How exactly is Sony doing it "better" anyway? We haven't really seen what the Wii remote can do. As far as we know, Nintendo can sue Sony for ripping them off.
As they should, not like Sony really does anything for gaming except for getting profit off of an industry made so... profitable by Sega, Nintendo, and Atari in the first place. (the real gaming giants, in my opinion)

It was just a joke... Anyway, by tomorrow we'd get some pictures to really see whether they copied Nintendo or not. I'm sure Sony did enough thinking whether or not they can be sued by Nintendo or not...
Anyway, time will tell. This press conference wasn't that interesting, but atleast the price was revealed as well as the launch date. I'm waiting for pictures on the online service as well as more information. The pictures aren't loading on my PC from gamespot. Now come on, waiting for the Wii (I can care less about the 360 )

But my opinion on Sony (AND it's the same for Microsoft too) still stands.
Mark my words though, somehow, Sony's trying to get back at Nintendo; SOMEHOW! Why else would they retract the "boomerang" controller when Nintendo released the Wii controller?!!?!
*foams at mouth* *fart*
And I agree. Screw the Xbox 360.
#26
Posted 08 May 2006 - 08:46 PM
Stole the Xbox Live service
Stole the Wii-mote
Stole the 360 Guide button
Stole the Wii retro download service
Stole the Augmented reality from whoever the heck those guys were with the videos on the internet
And somehow, got Youtube.
...quite a productive day for Sony. xD
I just hate how they still have the Dualshock, with more junk slapped on it.

It's shaped like a Batarang and can wipe up crime on screen by moving in six directions. That's quite a hero. I'll be willing to bet that Wii's movability will far surpass the Caped Crusader of a controller.

So, lacking and mediocore? Or the same price for diversity and quality?
EDIT: Then again, after seeing the trailer, I'd still like a PS3 for FFXIII.

The first batch of PS3 games won't have motion sensing functionality while the Wii games will have it right away. Also, check this out:
http://www.planetgam...cfm?artid=11428
Sony didn't do it as well as the big N.
I'm going over to IGN to check the DS Crystal Chronicles. I have a feeling that's a must have...

Damn, they made their system so damn attractive, even if you hate Sony you'd still ending up buying the PS3...
It seems in the next-gen Japanese are sticking together, Square says their future is Sony, Nintendo and Cell phones! Oh my!

The controller looks EXACTLY like the PS2 and PS1 controller (no surprise to me), except that it has motion sensoring, for eample, if you turn the controller right, the the camera moves right (kinda the same idea as games like kirby: tilt and tumble).
I can't wait to see what else Sony presents.

First of all, the biggest news is how Sony has introduced its PS3 and pretty much told us everything we need to know. They showed us how the new controller will not be ugly, but will once again be the Dualshock. Also, to the most surprise of everyone, the controller will have 60 degrees of free-motion technology. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, the Wii controller started the free-motion technology trend. Now, the Nintendo fanboy in me says that Sony ripped off Nintendo, and this is partially true. However, ever since Microsoft has entered the video game world, Sony has made the PS2 and PS3 the perfect niche between mature games and revolutionary technology. But for $750?!? No way in hell people under the age of 18 will be buying that with their own money. Yay! I get to buy more levels from Sony's online? They pretty much covered the bases on how to steal your money.
Anyways, the Wii looks awesome, the controller is going to be amazing, but how about some prices, huh, Nintendo? The price needs to be very competitive to keep Sony off their backs. $300 would be perfect. I'm still buying it. The 360 degrees free motion makes its controller better than the PS3's and it still takes games in a place they've never been before.
I think someone said that the 360 would be like the Dreamcast? Forgotten after better systems came out. Well I've got two words to change your mind on that. Halo 3. This is definitely the thing I'm most excited about at E3! It almost makes me want to get a 360 except it's the only game I'd want to play.
Anyways my corny analysis is over. I love discussing this stuff.

IGN brought up a good point. With the PS3 and 360 being very expensive, Nintendo has some 'wiggle room' with the Wii. It can be slightly more expensive now and have even more features.

But yeah, PS3 > Wii graphics wise, Wii > PS3 controls wise. You won't get Red Steel's accuracy on a PS3. Or Metroid Prime 3 Corruption's ability to rip out damaged doors.

