Anyone following on Euro 2008? It's being hosted by Austria/Switzerland, and qualifying matches are currently taking place.

France 3, Italy 1 anyone?

Request: On a side note, does anyone know a website where I can watch broadcasts of the match, either live or recorded? I'd greatly appreciate it, because I'd really like to watch the matches myself. Thanks.

Ah Euro 2008. The tournament that I'm not that interested in.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if England won it, but it's unlikely to happen. Still they're winning their qualifying matches but they're not against any big sides at the moment.
Surely you guys must know about Germany 13-0 San Marino? Why do they even bother having these tiny countries who have no hope of beating the giants?

That's the way it is in College Basketball too, Me111. These huge schools come into these rural communities and crush the other teams. It's not fair, but it's just something the schedule has to do. I guess it's to prove that little schools/teams won't go anywhere in the country.

On another note, couldn't we just have talked about this in the Football topic in the Off-Topic forum?

Perhaps this should be in the Off-Topic forum, but there's no need to discuss things solely in official topics. I figured having a topic dedicated solely to a single event/idea gets more attention. But ah well.

Well I suppose you did the second-best thing. And you're right, official topics does muddle things a bit.

Well, tell me about some England results because I won't get any scores on the news here in Canada.

So far this is the results for England:
              England 5 Andorra 0
              England 1 Maccedonia 0
Not terribly difficult so far, though Maccedonia are a good side.
One solution to the big country - small country bedate was that all of the smaller countries played against each other first before they played the big sides. Good idea or not?

Not really. They would just end up playing them anyway. It's not like beating the fellow small countries will give them enough experience to get close to beating Germany or England.

Well that is true but with less mini teams there, the larger countries get more of a chance at a proper match.

That should wait for the end, when the good teams are supposed to play each other. I assume there is a playoff and an eventual champion?

Yeah. The set up is fairly similar to the World Cup.
I'm not that excited about the whole thing though. In my opinion club football is where the action is. I'm glad to see country against country but I'd rather watch a club match.

Unless it's the World Cup. I really don't care. In four years when the World Cup comes around again, I'll be watching. Until then, basketball's on the agenda, not football.

Urgh. Sorry SoT but you're really wrong. The World Cup isn't the same tournament that it used to be. This World Cup wasn't good at all. Apart from a few brilliant moments, no team played amazingly well, (yes even Italy though they did pretty well). However some club matches have shown great clashes in recent years. Local derbies are one very good example. Last season's FA Cup final was a lot better than the World Cup final. I know it's a lot more difficult to watch in a different country but I strongly suggest that you do.

But see, when the FA Cup comes around, there's NBA and NHL playoffs going on, so it's very hard to find a sports station that will carry football.

I guess that would be difficult. Well I'm sure you could find some way around it, though I'm afraid I can't really help.
Anyways back to the topic at hand. Do you think that the refs will have learnt from the World Cup and will stop the divers? Or do you think it will still be a problem? I think it will be. It's been growing in the premiership with the amount of foreigners who play and I don't think it'll slow in Euro 2008.
