I think that having downloadable stafes/trophies/etc. would'nt be pointless. I know alot of people who I'm sure would want that, and, adding that feature would increase the replay value. That's what makes it NOT pointless in my opinion.

The trophy collection wasn't really part of the replay value for SSBM, so I don't see why it would be for SSBR. At least for me anyway.

I never viewed the trophies to find out the weaknesses and moves of fighters. I found it much more interesting to fight with them and figure out their stats on my own. But I loved looking at my trophies and reading character backgrounds. I used to spend a lot of time trying to get one particular trophy.

That's what the internet is for. There really is no absolute reason to collect the trophies other than to 100% the game.

On an interesting note, there was supposed to be an arena dedicated solely for Fire Emblem, a location called Akanea. It actually can be accessed in the game's Debug mode.

If you pick it, it freezes.

I think it wasn't included simply because they were being rushed at the end of the devolpment cycle. I excpect it to be in SSBR though.

Okay, on the back of the first super smash bros it talked about each stage having different dangers. I was slightly dissapointed with numer 2 not maintaining that. Do you think they'll be back in all the stages in revolution?

Some of the stages in SSBM still had 'hazards' such as Corneria which had ships flying by shooting at you. I think this would count as what you call 'dangers'.

What are you talking about Earthbrand? Every arena in SSBM had 'Dangers'. Just look at Princess Peaches Castle. Bullet Bill anyone? And what about the Ice Climbers level? That was very dangerous what with the camera moving up and down. And so on and so on...

Well, me and my friends always use FD to duke it out and test skills. Battlefield is also a good place for that, even though it is a bit small.

Except when your at high % and your opponent is at low you can still easly win by just going down and backthrow your opponent in the oppening. No Hyrule isnt great either, the most "fair" stage is FD but still projectile spammers have an advantage there.

I'm not sure if I like Hyrule Temple with only two people, but it is the best in 4P mode. FD is my favorite and it should definitely be in the next game, maybe without having to unlock it.

IMO Hyrule Temple is the best stage for ANY regular battles. Big Blue is another favorite of mine as long as I'm using Kirby. Same with Poke' Floats as BB. Downloadable levels would also be a great addition as well. But if you pay attention, the battlefield level has low gravity. Not sure if you could call that a 'hazard' or not.

But Nintendo better not call the rev the Wii....that would just be suicide.

It's a forgone conclusion that the system will be called Wii. There's very little chance of that changing. I would start getting used to it, Toasty, the name is going to stay.

And WD, the only way I get consols is by negotiating with my parents. Like when I wanted the GC for Christmas a few years back, I just asked that if I kept my room clean for the 3 months (if cleaned, it's usually dirty after 3 days) leading up to it, if they would buy me it.Works every time for me. :rolleyes: I can usually even get them to cut some slack, but that's just cause I know the right things to say at the right time. And these people are not usually easy to negotiate with.

Wind Dude, a price drop for the GameCube is expected fairly soon (to about $79.99, possibly) so that might be the ideal time.

But of course, if you plan on getting a Nintendo Wii at launch, then saving up is probably the better option. Besides, it's backward compatible. I guess it all depends on how long you're willing to wait.

Now then, back to the next Super Smash Brothers.

Actually, I'm starting to have my doubts now.

The reasons are as follows:
- When Nintendo announced that the next SSB would be ready by launch, there was little to no development of that game at the time. In fact, the director of the Super Smash Brothers games (whose name I can't quite remember now) didn't even know about the title until it was announced at the E3 2005 conference. Iwata later approached him and asked him if he would be willing to work.

- It was mentioned sometime ago that Nintendo would need to enlist outside help from another game company if it was to be able to meet the Revolution's launch.

- It's not present at E3 on the show floor, nor was it even mentioned during the conference (not even a press release)

- The new Super Mario title and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are now two of the system's major launch titles. Launching the next SSB at the same time would simply compete with those titles.

My expectations: Either Nintendo is waiting until later this year (Tokyo Game Show? A Spaceworld?) to reveal SSB or the title just isn't ready yet. I expect Mario and Zelda to be the killer launch titles for 2006, and to follow in 2007 are Metroid Prime 3 and SSB.

EDIT: Ahh. Apparently Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a launch title for Wii too!

