After the first guy, they all went up a level.
I ALMOST beat the ground lady, but she beat me with her Sudowoodo at just a few HP.

I'll attmept again later with Dialga in place of Machoke, even though machoke has much better fighting moves than lucario. My machokes stats just really suck. I'm also going to train a Magikrap 'till it evolves, but I'm looking for a good nature. Any suggestions?

It would be a good idea to use Dialga. It would also be highly useful to use one or two of the Lake Spirits as well (Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit).

Go with Adamant for your Gyrados Toasty. It'll turn him into a crazed killing machine in no time. Its special attack sucks anyway, so you may as well dump that stat and just have him know all physical moves. The only disadvantage to this is that hyper beam is special, so you'll probably want to teach it Giga Impact with a TM.

It'll also help if you can find a really low level Magikarp and Exp. Share it up to 20. I laugh at the people that catch level 20 Magikarp and wonder why their Gyrados sucks.

I have three at the moment, 2 lvl 5's and one lvl 4. I don't think any of them have an admant nature though. It'd be even better if it were possible to get a lvl 1 Gyarados though, but I'm pretty sure that's impossible. >_o

If you're reffering to watch I'm pretty sure he has Azekf and uxie on his team. He mentioned that he has the 2 pokemon that 'stayed in the caverns' which are Azelf and Uxie, as Mesprit flees.

If you want to actually do work, (A condition that I find it difficult to concieve of.) You could just leave and go to a pokecenter after you own the Galactic boss to retrieve your Seasel. Or you could leave it behind alltogether. Dialga has a 30% catch rate and dusk balls are active at the pillar. I caught it while its health was still in the yellow.

Your Lucario is still quite weak, and you could just use moves that don't have STAB, or ones that Dialga is resistant to. Give him some credit, Dialga is tough enough to stand a little punishment.

Yes you can. I traded a Bulbasaur to my sister who's barely scratched the surface of the game. The Sinnoh Dex just won't record them until you get the Nat. Dex.

natures don't affect EVs, but they boost/lower 2 of your pokemons stats. For example Adamant nature boosts attack but lowers Sp.Attk, so its good for pokemon that just use physical attacks like Machamp. Some natures don't boost or lower any stats.

Go right from Florama town and then get in the water and surf left and upwards. There's nothing much there apart from a few trainer battles, some wild evolved pokemon (Floatzel, Golduck etc I think) and some TMS and items in the actual Ironworks (Including TM Flamethrower)

Dude, You are so insecure of yourself. Just grab a lvl 2 Bidoof and teach it surf and be gone. Do you really think your level 40 team can't stand up to a wild Floatzel?

And the pokemon are about lvl 30 Max. You can go there anytime after getting surf, so around level 25 I would say.

You could probably take the at least the last gym judging by your levels but instead you're here farting around trying to train up so that you can be at least 10 levels higher than the gym or whatever you said you wanted to be.

Sorry If I'm sounding harsh but it does sound a bit ridiculous when you say "I can't go because 1 of my pokemon sucks"


The way I play the game, I'm usually always wandering around with a level 6 starly (with Fly) or a level 4 Pachirasu (with cut), or some random Geodude (with Strength). I never teach any HM moves to my pokemon apart from Surf and Rock Climb because they're the only 2 decent ones to use in battle. Also, I rely on items more than levels. Why bother training up loads if you can just fully heal your team during a battle?

Its not even if the gym leaders are hard in this game, Most of em only have 3 pokemon.

I'm off to challenge the 8th leader with a team that my highest level is 38 and my lowest is 34.

Although I'm training up my new pokes I've bred from GSninja's first. The only one I can't train up is Claydol, because I have nothing to breed it with.

Might need someone to do an IV battle later if possible.

Battle Tower gets boring after a while. My record right now is 42 and I got bored around there because it's always the same thing. At least with a human opponent, there is some strategy and some surprises.

