Fuck PM, get an R4i card. Can play rips of DS games as long asy ou download them in .nds format and I'm not sure about the GBA emulating but I'm sure it does. I have one and it works beautifully for DS rips.

Edit: Quick google revealed that R4i cards do run GBA rips. Go for it.

Managed to beat Red Dead Redemption last night. Very enjoyable game, spent the best part of three months playing it. My only complaint would be that it drags during the middle section of the game in Mexico, but an enjoyable experience otherwise.

Yeah Mexico did drag in places. I tried to enjoy it but there were just so many on rails shooting bits, which are fun for the first few missions but after then it gets old. Go to A. Collect B. Return to C with B driving, whilst you shoot. And it took ages to get the story going as well in Mexico.

But yeah, the bit towards the end was really good. Great development and actual fun missions (stealth ftw)

Last game I completed is probably Red Dead Redemption, like a month ago. Could have done it earlier, but got bored during the Mexico part so didn't play for some time. Once I was out of mexico the fun started again, and the rest of the game was awesome. Only problem I have is that I have to play with his douchebag son now. God I hate him. Gimme fucking John back.

360, sorry. D; Yeah, I only have one person on my friends list who even plays it. Probably the best thing to do is go to DustLoop and find some players there, since you're guaranteed to find at least some solid players.

Dark Void. This game had so much potential but failed to act on it. It made a huge deal out of the vertical cover system and used it about 3 times in game. Very short and the story comes to an abrupt end (instead of actually finishing it the main character 'escapes' but I guess it was planned to have a sequel). It's a shame because it could have been so much but it just ended up being a reasonable third person shooter/flight sim. An interesting combination but little came of it. If a sequel is made, I hope it's better than the first.

Just finished Knights of the Old Republic. Was a thoroughly enjoyable game with only a few real faults: it's nigh impossible to efficiently control your party's positioning on the battlefield (as opposed to, say, Dragon Age) which is important if you want to do things like rain down grenades on the enemy without hitting your own guys, or do crowd control with lots of enemies and you want to keep a more delicate party member away from harm. There were instances where I felt that there weren't enough dialogue options (or that all the dialogue options were weak) and some aspects of the interface were obviously designed for consoles, inventory in particular. Also: Carth Onasi.

Other than those things the game was brilliant. It's actually the first Bioware game I've played to completion. I've played Neverwinter Nights and it's expansions, all fun but didn't hold my interest. And Dragon Age is... Dragon Age. Next up, either Dark Dawn or Mass Effect.

I get the feeling I probably would've liked Mass Effect more if it were my first Bioware game. Mixed feelings but I did like it, if I were to give it a rating I probably would give it a 3/5. I talked about this a little in TRT, but a big problem that I had while playing is that the plot structure in Bioware games are starting to feel too familiar, making Mass Effect feel stale to me even though it was my first time playing it. Most of the side quests were really mundane, combat was too easy even when I bumped the difficulty up to Veteran, (and this is coming from a guy who plays most games on the default setting) and the main quest was a bit short.

But I really liked the dialogue system, and I liked how morality used a system of points to each side rather than a scale between good and evil like NWN and KOTOR did. This makes more sense, in reality doing a good thing won't cause people to just forget an evil thing you did, and vice versa. And despite combat being too easy, it was a fun mix of third person shooting with some RPG style spell casting and character building.

I think I'm going to wait a week or so before starting up Mass Effect 2. Gonna be interesting to see what's so different to it that it got such universal praise when compared to ME1.

In terms of currently attempting to beat. Ys: The Oath in Felghana on nightmare mode. And EO3 which I dropped for GSDD due to the fact I had to restart due to me screwing up pretty badly.

Most people have dumped on it. I've been curious about the Fable series, Fable 1 is old and not on Steam, but Fable 3 is supposed to go on PC sometime soon I think but ehhh... kinda scared by the negative reception. What do you think?

Personally I'd find a copy of Fable II and give that a try. If you don't enjoy it, you probably won't like III because they are very similar.

I find it more atmospheric and creepy than the first game, but not as outright scary. The visions of Nicole with the fucked up eyes and mouth are pretty creepy, as are the projections of her on screens. However I agree with Yahtzee in that the game is trying too hard to be scary in places, and his comment about the vents is so hilariously true. I barely flinch when I get vent-ambushed by a necromorph because all I can think of is the completely sealed space behind the vent and think of Yahtzee and laugh.

I don't watch Yahtzee reviews so I don't know what he thought of it, but I'd agree it that most of the time it tries to be scary but doesn't quite reach it. When it goes beyond having a necromorph appear then rush you, it can make me jump but otherwise it loses its impact. The vent stuff was pretty pointless. I only remember getting attacked once in it, not really that scary.
I think the main problem is that the space station full of people being attacked just isn't as tense as the empty space ship of Dead Space 1. With it's (admittedly good) action set pieces, it almost reminds me of RE5.

Yeah, it's more of a tense game than a scary one. It's not psychological horror, it's only really quick jump out scares. Which admittedly work, but get stale eventually, despite mixing it up (opened a lift earlier, a place which i thought was a safe haven in-game to see a spitter necromorph standing there which made me jump quite a bit.)

But yeah, there's never 'proper' fear, it's always just anxiety of when something is about to jump out next. The only time I've been close to legit scared was when walking into one of the children's rooms with the spinning duck light, and I walked through, blinked and Nicole was there with her fucken horrible face and eyes. Other than that it's been somewhat standard.

If you're thinking about playing it: basically, you can play much worse games than Mafia II, but you could also play a lot better. It gets a resounding meh. Also, enemies can one-hit headshot you, at least on hard difficulty.

Dead Space 2

Thoroughly enjoyed this. The plot was a great continuation from the first, written very well. Gameplay hasn't changed very much but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Only complaint is about length. 8 hours on one playthrough, and that was me doing as much as is humanly possible to pad out the game. Without, I imagine the game would be about 6-7 hours long which isn't a fantastic length, but it was paced well throughout, it just came to somewhat of an abrupt stop. Great fun though.