Smash Bros Brawl was announced this evening, and it's going to be an online game of 2007, no longer launch. More single player, and you also get to play as Pit from Kid Icaruss, Suitless Samus( from Metroid Zero mission), Meta Knight from Kirby, and Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Yeah, Kojima actually begged them to throw in Snake, that's just so awesome. Now they're talking with other third parties as well( namely Sega). It's widescreen too. I mean, Wario, Meta Knight... Cool!! Those are two of the few characters that I thought HAD to be added. I also understand why they put Pit(though he is a crap character). Shigeru said he's making a Kid Icarus for Wii. Samus without her suit... I don't like it. That metal has become her SKIN!! Though I guess that isn't too bas if she was armorless in Zero Mission. And I assure you, Fox, DK and Zelda, all of which are very well known and popular characters, will be in this game. But Solid Snake... The worst thing that could have happened to the Smash Bros. franchise... Adding other companies characters. This isn't what the first SSB and Meele were about! This game is just a marketing ploy now, also made to make ties with other companies better for Nintendo! And there is no way Konami asked Nintendo to put their character in, it was the other way round! Am I the only one who noticed Konami doesn't like Ninty? They very rarely make games for Nintendo consoles. Oh, and I'll bet my life that Sonic and Tails are playable too. This is very low of you Nintendo...

BLL hit it right on the head. Metal Gear, before Solid, was all about Nintendo.

Kojima begged to have snake put in, as the head of the development studio. Nintendo consoles aren't profitable for Konami, so making a Wii or Gamecube game would be a bad move business wise, but that doesn't mean Kojima doesn't want to. So, he did the next best thing. He tried to get his character onto a Nintendo console without Konami, and he almost did it with Melee, but he couldn't, he came in too late, so he convinced Silicon Knights to make a gamecube port of Metal Gear Solid. And this time, he approached the SSB team early enough that they could add Snake.

I know they didn't show them, but who knows, mabey Isaac and Felix are in too. I guess we'll just have to wait till theyopen the characters link on SSBDojo, or until the game comes out.

I am not confident taht GS will be in SSBB. What I am confident in is that all the other characters got makeovers even if it was just a tiny polish. Did you see that authentic leather on Mario? Fox should be wearing his Assault armour and all. I think that the new capabilities of this game should be influenced by new wardrobe changes. That Metal Gear Solid stuff was genius, for the record.

Closing comment: Wario seriously needs to lighten the bean load.

That trailer was amazing. The graphics, the overall presentation. Phenomonal, and the music too.

What concerns me, however, is that the director stated that he would prefer the controls of the GameCube game, meaning that support of the Wii controller is, unusually, unlikely... at least for now.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time for the DS was the same way. So far, I haven't seen a single use of the Touch Screen in the game.

Yes, but the video i.... disturbing. Warios fart attack will be a charge attack, I know that. The list probably will be added too, as it doesn't have half the characters it should. 5 new characters is not enough. they should include more... known characters. Meta knight I have to admit, all I know is he's from Kirby. We all know that there will be new pokemon in there, no doubts there. And in the IGN video, there was a Nintendog that popped up on screen. This probably an item or something, but if anybody know anything else about this random dog, plase tell.

Although it would be awesome for SSBB to come out fully completed and not rushed in November, I'm sure we all know it's not likely ;) . As for the price, Nintendo did say their games would be cheaper than this, but it will be a very popular game since it's in a very popular series. But we can't be sure that this will be the sell price just yet. There's always that bit of "wiggle room".

I'd like to bring up the point that Wii is already launching with Zelda and Metroid. Adding in another powerful franchise at launch would do wonders, but only for the short-term. Nintendo should, and will, have it for a 2007 release, to ensure the best quality and also to raise hype for the game.

The same occurred with Twilight Princess; there was tremendous hype for it when it was first unveiled at E3 2004, things slowly died down, especially when Nintendo announced the delay, but ever since it's been announced as a launch title, and using the Wii controller, people are getting excited again.

To go back on topic, do you think that the inclusion of Snake is a sign that Nintendo is negotiating for other third party characters, or was it done just as a favor to Hideo Kojima?

In answer to your question, GL, I think they did it as a favor to Kojima. He wanted Snake in the game and I think Nintendo gave him what he had been looking for. However, now that Snake is in, there is a legit case for Sonic since third-party characters seem to be in.

I think Snake fits in quite well, since this game has a lot of different character styles. Also, all the new characters shown will have new fighting styles. Snake will use bombs and his trusty cardboard box.

In my opinion, Third Party characters will be a good and bad thing. Good as they'll have new characters with new abilities, and they'll be bringing in more people. Bad as it'll be less of a Nintendo game and more general.

