Oh it depends on how you caught it. I caught missingo and my pokémon kept getting EXP and levelled each time. but I traded missingo to get that. by the time I was at the third Gym, I had nearly level 100 pokemon. But it kinda depends on your game really.

What's unfortunate about the newer Pokemon games is that EVs are a big part of the game. EV stands for effort value, and the more training you do without additives such as Rare Candies and all those other power-ups, the more powerful your Pokemon will become when they level up. This means that a Lv. 20 Pikachu raised naturally will turn out to be a stronger Pokemon than a Lv. 20 Pikachu raised on Rare Candies.

An ingenious idea, really. It's great for people who really like to actually play the games. Plus, using GameShark and other cheating devices activates a program in the game that will destroy your save file and will not allow you to participate in official events. Another great idea, hehhehheh.

Just encountering Missingo can **** up your game. According to research done on the Gamefaqs pokemon blue board, whenever you encounter Missingo, the game writes random trash to the save file. Depending on what this is, your game can crash and your cartridge can be ruined.

Okay, so i used the mailbox a lot to store my letters, but then suddenly i began to get letters from a "green" and a "red"
These letters were gibberish and there were about a hundred of each.
I was pretty confused by this, but went on my merry little way. Then my game crashed. i reset it, and when i went back on it. Everything was the wrong colour. And it kept on crashing. Also, once i was surfing and when i went to land i was still a lapras. I emptied my mailbox and it never happened again.

This happened to anyone else?

I own it, turned it over a while ago. A lot of areas from the first one are reused, so that aspect alone was kinda bland. I also found it kinda difficult if you didn't level up your team often. The Purification Chamber is a stroke of genius. With the right combinations, you can purify Pokemon left and right.

Speaking of Missingno, isn't it strange how cheats tend to stuff up your game most of the time? Especially in the case of GTA. They were obviously put in there deliberately, and yet they corrupt your save file like some sort of glitch.

Missingno wasn't deliberate. it stands for "Missing number", and was there in case the game made a battle with a pokemon that was over number 151.
They didn't intend for you to find it. it was just there as a safety net, in case something went wrong.

It would be really sad if Nintendo ran out of ideas for Pokemon. I'm starting to like the Pokemon games more and more, because of the increasing addition of puzzles and crazy ways to capture the legendaries. The only thing I hate about them is the fact that it's almost impossible to get Pokemon like Mew and Lugia, what with all the promotional events in the opposite hemisphere. What about us Australians?

Kurai, companies don't accept many ideas from outside sources. This is usually because they're afraid of lawsuits; "You stole my idea!!!!"

As for the games, I don't know one Pokemon player who didn't fall in love with every region. They need to get on the ball, experiment a little more with gameplay options, then stuff everything into one game, with neat ways of getting there, and few limitations.

Let's face it; if the freedom of the world was actualized in the game like it's supposed to, you could go anywhere you wanted in the world on your adventure, and collect badges at any time. There would be no limitations on when you could Surf or Fly (except having to find them), etc., etc.

I'm sure you get my point.

I think we deserve a Gamecube, or a Wii title that has every single world (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Orre) all rolled into one, and able to play every single gym leader and catch every single Pokemon without trading.

I can imagine it. It'll be the hero starting in Orre, the receiving news that a new Train system has linked Orre to Hoenn Kanto, and Jhoto. Gym leaders were set up in Orre, so he'll battle those first, and work backwards. There will be an Elite 4 for each region. Fun.

And basically unlimited replay value. They've created all these great worlds, but never really combined them other than with trading. I know you should have friends to trade with, but it's really not all that realistic unless you and your friend go into a joint venture where, for example, one of you buys Ruby and the other Sapphire.

With a huge game like the one suggested, it makes "Catching them all" much easier.

That's what I did, but he just rants about how he gets to see contest Pokemon 'just screaming to be painted'. I entered my Blaziken in a winning Cool Contest and it got painted, although it did have maximum coolness and a red scarf. I'm trying to do it with a Regirock with no scarf and half-full toughness.

I remember how excitied I got when I saw the first movie. I kept thinking 'That's so cool!' As I've gotten older I've changed my opinion. I think the original games are still ok. I don't enjoy them as much as I used to, but it can still be fun.

If I think about pokemon, then it's games like Red and Blue that I had ages ago, rather than the current games. Any new pokemon games would be low down on my games list. I guess pokemon was just one of those things that was cool for awhile, then left. It was for me anyway.

I liked those Red and Blue games so much, I bought the Leafgreen Revival game. With better graphics and more places to explore, it's a much better game than those old ones.

Yeah, in a way they are the best. I like the original because the 150 pokemon were relatively easy to memorize and there wasn't much trading that had to be done.

Ruby and Sapphire had a great world to explore, though.

Actually, Red/Blue and Gold/Silver had 10 Pokemon in each version which you gad to trade for to have them in the other version, whilst Ruby/Sapphire have only 8 of those Pokes.