I loved the N64 Diddy Kong Racing too! One of the best racing games I've ever played. Both me and my brother were very happy to hear there'll be a new DKR, but then we found out it's a remake. And I HATE playing remakes of games I've already played. So if I ever get a DS I certainly won't be getting this game unfortunately...

It has all the info on the Wii that nintendo has to offer. And screens and pics of the suped up new controller. For those who want a direct link to TP info, click here This link is found in the previous link above, but I thought some might just want a direct link.
It is confirmed that the Wii will comunicate wirelessly with the DS. I'm also fairly sure that you will be able to play classics on the Wii for free using the "Virtual Consol" It will be connected to the net 24/7 (duh) 512 mb of internal memory, but don't fret, you can use memory cards. It also has an S-Video port. The graphics proscessor is yet to be told. The following info & more is found here

Sure, it's a picture from 2 months ago but still.
I'm really, really, REALLY hoping that's was just made at a larger scale so that everyone in the audience could see it...
My dad's thinking of getting a PS3 at launch for the HD DVD. We have a HDTV; my dad's a bit of a geek about it (high-def stuff). He watches the INHD and INHD2 channels on TV all the time just for the sake of watching something HD. They have really crappy shows.
But anyway, I'm a little happy about it. I've never owned a TV console before! But he's only THINKING about it, so I'm trying to not be too enthusiastic.

It's a picture of the PS3, with some funny Japanese person holding it. The size of a PS3 compared to a person is staggering.
Anyone have a picture of a Wii, in actual size?

What do you think of the new PS3 controller? (from IGN's IGN Poll)
http://polls.snowball.com/mighty/results/snowball/ign10119.jpeg
Heh, PSWii...
On another note, there's alot of Sony fanboys out there... IMO, the only kind of person that would support Sony after ripping off Nintendo (again) is a lowly Sony fanboy.

I'm going to try to get more money over the summer to buy a Wii. I'll convince my dad to let me get one and hook it up the monitor on our desk, placing the Wii either under the monitor or somewhere off to the side. It sure is small enough to be out of the way!
And don't use IE, Toasty. You can view the image in FireFox.
http://www.downloadfirefox.net/
It doesn't take long to download, and you can easily import all your favorites and crap from IE to FF. And if it's a problem with your not-so-savvy parents, just keep IE as the "default" browser...

(Note: Sora is the name of my company.)
When I released Super Smash Bros. Melee for Nintendo GameCube, I ran a detailed and extensive site on the game in Japan called "Smabura-Ken" . (In Japan, "SmaBura" is short for "Smash Bros.") While I would have liked to have done the site in both English and Japanese, it just wasn't possible at the time.
Well, it's been four years since I finished updating "Smabura Ken"!
Who would have thought I'd be writing a new "Smabura Ken" again? Boy, talk about a surprise. But this time, I'm doing it right. With the help of Nintendo of America's Localization group, this new site will be available in both English and Japanese!
That brings us to why I've started this new site. I was recently put in charge of creating a Super Smash Bros. title for Wii. Development started in October 2005. Scheduled for release in 2007. It feels like we've only just begun, but we are hard at work on it.
Just a bit of the game's content was revealed recently at the world's largest games show: the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3. So I'd like to make the same images available to all of you.
As for future updates to Smash Bros. Dojo... What should I do? I haven't given it much thought yet.
For now, this is simply a debut. It is not a major launch.
I must first immerse myself in game creation. Maybe then, as the game gets farther along, I might be able do more.
Development is still going to take quite a while, however, so for the moment, I hope you'll enjoy this and be patient.

Yeeaaah... I'd say they're about the same in the number of games. But which console has the "best" games near the consoles launch is a matter of opinion. The Wii's games stand out to me more, with SSBB, Loz: TP, and Metroid.

Anyway. I think the Wii games really do have MUCH more potential (s?) than the PS3, Mainly because I'm a ninty fanboy, but also because the Wii really is the standout this year. The PS3 and 360 are just suped up versions of old consoles, really not that exciting. But the Wii is a brand new concept, brand new idea. It's fresh, it's new, it's young and hip! It draws in non-gamers because of it's obvious ammount of entertainment available. It brings in old gamers who really want something new. But most of all. It brings everybody.. Together.. <_<

Yeah, let's not compare numbers here. We all know the PS3 has more support because the PS2 had so many games last gen. At least, I think we all know that... :-|

Anyway, you're actually right! I don't know **** about most of the games on the Wii AND/OR the PS3. But that's partially because I only research/look at the games that have been positively reviewed or have been praised by one of my friends.
I repeat, PLEASE tell me that isn't the PS3's ACTUAL size.

