I thought of something whilst I played Zelda. Why does cutting grass get you items and money? It makes no sense! Does someone spend hours placing it there or something?
This topic is for any other weird things that you notice in games by the way. I'm not just rambling about something weird (for once  ).

Well, people lose money in bushes. I guess that's the money you're finding.

In real life it's the same. That's why metal detections came into existence ^^

But with every single bush? I mean, that's just weird.
And it's not just money. It's bombs and arrows as well. I think someone's pockets are very loose.

Where else would you get items though? in most RPGs you get them by killing enemies, but there aren't really enough enemies in Zelda, and avoiding them is often a important part of the game.

Yeah, there are other things too, like finding bread underneath a barrel in Golden Sun. Shouldn't the bread be in the pantry?

Why do enemy soldiers always seem to position themselves right next to explosive barrels? Do they not realise the danger?

Well people lose things in tall grass and bushes all the time, and they needed some way for you to replenish your stock of items so cutting up grass and bushes was a good way to do this .

Haha, I have to agree with you on that one, good point. Either that or the control tower/building/whatever is surrounded with explosives or oil barrels or something.

There would be no end to strange things from games. How is it possible that a man can only walk a only certain number of squares in Fire Emblem, and why does the enemy attack only after you do? While we're at it, what ARE those squares anyway? These kinds of things are found in every game, there is no getting around weird stuff when making a video game.

Why do DK and Diddy wear clothes? That's another thing that just doesn't make sense... @_@ I mean, they're monkeys for heaven's sake!

And why do they go on quests to help eachother. Surely Diddy, if he was a real animal, would be happy to see DK go. More bananas for him! Plus! With DK gone who do you think Candy will want to hang out with

And why would lizards go around on ships stealing bananas anyway

The Fire Emblem sqaure/attack first issue isn't really a "weird" thing though, thats exactly how turn based strategy games work, the whole genre is like that; its not meant to be realistic. That'd be like saying about Tetris "Omg blocks falling from t3h sky wtffff", but thats just how the game is designed, there is no need for an explanation, as all puzzle games just work like that. Although I have to admit it gets a bit weird when they add stories into puzzle games. "Oh noes a baddy lets defeat him by lining up rows of coloured blocks!" etc.

The enemy standing next to barrels thing is weird because if the game is trying to be realistic, then if you think about it, you wouldn't stand right next to a potential bomb.

Another thing I've wondered is why the backpack system is so stupid in RPG games. I mean, why does this single leaf of a herb that I could stuff in my pocket take up the same amount of space as a thumping great war hammer or chestpiece of armor?

Anyone notice that if you attack the same Cucco continuosly you'll soon gain control of it. Talk about abuse. This is a questionable game for kids who are growing up in troubed households.

It's just crazy. If you've ever played Medal of Honour  :Rising Sun, you may wonder why the Japanese wait until you've got to the machine gun before they all run and try to shoot you!

Yeah, I know that, but we're talking about unrealistic and potentially weird stuff in games, right? And even though I love the way FE works, having people walk only a certain number of squares in a turn during war isn't all that realistic, is it?

If Alakazam are so much smarter than humans why don't they make some giant machines of destruction and wipe people off the face of the Earth? Why are they content with living in small balls. That didn't sound right...

In Diablo 2, an online game kinda like runescape but its way better without all the ghay ass fishing ect, the backpack system is very good. Its split into 400 or so small squares and a herb would take up like 4, where a suit of armour would take up 100 or so.

Diable 2 is so crap. I played it for about two weeks and got extremely bored. There are some much better RPGs out there.

Ever wondered why in super smash bros melee, crates, barrels and itens just drop from the sky or just randomly appear? More confusing is when say, a beam sword drops into the DK jungle, or into Hyrule castle.

How can Link and Young Link be on at the same time? Surely that's some sort of time paradox or something!

Ocarina Of Time - How can Link defeat Ganondorf as an adult (in the future) and then go back in time 7 years to find that cos future ganondorf died, past ganondorf did too... If that was how life worked surely everyone in the game should be dead as they'll end up dying in the future ._.

In Minish Cap, the game explains the random items in the pots and grass. The Minish put them there to make humans happy. Take that, people!

Minish are weird. Whay would they want to make us happy? Especially since their like smurfs, and everyone hates smurfs. They're smurfin' annoying!

And about the whole monkeys wearing clothes thing. If real monkeys can be working in an office wearing suits in a commercial, why can't fake monkeys wear clothes too? Besides, I'm not sure about you, but I'm not fond of monkey porn.....