I'd probably say Gold/Silver was my favourite. It had a good amount of pokemon, not too many or too little. Plus there was the Night and Day settings which were good. It's a shame that I got Silver shortly before I lost interest in pokemon. I'd have probably played it more if I hadn't.

But in Ruby/Sapphire you can trade with Leafgreen/Firered to get all 350 pokemon. So there actually was a lot more trading needed to be done in those games.

Yeah, 250 is a bit much. That's where Leafgreen goes wrong. You have so many Silver/Gold pokemon to catch and only two islands to do it on. It's nearly impossible.

I actually played pokemon for YEARS, until I got older and started to realise that it wasn't worth my time anymore. And I wasn't really talking about the game, I was talking about the show and movies, which i'm glad to see most people see it from my point of view as well.

Crystal version was always my personal favorite, due to the moving sprites, mostly. A shame they didn't incorporate that into the later versions of the games. :blink:

Had the game stolen from me two years ago... it had my entire breeding stock in it. v.v I had one Celebi (my friend got it, traded it to me, and then the game got stolen. x.x), two 16th-generation Tyranitars, three 23rd-generation Dragonites, one 17th-generation Alakazam, and one 14th-generation Blissey. x.x They rocked, but I lost 'em all; good stats, breedable moves, and everything. (I raised each one of those parents to level 100, too... :( )

Fire Red/Leaf green was... alright. Nothing spectacular. They tried to cram too much into one game, though.

My Fire Red version for the gb color was probably the only game I had for it,but that was...(counts)...probably...six years ago.Most of my pokemon were lvl. 100.

According to Serebii.net and numerous other sources, there's a whole bunch of Pokemon dolls which were programmed into the game, but nobody knows how to get ahold of them. I'm betting it has something to do with Diamond & Pearl, because they say that you can transfer your GBA Pokemon to the DS games.

Emerald does have animated sprites, although most of them are pretty crap. They're also a bit annoying since they add to the already long waiting period before the menu appears and you can finally make your move. You can deactivate them by turning off the Battle Animations.

Naw. Many games have preprogrammed items that eventually don't get placed into the game. From Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, for example, Prince rennign had a sprite, but died before he made an appearance. Zelgius had a character with Stats, but never made it into the game either. GS debug room was like that too, I beleive.

That's what I'm thinking. The sprites overworld are going to be a little harder to rip. The battle sprites are going to keep me busy for a long time. Pokemon's doing pretty well.

The other thing I want to see is something to do with the baby pokemon. I would be even happier if they just scrapped all of them, but since they won't do that, then they should put more emphasis on them, for example a Gym where you can only use baby pokemon.

At the moment, there are about 10 or more baby pokemon in the game, who serve no purpose whatsoever apart from making you waste time breeding and hatching them for them to fill up your pokedex. :/

What about put in the DayCare Center, for instance, a Ninetales and a Magcargo(yes, they can get an egg from them in Ruby and Sapphire) and get a whole diferent Pokemon! Something that is made of lava and has a rock shell like Magcargo, but has legs and nine tales like, er, Ninetales. Then you would experiment with a lot of Pokes to see what you can get! That would change the game enough for me!!

NO! That's not the battery's fault! It's known as the Berry Glitch, and it occurs when you've had your game for a while. You can correct it by buying a copy of the Red/Blue remakes and doing something fancy. It's in the back of the manual.

You could do that, they also had the berry fix in stores for a while, you could hook up your GBA, and update it. Or if you have the bonus disc for Pokemon Colleseum, you can update it with that as well.

Yeah, I know it could be fixed, it's just that I don't really care anymore. The glitch started a long time after I've stopped playing the game actively, and it doesn't change the game a lot anyway. Also, I don't think I can fix it anymore since I don't have FireRed/LeafGreen and I'm not going to buy them, I don't have Pokemon Colloseum either and where I am none of the stores ever did the hooking up and fixing thing as they did in America.

You know, after playing through Pokemon several times, I would say that the Fire type is the one of the least needed type for the game. I mean, although you need that type quite a bit, most of the other types work in more situations than Fire.

I really hate it, since the Fire type is one of the best in Pokemon. Charizard, Blaziken, Typhlosion, and Arcanine, for example...they were awesome. What sucked was the fact that Moltres is one of the most useless Pokemon in the game. It would only be useful if it's your only Fire Pokemon that has good stats. If you have any other Fire type, Moltres automatically loses its usefulness by a lot. D=

Well, I said Fire was ONE of the most uneeded types. Also, it's not the fact about being super effective against types or anything like that, it's just that, for some reason, a lot of other types have more uses than the Fire type does, for some reason. D= The only types that are less useful are Normal (exception of Snorlax), Bug (exception of Scyther, Scissor, and Heracross), and Rock, in my opinion.

Ok, three three best Bug Pokemon are: Scyther, Scissor, and Heracross. Scyther and Scissor are just very powerful and have very nifty aabilities. Heracross is the only Pokemon that learns Bug's best attack: Megahorn. =D

I agree with most of this, but fire is super effective against Ice, Steel, Grass, and Bug. That's four types, and that's pretty good. Fire is also very strong, and have a wide variety of strong moves. But what's this about the monley and Rapidash being the only fire types in D/P?

