hmm...shouldn't be too hard. If you've finished every character's path in the grid, you shouldn't have any trouble. Aside from Demonoliths, who always counter with Pharaoh's curse (multiple status ailments), you should have no problems at all. Oh, and let's not forget Malboros...in my experience, they've been quite a rare encounter, and unless you have a character with the "First strike" ability in his/her weapon, you'll most likely die. Malboros in the Omega Ruins have 100% ambush rate, and attack with a beefed-up version of bad breath that inflicts berserk on your characters, making you unable to control them. Berserk makes all your charcaters attack indiscriminately, and they all end up dying from poison. So, yeah, aside from those two encounters, you should be fine :blink:

Having Ribbon on your armour helps as well. First strike is alot easier to get though. Doesn't Rikku get auto-first strike or something?

malboros in the calm lands and in the sunken cave don't have 100% ambush rate. Malboros in the Omega Dungeon do. At least in the North American version. So, with first strike, you'll get the "Ambushed!" message, but you'll still get the first turn. In said turn, i use Delay Buster, and hack away without giving poor malboro a single turn.

i finally finished FFX! yay! i just said "to heck with it" and skipped the omega dungeons/unlocking all original creations in the monster arena, cause, as I haven't been playing much, it would take forever to finish. *SPOILER ALERT* man, i was pissed off when i found out what yu-yevon looked like. I mean...they could've come up with something a little bit better...anyways, the ending was kinda sad, but good nonetheless. Lotsa CG goodness to watch. And finally, i loaded up the last save file right before the final battle, so i could get to see Yojimbo's Zanmato attack...but he never does it...I saw Wakizashi, Kozuka, and Daigoro...but no Zanmato. I heard you have to blow a lot of cash to see it, but i only had close to 800k gil...speaking of which, has anyone in here seen Zanmato? if so, how much gil did you have to pay Yojimbo to do it?

used Zanmato on little ****s before, all enemies are vunerable to Zanmato (even Penance!) but each enemy has a resistance level to it, either 1,2,3 or 4. Pay Yojimbo lots of gil and don't ghet him killed and builds a good relationship which occasionally makes do moves with out needing payment and is vital for getting Zanmato to work on enemies with lvl 4 resistance, that and **** loads of gil. Apparently if you spend some absurd amount of gil on Yojimbo (300 billion or something) he will use Zanmato everythime for 1 gil. Zanmato kills anything instantly but you probably knew that and congrats on finishing the game!

I love the japanese translation for Zanmato, "Demon Blade". I love it when he does it as well, it looks so cool. But the principle of using a move that can instantly kill anything takes all the fun out of Yuna bonking something on the head with her Nirvana staff and doing upwards of 20k damage.

Bahamut + Impulse is enough for me regarding Aeons. I only really ever used other Aeons as sheilds (Summon them, enemy kills them in one hit, party is unscathed)

I never really had any interest in the FF series, really. It just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe it's because of its overhyped popularity, I dunno. Maybe it's because I prefer the style of Tales series games over it. I've just never held the interest to complete any FF game. (Besides FFT:A)

You should never just disregard a game due to its reviews, though you can consider them. Never just look at a numerical rating and judge a game at that; at the very least, read through a few reviews and see what the game is about.

In the case of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, that game is best played with all four players, and with GBAs and cables, a fairly steep requirement that hindered its overall ratings. However, you'd never just guess that from a number, yes?

So FFXII comes out in a couple days, and since I have a brand new PS2, I was wondering if now would be a good time to jump into the series? Will I be confused if I jump into the series now, or am I allowed to just start now with the latest game.

Though I've only played one game in the series (FFVII), I'm pretty sure that the games have no relationship plot-wise. Some of the same elements during battle may be similar, but other than that, it's like the Fire Emblem games; no direct connection or relation between the stories.

There are no plot connections between the FF games, with the exception of FFX and FFX-2. I suggest after you've gotten 12 it might be worth getting 10 as well. The storyline is good.

FFXIII looks amazing. I have the feeling that if I do get FFXII, I'll just end up regretting not waiting for FFXIII. Then again, I probably won't be getting a PS3, so......forget that. ;)

I would've expected more activity in this topic from FFIII and FFXII.....

Well I got FFIII a few days ago, but I just started playing it today. The graphics (except the people. They could've done better, but their faces are alright) are amazing. The map seems small, but I havn't beaten the Djinn yet (funny how that word is used in GS as well.....). I'd say it's the closest thing to a GS3 you can get at this point, since you use magic and mideival weapons, and battle is turn-based. It's well worth the $40 so far.

I know it's really annoying. I finally found out that WarioWare will apparently be out in January next year. It was out in 2005 for everybody else.

