I'm planning on getting a 360 soon, but it will be a while as i'm skint at the moment. I want to know which games are worth buying for it. At the moment, i'm probably going to get Halo 3, Bioshock, but thats it.

Recommendations?

Well then, yeah, go for Halo 3 then! But that's an odd thing to say. Halo 3 and BioShock have the same age rating in America and I'm sure it's the same way in the UK. And BioShock honestly isn't THAT violent; shortly after you or a splicer bleeds, the bloodstain on the ground will fade away. If I were a parent I'd be more concerned about how creepy/disturbing the world is rather than how violent the game is.

But anywho, go for Halo 3.

And Slomz, I agree that the "Wii" could've been better named, but I think that it makes the console sound better than if it was named the "Revolution". I mean, the latter would've made it sound just like an oridnary gameing system. The Wii (although a bit....odd) on the other hand, sounds different.

The Playstation sounds generic, but it's not a bad name. It's a name that carries a legacy of repetitive sequels, and more sequels of those sequels. ;)

The Xbox is.....well let's just say it sounded cool when it was new.

Halo is a derivative and merely average shooter. It's not bad, but there are loads of shooters that do everything Halo does, and better. Crysis is a better shooter. COD4 is a better shooter. The original Halo was great, but each got a little worse.

I'll sum it up and say that I personally dislike Halo because there are better shooters out there that aren't getting enough love that I consider to be better games. But at least people are starting to realize this with the release of COD4.

Halo 1 was OK. Halo 2 was when the seeds of a ****ty game were planted. Halo 3 is a horrible game. The reason it's so popular is because most teenagers that have never played a lot of video games before see Halo, and say "I want to shoot that guy too!", and it goes on from there.

Yeah, the controls aren't great but I remind you that they are fully customizable. If you dont like the default layout, you can assign actions to whatever button you please.

Now, me and my friend stopped playing Halo regularly at his house a while ago, but I'm pretty sure Halo's controls are mapped the same as every other console shooter. You could probably map Halo pretty much the same way on the Sony controller.

Those really aren't very good excuses except for weapon balance, which is true. (COD4 did it better! =P)

There was only 1 other excuse, which is the story (and I dont care for that anyway). I play it for fun, not for extreme depth. Contrary to what I said earlier, Halo wouldn't be so popular if it was a bad game. Yes it has it's flaws, but it's not a terrible game.

As for hardware problems, make sure your fan works...also if you play for long amounts of time, it will over heat. I don't know how to avoid the RRoD...not even sure that M$ fixed it.

As for games, go with Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, The Orange Box, and maybe BioShock.

No, xbox live is the highlight of xbox 360, providing it's multiplayer games you buy. If you dont buy multiplayers, dont buy live because you'll waste your money.

RENT CREED. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Creed is definately not worth shelling out £30 on, but for a rent you cant go wrong. It's more fun than a barrel of flaming monkeys on crack, but there's no replay value whatsoever, but the single player mode is godly. Rent it, you wont be dissapointed.

Gears is only worth a rent as well. The online is just poor, the single player is pretty fun with mates but like creed, once you've done it once there's no reason to go back and do it again.

Bioshock is probably the best game you listed, but again, unfortunately it's a 1 trick pony like Gears and Creed. You'll complete it and never play it again. Worth a rent.

ORANGE BOX IS AN ESSENTIAL 360 PURCHASE. Having a 360 without Orange Box is like having a girl without tits. No need to explain, it's ****ing awesome.

You MIGHT like Crackdown, dont count on it though. Like the opposite of GTA, with superpowers. You're a supercop who can run really fast and jump 30 feet in the air, and you have to take down gangs. Goes pretty cheap on ebay and there's a demo as well.

Oblivion; not heard a single negative review about it but never tried it. Tom's played it though and says it's awesome though i'll leave that for you to decide.

You might like Enchanted arms also, it's kinda Fire Emblem style. Never tried it though so dont hold me to it.

RROD is the only hardware issue you have to worry about, and if you do get it, yes it's a pain in the arse cuz it renders your 360 unplayable, but you can send your 360 into M$ and you'll get a replacement in about a month.

Few tips; never move your 360 while it's turned on and has a disk in it because it will scratch the disk and make it unplayable.

Dont buy live over credit card because it's really, really difficult to unsubscribe. Always buy the cards.

Live Arcade is legendary; you can download movies, arcade games, game expansions, demos and more for quite cheap but uses a crappy point system instead of money so keep that in mind.

Brings me to another point; you might like some of the arcade games on offer ( CASTLEVANIA, B!TCH!).