Fire doesn't tend to be useful at first, but becomes more useful later. Like Toasty said, if it can beat those types, it is pretty good.

Just as fire has many strengths, it has many weaknesses. Water, Rock, and Ground are super effective against it. Additionally, It's poor against Dragon.

Now. I pair my Fire types with Dragons, so that the Fire melts the Ice and the Dragons are the Shield to Water, Rock and Ground given that the movesets are fitting. A lot of good strategies can be issued to those two types working as a tag-team.

Plus that almost every team has a Ground, Rock or Water type. Or just something else to screw over Fire types. Rock Slide and Earthquake are very populair moves for physical sweepers, and they'll take Fire down in no time. Fire is only good when it's typed up with some other type.

Oh and gsninja, Rhydon can learn Megahorn to. XD

Btw, MD. I think it's alot better for Dragon's to give them Rock Slide instead of a Fire move. Ice types are mainly weak agains physical attacks. And for the likes of Articuno, it does 4x damage to it. Also you can take down some other flying types with it. And dragons are just plain better in Attack then in Sp.Atk. ^_^

Time for an update on D/P. As you are probably aware, the game was released in Japan a while back. According to Serebii.net, here's what you can expect when the game is released in English.

- There are 106 new Pokémon, including the three 'promotionals' at the end of the Pokedex. There are now 493 Pokémon, with 445 available and 420 in each game.

- Pokémon from the Advance generation of games will be transferable, though not directly. They must be re-captured in the Pal Park, using special Poké Balls with a 100% success rate, so as soon as you encounter them they're yours. Some Pokémon appear rarer than others. You can only transfer a party of six per day. It is currently unknown whether this transfer is permanent, or if the Pokémon is simply duplicated.

(also, when a GBA cartridge is inserted along with D/P, certain Pokémon appear in new areas, depending on its version)

- Your new PokéGadget (the Pokétch) will feature over twenty different functions, unlockable through story progression and certain events, including a clock, a calculator, a drawing pad, a virtual pedometer, a built-in itemfinder, a simple counter device, a standard map, a virtual coin flipper, a type compatibility chart, a calendar, a timer and a Pokétch colour changer.

- The time of day feature has made a big comeback. The game's atmosphere steadily changes with the time. There is Morning (dull), Daytime (bright), Afternoon (orange), Evening (dark blue, with lights on) and Night (darker blue, with lights off). There will undoubtedly be time-based events within the game.

- There are some new evolutionary methods. Gender evolution, where Pokemon evolve differently or not at all depending on their gender. Item Evolution, where you give your Pokémon a hold item and raise it to a certain level, and sometimes at a certain time. Area Evolution, where a Pokémon will evolve only in a certain area. This includes Eevee's new forms Leafia and Glacia. Attack Evolution, where a Pokémon evolves if it knows a certain attack and grows a level. And Partner Evolution, a single case in which a Temanta evolves into Mantine when it shares the party with a Remoraid. The Remoraid will still remain.

- Pokémon Contests have become Super Contests. There are now several new forms of Judgement. Visual (in which you spruce up your Pokémon with wigs, necklaces, boots, crowns, etc), Dance (a rhythm-based minigame), and Performance (the second round of the original Pokémon contests).

- Battles have changed quite a bit. The action is displayed on the upper screen, with commands available in a large menu on the touch screen. Techniques are now actually shown to be Physical, Special or Other. Each move is seperately classified as one of these three catagories, instead of relying on the type of the move itself. The Other catagory applies to all non-aggresive abilities and attacks which deal a set amount of damage, or random damage.

- There are several new berries. As well as their obvious uses, they can also be used to make Pofin (or PokéBread). Berries are mixed into the dough, then it is mixed into bread using the touch screen. Your speed will determine the level of the finished bread. It can then be fed to your Pokémon to raise its visual attributes, just like PokéBlocks.

- The PokéDex is also different. The layout has been given an overhaul, but all the standard features (Info, Area, Cry, Height, Weight) are still present. However, the Cry menu now allows you to change the speed and pitch of the cry, and there is also a Reverb/Filter knob. With the Height and Weight menus, you can actually input your personal values to achieve a more accurate comparison. It should produce some interesting results when you punch in ridiculously large numbers. :D

This game makes PERFECT use of all the DS's features, and I can feel this game will be pretty lengthy considering 400+ Pokemon. I'm really gonna enjoy this.

As for the transferring, I'm gonna have to live with it. I'll transport Pokemon that are bred specifically for battle and hold no sentimental value to me. (..X3)

I recent played through Fire Red and Ruby due to a state of severe boredom when I was approaching exam time (fark studying). Pretty enjoyable games. I'd never get into the merchandise, pay for the games or discuss them with people, but it was a good way to kill a few hours.