Now as for pokemon, if most of them are so smart (i.e. Pikachu, Alakazam, etc.) whay the hell are they content with being used as tools for cheap labor, or as weapons in battle? Why don't they all just rise up and wipe out the human race? AND WHY THE HECK IS ASH SO FRIKIN' SPECIAL? I mean, in the series he's like a god! He saves the world and stuff! And most of the time it's his abused yellow squirrel mouse that does all the work!

Why do barrels fall from the sky in SSBM? Why don't they hurt when they land on top of you (not including being thrown)? Why aren't you cut in half when sliced by a sword? Since when did the laws of physics and biology say that you can block a beam of energy with your arm? HOW THE HECK CAN A FOX AND A BIRD BE TALKING AND BEATING PEOPLE UP?!? Why didn't they include the easter bunny in SSBM?

How can a boat be talking to a blond elf that's two feet tall? What the hell is a rupee? Why does link always save the world? Why doesn't he just become Gannon's ass slave? Who would even wnat to be Gannon's ass slave? Why is Gannon bent on ruleing the world? Was he abused as a child? Why doesn't Inuyasha pop out of nowhere and open a can of whoop ass on him?

Why does Mario wear overalls when golfing? Or playing tennis? Or killing bowser? Doesn't he know they went out of style a long time ago? What does peach see in him anyway? What would happen if Mario accidentally ended up in Vice City? Why do coins pop out of animated mushrooms and flying turtles? How can turtles even be flying? How can mushrooms even be alive? Why isn't Luigi in any of the Mario adventure games (excluding SM64:DS)? Where does Mario live? Why arent there any bathrooms in princess peaches castle? Come to think of it, why aren't there bathrooms in any videogame?

Why does the enemy attack only after you've attacked him in Fire Emblem? Why don't they just screw the grid and walk around where they want to? Why can't they all just be friends and not cause wars that kill everybody? Who is the Black Knight? What's his problem anyway? How can there be people who can change into animals? Why didn't they include vikings? Why was the game named Fire Emblem? Why didn't they include the wheat sword in FE?

How come I ask so many questions? Because I can. And I have to much time on my hands.

You see, there are, and always will be so many questions about videogames that may never be answered. Most of them may never even make sense. But does anyone care why they seem so retarded? Obviously not, or we wouldn't be playing them.

In War Strategy games (WarCraft, Advance Wars, etc.), hundreds upon thousands of your men can die through the course of the campaign, yet at practically any given time you can train more able-bodied men right on the battlefield to fight for you.

You would think that your faction would eventually run out of men to "draft". :)

                                                    1. It's a Turn-based Strategy RPG, not an RTS
                                                    2. Same as above.
                                                    3. People fight for the stupidest reasons. Yes, blue shiny medallions count. I bet one of them Torino Winter Olympics "CD's" are worth more, for crying out loud.
                                                    4. A chunk of data in a video game programmed to use Luna exactly when you don't want him to.
                                                    5. He just thinks the armour makes him look tough.
                                                    6. Tellius, Elibe, Magvel, Jugdral, and Akaneia all are not set in the world we know and love (sort of).
                                                    7. Any Vikings that tried to make it to the FE dimension fell of their flat earth.
                                                    8. The Fire Emblem was Marth's shield he could use to kill some dragon in FE 1, 2 & 3. It was mentioned as a royal crest in 4 and 5. In 6 and 7 it was the Royal Seal of Bern. In FE 8 it was the Sacred Stone containing Formortiis, Demon King. In FE 9 and 10, it's the Lehran's Medallion.
                                                    9. 'Cause the citizens, being at a lack of movement graphics, are restricted to walking in four compass directions, talking, and blinking. They cannot plant wheat to make the wheat sword.

True, o so truly true.....But just because it's a turn based strategy RPG, doesn't mean they can't screw the grid and walk around like they want to, antagonizing their enemies who are condemed to a life of square movement. Besides, if it's a strategy game, there has to be smart people. And where there smart people, there's people who know how to screw a grid and walk around any way they please, which in this case turns out to be grid style. See what I'm getting at? And seriously, why doesn't inuyasha open a can o' whoop-ass on gannon? I mean, gannon is demon posessed or something, right? And for all we know, the power of the triforce could stem from some ghay jewel shard that's worth about 2 cents.

Haha, it would be quite funny for a while. But then the novelty would wear off and I would be just about to kill myself when my turn stops and i'm left waiting

....in the middle of the street with a car barreling towards you. And the worst part? Your turn's over and your frozen in place! Yeah, grid style movement in real life would be frikkin' AWESOME. [/sarcasm]

And as for the whole Inuyasha can 'o whoop-ass thingy. Does anyone else think the triforce thingamabob could stem from a chep plastic toy found at the dollar store?

It'd really suck waiting for six billion other people to have their turns.