I'm with Wiffle. Caael, I've gone the entire game without a decent water pokemon. I have a level 20 Azumaril that I caught forever ago so that I could use surf and waterfall. It has no other purpose. I went through all the Mount Coronet boss battles with only four usable pokemon and 2 HM slaves. (Actually I did use them, but only to send them out as patsies to die while I healed someone else.) The bottom line is, you only have 6 pokemon with you. You can't get all the types in there. Your best bet is to just not have two pokemon of the same type, because that's as diversified as your team is going to get. Stick with what works and don't waste your time training up some baby Mudkip just because you think you need it. Try it first, if you're getting owned, then rethink your lineup.

It's not something I do intentionally. I get really angry in an RPG when I cant complete a boss, so I avoic that problem. I was so annoyed when I couldn't beat Fantina the first time, I didn't touch the game for a week.

That's the problem; if the game would keep me stocked with training so i'm high enough for the next part anyway, I wouldn't have a problem. But there's such a small gap between areas, I train loads. Snowpeak was fine ( though the gym was easy anyway) because there was a big area to get through, and my levels had got higher naturally, so I didn't need to train.

Part of the reason I train loads on pokemon, is because the only other pokemon game I had was Blue, and theres loads of new types and moves, weaknesses. Berries and eggs are entirely new to me, so I overtrain so I know that even if I am using the wrong types, they wont all cop it in a hit.

I'm starting to get suspicious of you. How do you keep getting these Pokemon? Shinies, legendaries... who in there right mind would trade those? I don't even think you can ask for Pokemon in GTS without having somehow seen them before. Unless you battled someone from Japan who happened to have a Demo Darkrai I'm really doubting you actually got it through trade.

Many people have more than one of each type of legendary, shiny, or EV-trained Pokemon. Some people don't want them, even though they have only one of them, so they trade. I get shinies and whatnot because I gather lots of legendaries from my GBA games, get a bunch of Pokemon, EV-train some Pokemon, and trade them. Trust me, you'll get good results when you find the right trades. Then again, half the trades I go through are lucky on my part because the traders didn't ask for things that were too hard to get.

Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus are event legendaries, so you can't find them in-game. Go here: www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/ It has extensive info on every Pokemon to date.

Oh and you should have at least 4 on your team that are the type you want. The others could either be something to fit in with the theme (Banette and Claydol are on mine as they're both pretty evil/creepy) or you could go with something to topple your weaknesses (E.g you're fire, so your weakness is Rock/water, maybe choose an Electric/Grass type?)

If you're specializing in fire, just use a solarbeam TM on at least one of your team. A surprising number of fire pokemon can learn it, and it allows you to have a good laugh over the smouldering ruins of your opponents when they try to be smart and bring out a grass or rock type.

I'm not happy. I've been trying to capture Azleaf, but I just can't. I paralize it, I get it down to a sliver of health, and throw ultra ball after ultra ball, and nothing works. It won't stay in the damn ball.

Using a Master Ball on Azelf is a big waste. Use it on Mesprit or Cresselia, which are two runaway Pokemon, just like Raikou, Suicune, and Entei. I was lucky when I fought Azelf, since I caught it on my second Dusk Ball in my first fight.

It's better to wait until night to catch it, though, because the Dusk Ball will get both the night bonus and the cave bonus.

Are you sure? I thought it's max was a 4X capture rate if you had just one of the two factors. But I've had trouble with both Azelf and Uxie. 1 health and still won't capture. 'Course I don't try to slap them with a condition.

Groudon has Solarbeam. That coupled with his ability is why I want him. Draw in the water types with a weak (type wise) ground type, then blast 'em away with solar beam. Even if they have a Uber, I wouldn't mind much.

Shaymin is an event only pokemon, so you must have used a code or something to allow you to get it.

Your Pokemon are automatically boosted to level 100 in the Level 100 Wi-Fi battles.

Uxie was really easy for me to catch. I caught it while it's health was orange, on my 3rd Ultra Ball. Maybe I was just lucky. Azelf was still a ***** though.