The trailer is pretty amazing. It's one of the main reasons to buy a PS3 at the moment. I'd be happy with some new information though.

I heard it was real time rather than turn based, but I don't know if that's true. I guess the only way to see if you like it is to buy it, or rent it.

The battle system for FFXII isn't completely real-time. When you press X, the battle pauses and a menu pops up, allowing you to select things and such, like a turn-based fight. In other words, it's a real-time fight with a turn-based type selection of commands.

I have FFXII, and it's a pretty goos game so far, although I prefer turn-based battles myself. Since I'm punished right now, though, I haven't been able to continue. D= But I think you should get the game. It's worth it.

I'm almost finished with FFIII. I'm at the crystal tower, and I have to admit, the jobs make it a lot more in depth. I expected that the graphics for the characters would be better though.

The character graphics were fine with me. After all, they used to be pixilated. =3 In FFIII, I'm about to start on the dungeon that'll lead to the battle with Doga, then Uhei.

I didn't enjoy FFXII as much as I hoped I would. The changes made in the game weren't TOO major, but they ruined the game a bit too much for me to play it.

What about the storyline? The storyline is usually my the main factor in whether I play a final fantasy game or not. I know a little about the FFXII story but only pieces.

The story isn't really all that great, either. The general concept is several insurgents from the small kingdom of Dalmasca who want to overthrow the empire of Arcadia and restore the princess to the throne. Plot development is only really noticable at the beginning, but then doesn't progress much from then on out. Character development is a total failure. You don't really know anymore about Vaan at the end of the game than you do at the beginning...

I bought FFIV for the GBA today, since it was on special sale out this big warehouse thingy where companies buy their stuff. It was only 15,- euro.

It's pretty fun, it doesn't come close to the golden sun graphics and game but it's finally an RPG for the GBA that I really like. Still have to find out how the rest of the game is.

Edge magazine - the UK's best monthly gaming magazine out there. Edge have given Final Fantasy XII a whopping 9/10 and have also awarded it the best game of '06 to top it off. Edge are very stingy with scores so a 9/10 is rare to see in their scores, plus the amount of praise they've given it is somewhat surprising. The fact that such a hard-to-please group of journalists such as Edge find FXII so fantastic makes me want to get it even more desperately.

FFXII has received very good reviews almost always. It's a very popular game. For me, however, I find it to be possibly the worst one I've played. Not that it's really bad overall, but it could have definitely been improved on.

I was reading some stuff about FFXIII, and I must say, SquareEnix is going to start to go downhill with Final Fantasy once FFXIII gets released.

FFXII today! I'm unsure when it was actually released. I thought it was today but it looked like it's already in the games chart. I'm still getting used to the battle system but I'm sure I'll get into it soon.
The problem I've had is that I've gotten so used to defending myself in Zelda, that I feel I shouldn't lose health in any games. :huh: I forgot how that happens in FF.

for those who go on about Vaan and Penelo being underdeveloped and useless i say this; almost very FF game has its retard characters, just Square dont make you think they are the main characters. Idon't care what you, Balthier and Ashe are two of the best FF characters ever designed. Also any retard with a smidgeon of intelligence can figure out Ashe is the protagonist of XII

well that's like saying yuna is the protagonist of ffx. it's true in certain respects but obviously tidus is meant to be the one we're supposed to "see through the eyes of" same for vaan.

and of course there's going to be weak characters, there has been in every ff game.

the only problem is if u let one of the weak ones get neglected for a few levels, ur really screwed because the areas ur in will rape them instead of leveling them up. i say find the weak ones early and make sure they are always at least a level or two ahead of the group

Yuna is the protagonist of X really, just Tidus has a worthwhile role.

XII focuses more on the characters as a group, with the emphasis on showing Ashe's journey through the eyes of a noneventful really.

XII and Tactics have the best plot. that simple.

I only used 3 characters in XII and it was cake

that's all marks dead and game complete

the back party only lvls up from using Quickenings trying to get one of the sky pirate's den sprites

to XIIs credit you can choose your party at all times, so you're not left up **** street when the games decides now would be a great time for you to use a lvl 8 Rinoa

I just simply lost my interest in the game. I wasn't a huge fan of the battle system either, though I would say it was nice not to be suddenly pounced on whilst walking through a field nearly dead.

the same is true for VII, VIII and X. And to an extent in VI and X-2....

As i've said, i really enjoyed XII's battle system, it's fast, fluid and fair. I can honestly say i've never "been ambushed while walking through the field nearly dead". Healing is your friend.

I never played VI and VIII, but I know it's pretty much true with those other games, too. That's why I never let anyone in the party traverse the whole Sphere Grid, License Grid, etc. It left some diversity on the team.