I check the list above, there are ~35 well extablished games with series announced for the Wii against ~70 extablished PS3 games.

Seeing how no one seems to be trying to defend the PS3's size, I guess that's how big it really will be...
#99

Pros
Amazing technical feat, looks like the best graphics of the 3
Easy to pick up and play for traditional gamers (controller same)
Brings in new gameplay with the 60 degree free motion controller
Games that will please with incredible-looking games like GTA4, MGS4, FFXIII
Online will be much improved from PS2
Cons
System is too expensive.
System is too big.
Controller can be seen as a ripoff of the "Wii-mote"
Online may not be as deep as XBox 360's.

#102

FFTA was sub-par.
FF XI was a joke, and too much money was wasted on it.
FF Crystal Chronicles... well, we all know, so we won't talk about it.
Apart from FFX, no recent games have been very good, but I adored the FF4 remake, but the FF1 and 2 remakes were also sub-par.
Remember, these are jus my opinions.

May I put some pros and cons on the Wii?
Pro's
- Wii is revolutionary. Will bring new level of gameplay.
- Graphics so far are good, and these are mostly screens of uncompleted games (SSBB), which means final product could be even better.
- Good line up of launch titles, many more to come
- 360 degrees of motion sensitivity, even distance from the T.V.
- Bunch of nice features
- Wiimote may bee dificult for some people to get used to
- $300 price tag (estimated). Yeah, it's cheaper than other systems, but it's twice as much as the cube
- 24/7 net acsess may make it easier for a virus of some sort to corupt your system

Let's not forget about XBox 360. If you people haven't seen games like Halo 3, Fable 2, Gears of War, or Warhammer, I am amazed at your insolence.
Personally, out of these titles, I am most looking forward to Gears of War. The stop and pop shooting element looks awesome, plus you can kill people up close with a chainsaw! I cannot wait for this game to come out, and maybe I can convince my friend to buy it. :P

Halo 3 will probably not be on the PC until a year and a half after the XBox release. Plus, the online play on the 360 is better than the PC. Also, Gears of War may not be available on the PC.

I'm quite satisfied, to say the least. :P
But the PS3 didn't make the list, so I'm confused about that. Either the PS3 itself wasn't all that impressive at E3, or the editor is a Ninty fanboy (Xbox 360 games were listed on the Top 10).

- Too Human for Xbox 360
- Brooktown High: Senior Year for PSP
- Snoopy vs. the Red Baron for PS2, PSP, and PC (...)
- Justice League Heroes for PS2 and Xbox
- Alone in the Dark for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC
- F.E.A.R. for Xbox 360

Knowing Sony, I doubt they really have "anything" new up their sleeve, but Blu-Ray should be enough to make it popular.
Anyway, the popularity of the Wii raises the question: Will Nintendo once again take it's seat as the "console king" in the world of video games?
EDIT:

I like the black PS3.
(Hello, another) EDIT:
Okay, this should be the actual size of the PS3...
http://media.ps3scene.com/images/size/xboxps3-size-comparison.jpg
It isn't actually THAT big. Thank God.
The Wii, however, is a midget! Hahaha! That's a good thing, though.

Posted 14 May 2006 - 05:02 AM
So, if Blu-Ray wins, Sony is going to be more profitable than if it was in the Gaming Industry only since the movie, computer, games, PORN industries (more can be named I think) will use Blu-Ray.

One of my friends pointed out something interesting. Not only will the PS3 be much more expensive than anyone has ever heard of, but since it sports new types of technology that has NEVER been used before (Blu-Ray, CELL) the PS3 maybe veerrry glitchy and faulty when it first comes out.
But, that aside, let's talk about other stuffs. Apparently the PS3 will sport a Menu just like the Home Menu the PSP has. I found a screen somewhere, but now I can't find it.

