Just curious. Which media players do you think are the best?

I recently discovered two: one called VLC, and the other called BS Player (don't let the name fool you, though =/).

In terms of capability, VLC is definitely the one. Many options and tools to use, a wide variety of usable file types (including OGG/OGM files). BS Player, however, is my favorite in terms of appearance/accessibility. It's simple, and has a sleek layout. Only problem is that it comes with mandatory AdWare that you have to install, removing the AdWare means the program can't be used.

Well, at any rate, which media players do you use, and which are the best in your opinion?

I'm not too interested in media players, for music I use Windows Media Player and movies Cyberlink. I can't really say it's the best since I never bothered using any other.

iTunes or WMP. I use iTunes for music and WMP for video, although iTunes can do both. I just like WMP better as a video player.

WMP for me. As long as I can hear the music and watch the video successfully, it's fine. I also use Windows Movie Maker a lot, so WMP comes in handy there.

I use Winamp because of computer restrictions, but I would definitely use iTunes if I could. It's a whole lot more smooth and easy to use.

Xine/VLC for videos, XMMS/Amarok for music.

Winamp was my main audio player for ages. I still use it for ogg vorbis files etc, and it's set as the media player to use if i play any media files from the file itself.

However, iTunes is the one I use now. I have most of my music there since that's where my iPod gets the track info etc from, and it's all in a huge convenient playlist.
It also runs in the background while I play games without much slowdown in either program. I always had problems doing that with winamp.

I've always used iTunes and always will. But for movies.. Well, I usually watch my movies on YouTube and junk. Places that have their own players.
                  But again.

                  iTunes FTW.

WMP for music, and Quicktime for everything else.

                      Windows Media Player.
It's just easy to use, is built in to Windows, lets me display the song currently playing on my MSN, manages the audio library well. I've heard Foobar is brilliant as well, but I couldn't get it working when I tried.

Win DVD whatever the number is for video. You get no border or tool panels and has hotkeys so you can pause without the annoying bars which get in the way.
As for music, itunes. Bit annoying when i want to send something to somebody and its in mp4 format. I know how to counter it though.

My god, I can't believe I've lived all this time without iTunes! It completely blows RealPlayer away, in every sense of the word. The layout, the compatibility, the overall feel...

                          I've certainly been missing out.

Yup, you sure have. iTunes is up there next to WinAmp and WMP. For music anyway. WMP is my personal best for videos. Realplayer if they don't work on WMP.

Yeah, i prefer legal any day. My brother got sent this letter ( as a joke) and it said he had to pay a fine for using Kazaa ( which the people who sent it didnt konw he'd been using it) and the fine was around £20000 ( the real fine, i dont know) He almost killed the people who sent it. Since then i have always used itunes. If not on itunes, i'll buy the CD

I usually open anything that Winamp can't handle anyways, so I perfer winamp.

But iTunes isn't bad either, could be borthersome at times.

Itunes can be annoying. ( annoying being a major understatement)
I'm not quite sure why, but it wont let me buy music anymore >_< It's not my account, i've emailed apple about the problem- no response.

Well, i'll re-install it. All the songs are on my ipod. I can load them back on from there.

Creative Media source is alright. I used to watch the Anime I downloaded on it. Good sound quality, but you cant get it full screen with no toolbars or anything, which you can with WinDvd, but tahts for DVDs.

iTunes takes forever to start up I'll admit that, but hey, it's the only way to upload songs on iPods. =p You gotta give it some credit.

Can you listen to illegal music on iTunes? I'm interested to know because I'd like to use iTunes as my primary player when we get our new computer tomorrow.

Yeah, you can upload most music to itunes, bought from there or not. I have the anime music I downloaded on there.

I don't use iTunes for downloading songs, nor do I use it for iPods (considering I don't have one). I just use it as a regular media player, and it gets the job done for me.

We hooked up our new computer, and for Last.fm and MSN, I use WMP, but I keep my 'complete' music library under iTunes.

VLC is always a brilliant player, so i'd have to go for that

Okay, now iTunes is my only player. Having everything at my fingertips is really convenient. I just hope another computer is far away, because importing all my music twice would just be a shame