At least Revenant Wings has the traditional learning moves through leveling up system. I don't know, but I always liked that way of learning techniques a lot more than any other method, except when learning ultra special moves through tutors, etc.

I believe the Materia system is definetly one of the best "job" systems in all of FF. Maybe second to FFX's sphere grid.

Materia was too easy to break and make yourself stupid
Junction system was poor, tedious to collect the magic and too easy to break
License System was pretty cool but became irrelevent after a certain point i found

the Aerith scene is overrated, it's pretty easy to predict if you pay attention to the plot. All the ZOMG THEY KILLED A MAIN CHARACTER people need to play Crono Trigger, that did it first and did a much better job.

Also if you'd be alowed to keep Aerith, do you know how easy the game would be? Her lvl 4 limit is BROKEN, (so is her first lvl 3)

And this is kind of off-topic, but, and don't everybody all flame me at once for this, I liked Chrono Cross alot better. I just love the replay value of getting every character, and how half way through the game

And this is kind of off-topic, but, and don't everybody all flame me at once for this, I liked Chrono Cross alot better. I just love the replay value of getting every character, and how half way through the game

I've been playing FFV on my GBA but I'm not overly amazed with it. It feels like a normal FF game but doesn't have much excitement. I reckon it's because I've played FFVI and now expect all the 2D games to be as good as that.

Yeah, I remember watching someone play some FF game on the PS1 for about 15 seconds. That was when the PS2 had been out for about a year. I don;t know when, but somtime between then and two yeas ago, it just reminded me of FFVII, even though I never played it, or any of the spinoffs. XD

FFIII on the DS was fun. It was a lot longer than I expected too. When I thought I had finally finished it, it led me to a world 5 times bigger than the one I started on!

I still havn't finished it. XD Last I left it, I was level crunching so I could stand a chance at beating the final boss. Havn't had a chance to finish it since I lost my DS though....

The first FF to be released in the states was FFIV (which was released as FF I :S)

I've just got to the Yunalesca fight in FFX and holy crap is it hard. Seriously, could they have made a harder fight? Every time I counter one thing, it just seems to lead to something else bad happening.

I have fond yet painful memories of that fight. From what I remember from the last time, you'll basically want a lot of Remedies and Holy Waters, as well as someone to cast Esuna, most likely Yuna. I also believe she zombifies and then puts Regen on you, so if that happens, just use a Holy Water when you can and you'll end up with a free status boost. Also, try to have as many characters as possible with Death Ward or Deathproof, because Mega-Death is a massive threat in her final stage, and it only takes a little bad luck for it to wipe out your entire party.

That's what I did too. Just go to one of the big square rooms, then keep triggering an alarm to bring in the guards. Once you get a chain big enough, you can stop healing because the items will start doing it for you.

Ghis is a lot harder than the Elites, so I'd suggest you just keep killing them until you can hold them off comfortably. Then you'll have a good shot at beating Ghis.

That's what I was doing, but I used reflect so the healing spells wouldn't work. It took me awhile to realise this was a bad idea.

Man, what could I have ever done without Quickenings. They have killed 2 bosses in one hit.

I'm in the king's tomb looking for the dawn shard. Made it past both the moving wall bosses, but then got rapped by that fire dude. Even doing a 4 Quickening chain, and a 2 Quickening chain, barely got him past half.

Skid, your supposed to use Quickening chains when the boss is nearly dead so it doesnt matter that you lose all youe MP, plus it ignores that stupid Half Damage thing a lot of them do

most of the story espers are pretty east, Mateus was probably the hardest, some of secret ones are right *******s though

Oh, for the record, 1000 Needles is an awesome technick for any character under level 50. Seriously, 1000 damage and no MP usage. How can you go wrong?

@Me111: Get out your long range characters and cast Hastega, then throw stuff at Sin until he gets close enough (Wakka's Reels can do some good damage there). Then switch in your swordsmen, use Hastega again, use up your best attacks, then on the last turn bring out Bahamut and have him use his Overdrive to finish the job.

So I go to the Garif village, talk to the elder dude, and ride off on a chocobo, trying to find a mountain. Well, I take a path, which goes into a cave, and I thought it might lead to the mountain. Outside the cave, lvl 14 monsters. Inside, lvl 35.

Grr...I just figured out why my party isn't levelling up. Apparently using Poach on an enemy doesn't gain you any experience. I'm booting it off my gambit list.

It's a technick which can be used to capture an HP critical enemy, at the same time awarding you a rare item. It's an easy way to finish off monsters with a lot of HP, since you only have to get them down to about 20% of their health.

Well, that's just the game's description. As far as I can tell it's the same as killing them, except you don't get any EXP or LP.
