Edit: Ok, i'm level 5 and i'm really confused as to where to go, what to do etc. Levelling takes so long already, and monsters are either too weak that they give paltry xp, or too strong so that I get killed by them.

I am on the Maelstrom server, playing as a Rogue. This game is overrated and I'm planning on cancelling my subscription if things don't improve by the end of this month. People praise this game for how fun things are once you hit LV80, but the grind to reach that level is not very interesting at all. I'm planning to sign back up to Warhammer Online, where levelling was actually amusing. WoW's polish is great, and it is a good MMO, but it's quite obvious that many players are drawn to it because of its popularity.

All of you probably know at least a dozen people who play WoW, which gives you a reason to sign up. My whole clan excluding me plays WoW, but I've been telling them about WAR which is very promising even though it's new. I suggest you guys check it out as well if you're looking for a WoW clone which is more focussed on PvP.

Yeah, I haven't really been that into this game lately. Blizzard makes it impossible for people who aren't level 80 or have full, top-tier arena gear to have any sort of fun. Although I like Northrend a lot, it's just more of same, like Anu-chan said above.

They've actually made it a lot easier to level up in the recent patches. Leveling 30-50 (and 61-70 now that I think about it) has had the requirements significantly reduced, and has been streamlined by adding mounts at 30 instead of 40. Getting to 30 isn't much of a problem either if you're willing to just hop between starting zones. The only pitfall right now is 50-58, there are some decent instances in that range, but it still drags some, especially alliance side. Once you hit Outland though it's a breeze, and a lot of fun. Azeroth was designed with the idea of matching the Storylines from Warcraft, which leads to a lot of inconveniences, poor level matches and long transit times. Outland and Nothrend were designed with making a fun MMO in mind, and it shows.

Most people complain the grinding isn't sustainable and isn't any fun. Yeah, welcome to grinding guys! Get out there and play the game. I do mostly quests and Pick-up groups for instances and I level up very easily. A tough work schedule and spending a lot of time at inns keeps my bar blue so it's a bit easier than normal, but I don't foresee anyone having huge trouble with it if they quest a lot and have an open mind. Plus the new recruit-a-friend offer is pretty much Blizzard-sponsored hacking. Boosted XP from combat, boosted reputation gains, TRIPLE quest XP, it's insane. There's a "Grant Level" button for heaven's sake!

I already use recruit a friend and I've been taking advantage of all the benefits you mentioned. It doesn't stop me from getting bored after doing quest upon quest. The only excitement from questing is knowing that at some point some c*ckface is going to gank you when you put your guard down.

I'm on a trial account, and my professions are both Engineering and Mining. I've got both of them up to level 75, but when i visit the trainers, there isn't an option to buy the journeyman upgrade. What has happened, is it a problem with my account? Tom is on a trial account as well but he got Journeyman in his professions.

There's an option you can use when you talk to the trainers to filter out skills you either can't learn, already know, or, for some reason, skills can learn. Check the filter and make sure you didn't hide everything. It should be in the top right of the box, below the exit button.
I could be wrong though, but that's my first guess.

My main is a Level 80 Retribution (or Ret) Paladin on Llane

Ret Paladins have had the shaft for the 3 1/2 years that Blizzard gave us our useless spec. With this new expansion, we're basically like mini-god's. I guess Blizzard decided that it was time to stop the shafting of the Ret Paladin and actually make in viable in a raid situation of 10 or 25 people.

I just got the best weapon in the game tonight and was really excited when it happened.
I basically have 5 pieces of gear left before I have the best gear that is available in the game for my class and talent spec.

Been playing Since Jan 05 and it has definitely had its' high and low points. If you have a lot of free time and nothing to do with it, you should buy this game....maybe....

But seriously, in my opinion, don't buy this game. =P
Like i said, if you have a lot of free time, then MMORPG's are definitely for you, otherwise, forget it and save your time and money.

For those of you who want to understand what i'm saying, basically we needed to have at least 3 classes in our group of 5 people in a 25 man raid so that our DPS could be "acceptable". PLUS, we needed to be better geared than everyone so that our DPS could be "on par" or "even" with everyone elses. We were the hardest to gear out before WotLK and still are at some points in the game depending on what raiding content you're doing.

So saying that they were viable, don't even get me started on that shiznoz. I could go on for days about that buisness. =P

*sigh* I never said anywhere that i have played for 3 years. If you looked at my previous posts, i started playing since Jan 05. Considering ret was the only leveling spec back in the day, that's what i went with and stayed with. So technically I've played ret for 4 years and counting. I do play alliance (unfortunately). If i could change one thing, that would have been going to horde side to play a shaman.

Naxx was awesome the first time i was in it for 10 and 25 man. Now it's just annoying as all ****. It was Blizzard's "Bread and Butter" back in the 60 cap days. They spent so much time into developing it and yet we only had 3 months to do it before BC. I didn't even step into the place until i was 70 and 3 months before WotLK was supposed to come out. Even at 70 that place was a PITA. So them putting it back in for WotLK was actually a very decent idea imo and is an easy grind as well for 10 man.

I'm hoping to get in there next week. I've been running heroics for gear, but it's going slow; Arthas is a terrible server.