As for Mesprit, I used Rapidash to use Fire Spin so that it couldn't escape. I fled before it would faint, then I ran after him and used Quick Balls before it would escape. (it keeps the health even after battle) Upon my 4th ecounter I got it.

Yeah, that still works. It's why I want Groudon. His ability causes sunshine, so solar beam doesn't even need to charge, and I don't even need him to use sunny day for it to take effect.

Right now, my team is severely weak against ground and fighting types, as I have only one poke to counter both of those. And I need my fire guys from FR and Ruby. I really need to get rid of some steel types, but all of my steel types are dual typed, and have a lot beter growth rates than the rest of my pokes.

There are lots of wild Golbat in Victory Road that know Mean Look. You can use Dusk Balls to catch them and most of them are faster then Mesprit.

@ Escout don't use Golbat for Mean Look. Since Mesprit is Psychic (and knows the move of the same name) it can own Golbat as a Poison/Flying type.

Use Rapidash and his Fire Spin instead. It worked better for me.

Dawn Stone evolves Kirlia and Snorunt into what I forget. (Only the male and females, respectively, of each. Don't ask me how that works.)
Shiny Stone evolves Roselia to Roserade.
Oval Stone evolves Hapinny to Clefairy. (But only if it's obnoxiously happy, so start coddling!)

Regardless, use your dowsing machine while surfing the pond in Tiwleaf Town to find an Odd Keystone. Put it in the broken tower on Route 209, and then talk to 32 other players Underground (you can talk to the same person more than once, but you have to go inside of a base after each conversation or it won't count.) Then, return to the broken tower and Spiritomb will eat your soul and steal all of your cookies. Catch him if you can.

After you beat the Elite 4 for the first time and the credits roll and you start in your room again. Go down stairs and your mother tells you that your rival wants you to go to Snowpoint City and take the boat there. I found that irksome also. It's like the game is taking time to calculate what exactly is going to happen, but I find that hard to believe. Particularly because in R/S and Fr/Lg on the GBA, your orders followed action practically immediately, but D/P is on a better system.

Yea Wd's right. It's just plain slow. I have text speed on fast and animations off. Battles just take way too long.

I've never noticed or cared about that. I just select my moves and fight.

But all of my "battle trained" pokes have attack moves only, so that's a disadvantage sometimes, but I've been able to predict what happens next in battles after the first few turns most of the time. It's just a matter of deciphering the patterns and strategy that your opponent uses. Almost all of the time, your opponent will switch pokes for type matching (i.e. you have water against his/her fire, so he/she'll switch it out for a grass or electric). The only exception is when they don't have any to counter your type, in which case they'll probably send out a type that won't recieve 2X damage, or has at least one move that can be used against your type. Or if your poke is at low health and you opponent is faster and has a garunteed chance of KO'ing you.

A nice way to take advantage of an opponent who switches a lot (and if you know all of their pokes) is to predict what type they will switch to next, and then switch to a type that is strong against what you think your opponent will switch to. For instance you might have out a fire type, and your opponent might have out a grass type. He'll probably switch to a water (which is more common) or to a rock-ground or ground (most rock types are coupled with a ground type, which is 4X weak to water, but it's probably more likely to be used than a ground type for reasons unkown, as it's type matchup is pretty bad). You should switch to a grass type over an electric type as two of the three most likely types to be used are immune to electric attacks.

Of course, your opponent may think even further ahead and predict that you'll bring out a grass type, so he'll bring out a flying or fire type. You will rarely, if ever, see that happen as it's very risky, but it's a reason to bring out the electric type instead of the grass.

And so ends my battle strategy seminar. :P

@FD I've looked at Rune Factory, and it looks pretty decent. I don't know if I'd buy it though, not enough info for me.

Sure, since Shellos is half ground and half water (I think) it's impervious to electric attacks, but twice as vunerable to grass attacks, so be careful.
