At your service from the land of the chill
If I can't warm you baby nobody will
A genuine Canadian man
Strong and free
That's the true north
And baby that's me
I'll salute you as long as need be
Your genuine Canadian man
Well it's hush hush while I mush mush
My dog sled made for two
It's cold outside
But ooh what a ride
To the warmth of my igloo
Warm and dry
We'll be sipping on cola and rye
Then I'll bake you an eskimo pie
Your genuine Canadian man
Well we'll ride and glide over the great divide
On my 95 skidoo
Sweet honey child it's the call of the wild
When I'm callin' you oooo ooooo
Canadian man
That's me the ice breaker supreme
Forget your American dream
And wake up to Canadian man
And wake up to Canadian man
And wake up to Canadian man

The friendly people, really? Where do you hide them? The majority of people in Vancouver were weird to a 'hello' and were mostly friendly and smiley... If you were giving them business. =\ Makes me wonder if all urban places are like this...

And the people weren't mean or anything... Just wouldn't call the people I met friendly as a whole. Sure, they'd smile if you were giving them business, but the people on the streets were cold and afraid to return a nod, or anything. It was a cold environment. (No joke intended- It snowed, it was great! :joy:)

Richmond is our equiv to China Town, now adays. But downtown is generally a cold environment. I'm personally about 5 minutes from Kits, but I don't really go out around there. If you walk around my neighborhood, though, everyone is smiles and nods, even if they don't know you, or you them.
Besides, failing to nod to a stranger on the sidewalk is not the exactly what I'd say is unfriendly.

Ahaha, it's not so much that. Just as a whole. Possibly the friendliest person I'd met downtown was when I was walking down Davie St. and someone had a ****er spaniel I'd seen the day before, and she'd remembered, too. She and her dog were waiting for her boyfriend outside of a store, and we chatted, a little bit... Basically mentioning, 'Oh, I'm from Florida.' And then not much later, he boyfriend came out and gave my friend and I a look like, 'Wtf are you talking to my girlfriend for? We don't know you...'
Among other instances. It seems like in their minds, 'hello' leads to begging, and there's no reason to break your schedule in whatever you could be walking to to return a nod, a smile, a hello... Anything. I can't explain superwell, it just seemed cold.
Though I'm glad to hear the above! Maybe this is my perception because I come from a place where people just driving by wave to strangers, etc. When my parents from New York moved here and people started smiling, nodding and saying hello to them, they got nervous. 'Am I supposed to know this person?' That, or they were scared by it.
That is really, really sad. My parents have adjusted and enjoy it, but it's the mindset that they used to hold that seems to be the norm in the city.
I only spent like, one night in Richmond. I was in a hotel overlooking a 'Rona', and it snowed. (I was so happy.) The people there, at least in that hotel... I don't know. Aside from the hotel clerks, no one really spoke English, or wanted to, or... something. ._.;; (But I'm fairly sure they were just foreign guests.) I walked around in Kits, and I went into 2 stores and I hit the beach... In the freezing cold. XD But it was great. Those stores were a thrift furniture/clothing/etc. store, the other a renaissance costuming store (oh joy~:joy:) Both were run by women, and they were friendly enough... But I was giving them business. I like to think that the people out in Kits are friendlier than downtown. I like to think it's just downtown. XD;