I've only been to Naxx once, a ten-man with a group that sucked. We wiped multiple times on the first boss, and he's supposed to be the easy one. People kept leaving as we kept wiping, but I stuck with it. We finally beat the first boss at started the wipe, leave, replace procedure on the second.

They tricked some expert 25-man healer into coming down, boy was he pissed. Especially after we started wiping some more. He started making his own replacements and he found more DPS than we had slots to fill, so he decided to kick the person on the bottom of the DPS meter. I was relieved that it wasn't me, but it turned out to be the raid leader. I was second to last so I got the boot. It glitched though so I didn't get hearthed out.

To piss them off I just hung around in there so they couldn't add another person to the raid group. I was going to leave but they got all whiny and started mocking me for being a noob. So I pulled the boss, blinked into the middle of the group an used ice block to throw the aggro onto them. I got killed pretty quickly as well, but it was worth it to wipe a raid I wasn't even part of.

The smart ones sucked it up and died, but the dumb ones bubbled and kited them around the whole dungeon. It got to the point where people had respawned and were coming back inside only to have adds kited into them and die again. A few guys left and they ended up calling off the whole thing because it was almost midnight by that time.

I gained nothing from that in terms of the game, made a few enemies in fact, but it was totally worth it. A few of them even came around and admitted to how awesome that was. Wow that was longwinded, and didn't say much about Naxx, but it was still awesome.

I absolutely hate Rouges. If they can get the jump on me (and they always get the jump on me, being Rouges) I'm dead, no doubt. But Warlocks are so pathetic in PvP that even if we survive the initial stun, we can't fight them off.
And it's worse when the Rouges are Gnomes, for some reason.

Ah yes, the grind of Heroics and Reputations, how i hateth thee.
Smart that Blizzard made 5 reputations grindable from doing heroics with a certain tabard.
On the down side, it is indubitably dumb that they give you between 2500 - 3000 rep per run.
Should be about 4500 - 5000 rep per run IMO to make it go a lot faster.

On another note, info about 3.1 and Ulduar are out on www.mmo-champion.com.
Paladin gear yet again looks stupid as ****.

Yeah, I downloaded the PTR (Public Test Realm) for Patch 3.1 and Dual Talent Specialization is basically teh hawt butt secks!!!

I'm Ret for my main spec and then Prot as my Secondary spec.

Freaking amazing too, all you do is click a button and it's like a 5 second cast bar and then POW you have a new tool bar and a new spec with new glyphs. Pretty much amazing shiznoz.

Also, Blizzard now implemented their own ItemRack feature so that going from one spec to another is as easy as the click of a button. Pretty much also amazing. No more crappy Itemrack. w00t!!!

Yeah, it sounds like there's going to be a lot of dramatic changes to the world map. I might even dust of the Warlock and have a look around.
Also, Worgen and Goblins are going to be the two new races in the game. Alliance and Horde respectively.

No not really I would rather have all the benefits of a crafting profession (Soulbound shit motfucka) on my main rather than on my alt. And as for gathering its only useful for making money or supplementing a crafting skill, and considering money is so easy to get in the latter levels I do have a point.

Also An epic ground mount costs like 70G including the training, if you took the time to level your alt up to 40 I think you can shell out a whole 70G for a mount, and even if you just create a DK they get a mount for free anyway.

Legolastom does prove a point. I have all of the Blacksmithing patterns out of ToC (Trial of the Crusader) 25 man, which is the newest content/instance out right now. I've made 6,000 Gold from just tips by having all the 6 Blacksmithing Patterns out of there. Only reason I have them is because our Guild Blacksmith quit the game and I was always the one that got the extra patterns because I'm awesome like that. =P

Oh, and about the mounts....you BASTARDS have it soooooo easy now.
I remember when I got my 60% mount AT LEVEL 40!!!!
My god, it was a day in fucking heaven for me.
I literally rode around Stormwind and Ironforge for like 2 hours because I finally had a mount.
Mind you all this is back at 60 cap in about May '05 when Ret Pallys weren't "broken" ,in the OP and broken sense of course, like it is now.
Also I had to do a 17 part quest chain to get my Level 60 Epic mount for 500g, which is like having 5,000g - 6,000g in WotLK now. That took me until sometime of Summer '06....ALMOST A YEAR LATER?!?!?!?

Okay, I'm done with my rant....for the time being =P

I don't see the problem, the old world is crap and outdated, anything that makes it go by faster is great.

As for Hellfire I only have two more quests to do before getting the loremaster achievement for that place (Both are dungeon quests), so yeah did practically every quest in that place.

He's probably talking about Arathi Basin Queue. Doing BG's in between quests so that you get EXP from those as well.
The best BG to go into while leveling though is Alterac Valley.
Too bad you can only start to do that BG after 50 =(

70 cap was back in the day when there was skill required, now it's just faceroll/burst/cleave your way to victory in arena's. Sorta sucks. Ret Paladin's are screwed over in Arena's and BG this patch. Hopefully something helpful happens for us during Cataclysm.

34, yay. Level 30-40 zones suck serious dick. The quests are just...so dull. Although instances are getting better with SC and RFD.

To fight the boredom from quests, have been doing some PVP battlegrounds in Arathi which is really fun. Get killed loads but using fear on people is so worth it. Watching a huge warrior run from a skeleton in a dress is priceless.