Here's my top 10 things from E3, *sniff* now that it's over.
1. Wii
Nintendo brought it this year with the Wii and started the revolution that they began ten years ago with Super Mario 64. Viva la Wii!
2. Halo 3
XBox 360 owners wet their pants when they saw this trailer, and I must say I got close. Can't wait for more info on the final game in the series.
3. PS3 - Free motion controller
Though I'm not crazy about them "stealing" Nintendo's idea, this was explosive news. It doesn't look there will be many games that will use this feature, though.
4. Metal Gear Solid 4
Makes me want a PS3. Does Snake really kill himself?
5. Spore
You...are...God. Need I say more?
6. Gears of War
If you don't want to shoot someone, you can just cut their FREAKIN' HEAD OFF WITH A CHAINSAW! A beautiful game for the angry person in all of us.
7. Twilight Princess
We finally got a great demo of the game for the Wii and it is the forerunner in all the Wii games. Can't wait.
8. Assassin's Creed
Simply the best graphics at this year's E3. But is it a good game? Time will tell.
9. Red Steel
Ubisoft never disappoints with these type of game, and I am most excited about this third-party launch title.
10. Final Fantasy XIII
It's Final Fantasy! How could it not make the top 10 list!

Also, about the PS3 controller. Sony has a lot of time to make it work better, they couldn't make it properly in this (relatively)short time and when it does work right it'll be just the same as the Wiimote.

Oh come on, it's not that good. It's a video game!
You know, something happened when the name was changed from Revolution to Wii. Suddenly, the Revolution lost its appeal to mature gamers. I'm not sure that Nintendo can grab the 20 year old market with a name like Wii and launch titles that are 75% rated E. Now, I know that I've made the argument in the past that just because its an E rating doesn't mean it's not fun. Sadly, not all people think this, especially the mature market. Will Nintendo be able to sell consoles to the mature market?

You stole my exact words. ;)
Unlike the Gamecube, the Wii actually looks like it can appeal to mature gamers.(i'm talking game wise)
Games like Disaster: Day of Crisis actually show that the Wii does have excellent graphics and that it has what it takes to compete with the 360 and PS3.

Like for instance, for the 60GB HD PS3, a movie (for instance The Da Vinci Code), an album (any new album), a 1st party game, or some other content can be placed. It wouldn't cost Sony a fortune since downloading content to a HD isn't that hard or expensive.

It take more than just money to make a good system. It takes creativity. All Sony does is copy other people's idea. Nintendo actually thinks for themselves, and even Microsoft has original ideas. Sony may get the motion sensing right, but it will always be thought of as a rip off of the Wii by anyone who isn't a Sony fanboy.

And mind you toasty, I'm just the one who defends Sony around here since the majority of people just bashes sony (maybe except SoT)... I enjoy both Nintendo AND Sony's world. Owned PS2, PS1, GC, GBA, DS and those old Nintendo console.
I think I can judge well.

The only thing they've done on the PS that's actually going to have some sort of an effect is the Blu Ray, and that doesn't actually have much to do with gaming, anyway. Name one thing Sony have done that's changed gaming for the better.
Don't get me wrong though, I like PLAYSTATION just fine, it's SONY I hate.
And I still find it hard to imagine moving a Dual Shock with two hands to aim or whatever. Using one hand seems much more effective.

Eugine, every website I've been to says Warhawk's motion-sensing wasn't that good, though they say it's the controller's fault, not the game's. If you hold the controller to one side the plane will move there, but it will return to it's previous state before you move the controller back. And there were some other things...
But even though their controller wasn't perfect at E3, I still say they will get it right. They have a lot of time to do so.

His theory does make a point.
And Sony did help gaming. Sony was really the company that made gaming into an idustry. Really think of it, before the gaming "industry" was considered just another sector. After Sony's introduction of the PS, gaming was really taken serious, many people came on the Sony bandwagon, they brought competition. Now people HAD to do things right.
Sony caused gaming to be the central electronics in a household. Really check it out. Before Sony, consoles were just left there - anyway until use.
But I admit, Sony isn't perfect and didn't contribute as much to gaming as Nintendo, but Nintendo isn't and wouldn't be the "savior" of gaming in anyway. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony competing; competition is the savior of gaming; like any other industry.
Do you honestly belive Nintendo would become so "innovatie" if it was in Sony's position? No, when Nintendo dominated the Console war, the SNES was just an upgrade to the NES. They had to do something to gain the market share back people. Stop being clouded. Think business-like and you'd realise what I'm talking about.

Eugine, it's worth mentioning that developers weren't even informed of the tilt function in the controller until just a week or two before E3. The Warhawk demo was put together in that time, and even the director (or producer, I can't quite remember) said that he didn't even know Sony had such functionality.
The point: Sony randomly and only recently implemented the tilt function, and sacrificed Rumble functionality to do so, only to try to challenge Nintendo's controller. It's not the basis of the controller, it's only an add-on function that has a lot less time to be used effectively in games.

