emily, and Ophelia (it was stronger than
the other 2)