Ahem! Anyway, what I found the most shocking news was to find out is that Snake is in it. I just wish they would put in Bomberman, Stafy (from the Legend of Stafy series or also known as Densetsu No Stafy), Mallow, Geno, Diddy Kong, Marill (from Pokemon) and Dixe Kong. Hopefully they at least choose one of the characters I listed.

Another thing that's kind of sad to hear is that the game might not come out as a launch title anymore. I don't personal mind it much but I just hope they fix up the graphics up a bit more.(I mean really! Kirby didn't get much of a face lift compared to the other characters and I found his character model really low tech. See his arms if you want to know my pain. And Link's face looks terrible! Face lift for Link coming right up! Yeah, I am a Kirby and Link fan.)

My hopes for this game includes being able to customize battles. Examples are like what kind of HP amount should be given to the characters or defeat this person before the others do. I also want more Event matches and I also want a even bigger adventure mode. I also hope they keep the old Melee characters as well(especially Yoshi, he rocks!)

Super Smash Brothers Melee is the highest selling game of GameCube, period. It has sold well over four million copies worldwide.

Resident Evil 4 sold reasonably well, and could be considered a hit, especially considering that the GameCube is supposedly a "kid's console". I recall sometime last year that it had sold 1.23 milion units worldwide (something like 600,000 in North America, 350,000 in Europe, and 200,000 in Japan, which doesn't quite add up, but it's close). So it's certainly sold through more, but probably hasn't broken two million units.

Simply put, Super Smash Brothers is now one of Nintendo's most powerful franchises. It's worth noting, however, that Sakurai mentioned that he was only barely persuaded to return to work on Brawl. Why not? Marill is really popular AND the Ruby and Sapphire Pokemon weren't that popular according to other Pokemon fans. I think it was because of their character designs? Marill has a better chance than Ruby and Sapphire Pokemon in my opinion. But yeah, I do agree that Diddy is a must have.

Yeah, I also think that Melee Item is a excellent idea for this version. Mario's Firball and Links Rapid Slashes are really amazing. I especialy liked Kirby's Move. Mario got Burned!!! The only thing I hated was Wario's retard fart. They shouldn't include that move for the game as his move set. That was a dumb idea! Whats next? Nick character because they fart?!? Hopefully we will never see Wario's fart ever again.

As far as Melee characters are concerned, I can all but guarantee that they will be back. It's basically an upside pyramid effect as far as the characters are concerned. They add on to the bases of the previous games, not getting rid of the ones that were in the last games. We will see the SSBM characters in the next game.

Marill wouldn't be really a good addition because he just has nothing to add into the game and he's just a random Pokemon. The only Pokemon they should include is Blaziken since he atleast has fighting style which suits SSBB.

If they did remove mayor characters of the prev Smash I would be really disapointed. I wouldn't mind if they got ridd of Pichu, Doc, Young Link and those sorta characters but what would really ruin it is removing characters like Donkey Kong or Yoshi. But I didn't mind replacing them or making unique movesets for them altough that would be kinda hard.

Also, Nintendo would prefer having at least one character represent a major franchise. For example, they can afford to not include Dr. Mario or Pichu, because they have plenty of other Mario and Pokemon characters. But removing, say, Captain Falcon would mean that there is no character from the F-Zero series, removing Donkey Kong would mean the same thing, etc.

The reason I suggested Marill was because I think he is great and powerful Pokemon (It's true! I wiped out the elite four with him) AND we need a water type attacker. I mean we already have enough Fire hitting and Thunder smacking characters on the game. We need more water base attackers. I don't mind if Marill doesn't get to be a playable character as long as a character with water based attacks gets in. Hopefully they at least still keep him as a Pokemon that comes out of the PokeBall.

Well, as far as the Poke' Balls go (if they still include them), they will either 1) Keep the old ones and add new ones; 2) Toss the old ones and put new ones in; or 3) Not have any Poke' Balls at all. And I doubt they will put Marill in as a playable character. I also don't really care much about if there are not enough watever afinity fighters, I just want a couple GS characters in there, along with some worthy 3rd party characters, and to keep all of the characters except (see previous post of mine).

Old characters they should be thrown out are Doctor Mario first of all, then Pichu, Roy and maybe Falco. I didn't say Peach or Jigglypuff even though they are cr!p characters because they have unique fighting styles. Young Link is too important and popular to remove, as is Ganondorf. Falco isn't well known enough to be in the game and neither is Roy. Doctor Mario MUST be removed, since Luigi has simillar attacks to Mario and we don't need another Mario copy-cat.