Wasn't PS2 just an upgrade of the original PS, as well? It used the exact same controller. PS3 has an upgrade of the controller. (albeit an unoriginal one)
In a perfect "gaming world", though, EVERY company would work to dish out new innovations, keeping the world of gaming fresh, to make themself stand out from the crowd. Additionally, they would try to make their consoles affordable and maybe even CHEAPER than other consoles if it's possible. Does Sony do EITHER of these things? No, they jacked the Wiimote and their console's going to be 500+ US Dollars. Hmm...

Thee PS2 was just an upgrade of the PS because Sony was dominating the gaming industry. Why change when what you're doing is already bring about tremendous profits?
I as a company, would only change, to regain market share, that's exactly what Nintendo did. They were innovative and I'm proud of it, but if Sony was in Nintendo's position they'd do the exact thing. Think of something new.
It happened to Sony in other industries and aren't you see how innovative they are? The new Sony cameras, Walkman phone, reader, TVs, etc. are all innovative.
Their gaining market share like a horse too. Maybe it might happen to Nintendo here :)

Here's the story. Nintendo saved the gaming industry with the NES after Atari and E.T. killed it. NES sold units worldwide like no other gaming system could. Then the Genesis dropped a low blow on Nintendo by introducing Sonic. Sonic was faster and more appealing than Mario, gamers turned to speed.
Then, in comes Sony who scoffs at the 16 bit generation. Looking to the future, Sony releases the Playstation which revolutionizes home gaming and takes it to the next level. Crash Bandicoot is still one of the best selling game franchises of all time. Nintendo improved on the 3D experience with Super Mario 64. Then, Sega fights back into the picture with the Dreamcast. Sega is short lived after Sony again drops the bomb that is Playstation 2. Once again they revolutionize gaming. XBox gives good competition and Gamecube lives in the shadows satisfying only the hardcore Nintendo fans.
Now, the question is, can Sony live up to its own expectations with the PS3, or will Nintendo catch up to them or pass them?
Sony has marketed gaming to an older market that had not seen gaming as something that would appeal to them. Nintendo is looking to take this to the next level by not only appealing to the 10-30 male market, but to everyone.
Sony is sticking with their bread and butter, superior graphical power. But will consumers want to pay $600 to play a video game? I guess we'll see this November.

Actually, the PS2 sold 100 million units worldwide, while XBox sold 22 million and GC 21 mil. So it wasn't only GC in the shadows, it was both the GC and XBox.

And think about it; Sony's not expanding the market in anyway (not as Nintendo is doing, at least), only appealing to the same audience.
Sony's on top now. But there's only one way to go from there, and that's down.

Actually, I think the Wii will win on the X-mas of 2006, since it's so cheap and has a few strong launch titles. When the PS3's price drops, though, there's a good chance it'll bite back.

As for the Wii, it's being supported on all sides, even from it's usual enemies. Good price, good games, good overall gameplay. I'd expect it to be sold out for at least a few weeks, if not a month.
The 360 already did it's major selling, so it won't sell much this season. Most of the people who wanted one got one.

HONESTLY, from what the majority of retailers are saying as well as consumers. The Xbox will have a stronger shopping season than the Wii. People are hyping up the Wii now, but the only game that will probably rock on the Wii around shopping season is Zelda.
And WD, HD-DVDs are out already, by time the PS3 is released they'd be over 100 HD movies (both Blu-ray and HD-DVD).

As a side note, I disagree with what Toasty said. The 360 is not done at all, it is actually coming out with a lot of good games. Microsoft wasn't just gonna release all their good games at the launch. They want to shoot down their competition with Halo 3, Gears of War, etc.

PS3 won't be anything more than an exclusive Ebay item this year, like the 360 was last year. The 360 on the other hand, will be selling all over the world like hotcakes. Fall titles will push it along.
But then again, Nintendo has such a huge following, they'll be selling as many Wii as they can produce.

My dad is a big of a gadget geek. I reckon that the article he read was made by a fellow gadget geek, who was heavily biased in favor of Sony (who makes all the neat, spiffy little gadgets) as opposed to Nintendo. (who don't make any spiffy little gadgets)

Actually, based on the Wii's crazy success at E3, I think it'll sell out fast. It ought to be a hot item this year.
