GL, the DS has just a little bit more computational horsepower than the N64 (120k polys per second vs. 100k). Unfortunately, Nintendo had to be ghey and limit the maximum number of vertices (lines, or sides of a polygon) to 6144 per frame (which equates to 2048 triangles per frame, or 1024 hexagons, or so one and so forth). Though I suppose that's all fine and dandy because that pretty much guarantees 60FPS for all games.

The way I see it, the best looking games for the N64 look a lot like FFIII DS and now GoldenSun DS. You can still make it look better with texture mapping tricks and maybe some other effects, but the polygon count isn't likely to go up.

well vertices are actually where the lines meet. You're thinking of polygons, which is the faces of the model. Most engines prefer tris since it's easier to calculate and render, but quads are usually preferred since it results in a smoother looking model.

But I think the DS allows higher texture resolution than the n64, which is why games tend to look nicer on the DS, but it could also be the low resolution screen/small screen size that makes them look 'better'.

I recall it being said earlier that having a "perpetually young Isaac" might be in the plans. While I wouldn't want it to be the same Isaac, having a lead character in his form may be useful. Consider that the character most associated with Golden Sun is Isaac (i.e. his inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl), and it might well be said that he is the 'signature' character of the series, the 'face' to Golden Sun.

Having an Isaac 'resume' the lead role would fit well in maintaining this.

I suppose...it would make it less confusing and seem less like the Final Fantasy series. In that respect it would tie all three games together.

Maybe we'll see more interesting faces when the game comes out.

She's got purple eyes, and her clothing more closely resembles that of Sheba's. Though she does have turquoise hair.

I believe the footage the gave us showed a separate battle screen as seen in most handheld RPG's. Could be wrong though, but I hope I'm not because it'd suck otherwise IMO.

This is just my thought, but by using the word "descendant", they're implying a generation farther down the line from even grandchildren. "Descendant" does sound like more of a word you'd use to imply a generation past the children and grandchildren.

I would agree that the use of the word "descendants" implies at least grandchildren, although it could also imply mixed generations (children of some characters, grandchildren of others). Again, I'm not sure what good speculation does.

It'd be doubtful to say that Golden Sun DS is the last game in the series, knowing Nintendo they'll want atleast a couple of other games out of the franchise. Seeing as Nintendo mostly counts on nostalgia to keep the moneyflow going.

I do hope the developers stay true to what we know and love of the Golden Sun franchise. Just packaged a little nicer.

Those games are more on the spritey side, Golden Sun has always had a sort of quasi-realistic art style to its characters and backgrounds. Though none of that applies any more since we're dealing with 3D now...

You know how every adept is directly associated with an element? Isaac is earth, Garet's fire, etc.? I was thinking that some of the characters would be directly affiliated with more than one element.

Like, they'd always have two elemental types of psyenergies no matter what djinn they had, but obviously if they were associated with fire and earth, and had all fire djinn, their fire attacks would be more powerful than their earth attacks. But they'd still have some of both.

It would make sense considering that alignment is based on the adept's race, and with the return of Alchemy it would have helped further diplomacy between clans.

I don't think it would really be worth any extra tactical dimension though, seeing as elements don't really play a huge role in the battle system. And by the end of the game you can create pretty much any class you want for each character.

Upon closer inspection, it also appears to be a party of 3, the way I see it. The image is difficult to see, but expanding it a bit shows that the other masses in the image are smaller and look like the enemies that appear in the E3 demo.

If you look at just the three, their spacing is perfectly even. Throw one of the supposed enemies in their, and the spacing is off.

even though they only show a party of three in the demo, there will prolly be a 4th person in there eventually. remember that you start out with a party of 3 in both GS and GS2, but you get a 4th person eventually in like the third of fourth city or whatever.

Actually I always disliked that you filled your party so soon in the game.

And this idea of only having 3 characters out at once sounds cool. It wouldn't hurt for Golden Sun to have some more in the way of strategy and battle mechanics. I love the game but it was pretty straight forward and simple, just really well done.

I think it's assumed storywise that they're contributing to the battle, they're just not controlled because having an active party that large would be pretty overwhelming.

Exactly as Split said it. There are many RPGs where only a limited party is taken into battle, but all of the characters are actively 'involved' in reality. This is often acknowledged in cutscenes or dialogue, where a character will comment on how tough a previous fight was even if he/she was never actually controlled by you, for example.

Now that could be him diving off of Venus Lighthouse, or even having to fight his own parents at the top of Mars Lighthouse, but then Isaac has to do the latter as well. Maybe there's something related to that in GS3?

I think there are enough of those Fire-Emblem/Final fantasy/Advance Wars battle-type games. I like the turn-based games, even if they don't quite make sense. It's fun, and that way, you get to have some characters on offense, some on defense, and its all relatively within the same turn. (save for those few nasties that attack before your players get to heal. :[ ) It still requires just as much strategy, though of a different kind.

They weren't planning a GS3 at the time. Any plot details or dialogue or anything from the original games is talking about the plot of those games. If you think some dialogue doesn't make sense within those games, it's poor writing :D.

That doesn't mean they can't cheat and pick up loose ends from the previous games and try to tie them into the new one :D

We haven't seen any touch screen interaction except for the TWEWY-esqe field movement. Unless I've missed something new.

I asked a friend of a friend to read the Camelot site, and he said it's just a message saying that they are indeed making it, and that they are really busy making it. But he said there weren't any details, so I didn't press him to write up a full translation for us Japanese-illiterate folk.

It's been confirmed you can use the touch screen for movement, but you aren't required to. That's all we know so far.

Couldn't you just do a google translate, Copy n paste Jap text into the translate field, and turn it to English?

Ok fine. I was anxious for the "unanswered questions" to be answered. I'm fully aware that TLA tied things up nicely to make it a good series independent of a possible next chapter. I'm just glad that another game was made. I was getting tired of wishing.

I wonder if any of the fanfic writers are going to get ticked when the story line is revealed. I mean, we all went through pretty much every possible scenario of a GS3 future--Camelot's bound to use the same one without even realizing their storyline has already been written X3

I'm not about to look up the true meaning of what a cliffhanger is. All I know is that I was anxious to hear some kind of explanation as to what was going to happen next for GS, from the actual writer's minds, not some fans, and especially not my own imagination.

The only kinda what-happens-next that I saw was the question of whether Alex survived. The way I see it is, if Alex DID survive, his plan would be to get revenge on Isaac for ruining his plan. (Even though Isaac didn't do anything to ruin it himself...)