I wish they added Ridley, I really do. He would be awesome! And Black Shadow(F-Zero), Wolf(StarFox) and Olimar(Pikmin) should all be there. Oh, yeah, and Isaac of course.
Before E3 came I thought the two characters they must put in are Wario and Diddy. I love both of them and they are very popular.

Please, everyone, stop worrying about whether or not DK and Yoshi are gonna be included! They will, they are some of Nintendo's most important characters, end of story.

Yeah I know about DK and Yoshi, they'll stay but they where just examples.
The one fighter I really worry about is Peach. Man she's a godness in SSBM. It would be a waste to lose a character as unique as her.

Still I don't think Marill is suited. Marill just don't has the physics of a fighter. Neither does Jigglypuff but Jigglypuff atleast is very populair (atleast in Japan) and has been around much longer. Sure you can beat the Elite Four with Marill, but only if it's lv 100 and alot of others can do that to. Marill is just not suited... Sorry.

Aqua sorry but Young Link isn't that much of a great character. He's basically just like Dr. Mario. Just the same character as the base char but only with other stats. And having Link TP style means that Zelda and Ganon will be TP style aswell. I dunno if Sheik is gonna be in Twilight Princess and I highly doubt that so I don't think she'll be in SSBB. Young Link isnt in Twilight Princess so I doubt he'll return.

I've actually heard some convincing theories that the character Young Link will be replaced somehow to fit the look of Wind Waker/Four Swords/Phantom Hourglass (the new DS game). So, we'll have the adult Link from Twilight Princess, and we'll have a version of Young Link representing the more recent games.

Along with this theory is that Zelda will also have a Young Zelda counterpart, perhaps even Tetra from Wind Waker.

Oh yeah. And what about Vaati? I think he'd be a cool addition.

Shiek's in TP. Probably Zelda will just don the Sheikah cloak, but have a shiek moveset with different graphics. Young Link will be the same except developed to look be WW Link, I'm suspecting.

Golden Sun can't compare to the traditional games like Fire Emblem and Zelda or the classics like Kid Icarus and Ice Climbers. They already had a launch appearance. It is more fitting, really. WW Link is a Young Link with a hookshot, bow, and bombs. I bet his taunt will wave the Wind Waker around.

Definitely, I'm glad you both agree. This way, both Link and a WW/Young Link would have unique movesets, instead of being just variations of one another, and plus adds more unique qualities.

As for taunts, that's a good idea, about waving the Wind Waker around, although I actually think that might be a good idea for a grab (hold the enemy in place with wind, while WW Link "conducts" and damages him? Just an idea.)

I shudder to think what type of taunt Wario would have.

But definitely, for (Adult) Link, his taunt should be sheathing his sword, just as he did at the end of the first ever trailer for Twilight Princess.

Mabey instead of fire arrows, WW/young link would have light arrows. Those would be awesome. Kirby's taunt would stay the same, and so would luigi's. Meta knigt's might be slashing his sword around or something, but I don't have a clue for pits, and I'm too afraid to think of Wario's taunt.

For Fox and Falco, how about their Assault victory or secret taunts ("Bring it!" or "Guess that's that!" for Fox; "That was too easy" and "Can't touch me..." for Falco)? Zero Suit Samus should pose as she does in the endings of Metroid games, how about that?

That would look weird because when he finished his taunt, wouldn't he just take his sword out again? I think he should just briefly twirl his sword around in the same fashion as putting his sword away, and then bring his sword up like his usual taunt.

Whenever I'm Game and Watch, and I don't get hit. I just taunt the whole time. It annoys the hell out of everyone! However, most of the time, as a result, I am the first one killed.

You know what's sad? How Ganon showed his sword only for a victory pose. In SSBB, that sword better be there in his moveset!

EDIT: That sword is one of the coolest I've ever seen, btw.

I was wondering... I would like to get a Wii, MOSTLY because of this game's internet play so I can fight you guys, but I don't know how good you are at Melee. Here is some info about me, you can view all of it in-game.

I have played a total of 4153 VS games, most of which are Time.

I have 285 trophies.

When I play alone I usually have three Lv.9 computers, no teams. I usually win. :) I can also beat two teamed up LV.9 CPU's on my own, depending on which character I've chosen. On a good day I can even beat THREE teamed comps. I use dodging quite a lot, though I don't like to grab and throw enemies.

I'm really interested to see something about you guys.
