Convince him to get a Radeon HD4850. I am ****ing serious. It is THE best value on the market right now. The darn thing is only $110-$130, vs. the GTX260's (cheapest GeForce 200 series) at least $180.

Then again, GeForce has PhysX and CUDA (the former is great for games, the latter is great for video encoding, and pretty much anything that supports CUDA acceleration).

your hard drive will be 100% fine.. might not be usable on THIS PS3 if it's something else wrong, but i've never heard of a ps3 failure that renders the hard drive unusable/erased.

Chances are there's some kind of program out by now that allows PC's to read the PS3 file system. If that's the case, just copy the data to an external drive and dump it onto the new PS3 as if you were completing the final step in a hard drive upgrade to your PS3.

Laptop SATA drives and desktop SATA drives use the same physical connection, so it's really not a problem.

It would be a problem if the PS3 used a laptop IDE drive, since the laptop and desktop varieties of IDE drives have different connections.

That reminds of the time me and my friend were playing public horde on GW2 and there were a few enemies left (1 flamer and a drone or two) there was only one guy alive so he went to go and kill the flamer guy (Would have killed him easily) so I thought it would be funny to (I was host) make the moment epic and do what N64 3rd party controllers define as "Slow motion". We lost the round and 3 people quitted out after that but it was funny.

The wildlife at Lake Tahoe really is flipping surreal. It's like they're as curious about you as you are about them.
