NOOOOOO
Convince him to get a Radeon HD4850. I am ****ing serious. It is THE best value on the market right now. The darn thing is only $110-$130, vs. the GTX260's (cheapest GeForce 200 series) at least $180.
Then again, GeForce has PhysX and CUDA (the former is great for games, the latter is great for video encoding, and pretty much anything that supports CUDA acceleration).
So w/e. At least convince him to get a 275.

Did it YLOD? Because that's fixable, you just need to get inside your PS3. Most of the time, I've heard, it's just the CPU detaching itself from the motherboard.

Chances are there's some kind of program out by now that allows PC's to read the PS3 file system. If that's the case, just copy the data to an external drive and dump it onto the new PS3 as if you were completing the final step in a hard drive upgrade to your PS3.
AND STOP DELETING MY FLIPPING POSTS WHOEVER YOU ARE.

Drizzy Drake, on Aug 19 2009, 10:24 AM, said:
Laptop SATA drives and desktop SATA drives use the same physical connection, so it's really not a problem.
It would be a problem if the PS3 used a laptop IDE drive, since the laptop and desktop varieties of IDE drives have different connections.

I had a great pic in mind, but realized that I must have missed copying it off of my sister's comp (she took all the pictures with her fancy shmancy Nikon D40).
The wildlife at Lake Tahoe really is flipping surreal. It's like they're as curious about you as you are about them.
[EDIT]
My mom's trying to take a pic with her cell phone. Right after this shot, the chipmunk kinda pawed at my mom's phone. Then it ran back onto the wooden fence thingy and got really, really close to my face.
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5329/szhxndxksmmwsevo.png
Chipmunk is about 3 inches away from my sister's camera in this pic:
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3774/szhxndxksmmwst.png
Also, you can be walking along the beach, and ducks will waddle right past you as if you weren't even there. They're all like "Oh, a human. w/e".
The lake itself is pretty frikkin' big, too.