Uh, make sure you get the Premium. Dont get Arcade because it has no harddrive and is crap. Dont get Elite because it's a waste; the only difference is the colour and harddrive space, but with the Premium you get 20GB which is enough anyway ( i havent even used half).

i love the musou games and neevr get bored of them, played the **** out of them all since Dynasty Warriors 3. i'm not going to try and defend the series, i'm really interested in the history and there's nothing like mashing square to murder 1000s of people to relieve stress

already had my fill of Creed at a friends, as fun as it is murdering the innocents and lepers, there is a fair amount of flaws in the core gameplay, and as you say little replay value

Bull****, that fact was made up by some PS3 fanboy or something. It's less than 10%. It's much more less of a problem now with falcon chips in pretty much all of the consoles ( anything made after august 07 has the falcon chip in it). So the risk is much less. You only hear stories from people who have had 360s from launch now, so you're quite safe.

I will break down my opinion of the various systems and why I think Xbox 360 is the best console to get right now. I have a Xbox 360, a Wii and I plan to get a PS3. I think each system has things which make it great.
If I have made an error anywhere, please feel free to correct me.


Xbox 360:

• Xbox Live is far superior to PSN and Wii online, although not free.
  • Xbox Live Arcade titles. Remakes and originals, in HD, some for free.
    • Xbox Originals - Halo 1, Banjo and Kazooie, etc
    
    
  • Demos. I have approx. 26 demos for various games I would never buy but don't mind playing now and then (DoA 4, Fight Night, etc)
    
  • Movies. You can buy movies in HD, directly to your console's HDD.
    
  • Friends List, with in-game chat, out-of-game chat, instant messaging, web cam chat, profiles.
  
  
• Achievements. Neat, although not really useful for anything other than bragging rights and goals to reach. Can sometimes be used as an indicator of how good someone is at a particular game.
  
• More games available, more exclusives, AFAIK.
  
• DVD player, optional HD DVD addon (although useless now)
  
• True HD experience

PS3:

• Free online.
  
• Built in wireless
  
• Blu Ray Player.
  
• True HD experience
  
• Some awesome exclusives.
  
• Awesome exclusive titles like Final Fantasy, MGS and Grand Turismo

Wii:

• Free online
  
• Built in Wireless
  
• The VC is awesome. Many old titles that I would love to play again.
  
• Awesome exclusives, much larger than that of the PS3 - Mario (Kart, Super, etc), Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, etc
  
• Cheaper initial price than the PS3 or Xbox 360, but lacks things like HD, DVD/Blu Ray. Controllers are expensive as heck.
  
• Innovative design with the Wii-mote and such. Fun system.

That basically sums it up. I am an avid online gamer, primarily playing FPS, so Xbox 360 was the way to go for me.

I like how everbody jumps straight to the mainstream titles without even acknowledging the lesser known ones, like Laharl mentioned.

If i'm going to be totally honest, 360 has the best game selection out there right now. Even if you dont like the games, you can still appreciate that they are good titles. The PS3 atm is just 360 ports. The Wii is just S.H.I.T. and 360 has some really good solid titles; Mass Effect, Halo (Laharl will disagree purely because its popular :B ), Crackdown, Lost Planet. You may think i'm being honest, but can you honestly name a good PS3 exclusive thats out at the moment?

And with the Wii, there is only crappy film games or a miserable brand-identity effort created to suck up money, or just an excuse to wave your arms about. The only Wii title i've been genuinely impressed with is Twilight Princess. The rest of them are pretty weak IMO.

I enjoy my Wii and my PS3 very much, and even if there aren't THAT many exclusives worth buying, there are alot on the horizen. Plus, my PS2 died last year, so I can once again play all my old games.

I just feel no need to buy a 360. Alot of their exclusives are shooters, most of which are no different from any shooter, ever.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Plus, you can send stages to your friends and you can upload/download them from/onto your SD card from various sites (like IGN).

Smash 64 is a boring game by comparison. The battles feel choppy, and the story mode isn't much to brag about either.

The stage creator in Brawl was great, what are you talking about. I've made stages that me and my friend like more than the normal stages.

I wouldn't mind if they had more parts though, they only seemed to touch on the bare essential parts.

At least part of this is attributable to the emphasis that is now put on console performance. The graphics hold too much influence over a games worth. I would rather have a graphically inferior game that was awesome play-wise than one the other way around.

But its true, game companies do seem to be giving in to money (Rareware, take note). There's so much potential in the games industry yet, but so little effort to achieve anything.

Saw the gameplay video today on Inside Xbox and it looks ****ing pimp! You get to create your own vehicles, and it's looking just like the first 2; awesome. Nothing out there is like Banjo. Seriously. Not even Mario; they're both platformers. The similarities end there. I'm so psyched for Banjo.

He has a point actually. In the 2 or 3 months that I had a 360 (I bought it specifically for Perfect Dark and Kameo) I was pretty disappointed with Rare's new found lack of effort. It's not a case of which is better, gamecube or Wii, but which is better compared to others on the market. IMO, when I got the gamecube years back I thought it was better than the xbox and PS2.
