I can beat two lv. 9 characters with significant effort. (No items of course)

I do a lot of dodging, but I have a hard time following up dodges with a smash attack, usually I get it to work about 4 times out of 10. Also, as my best character is Falco, I'm seriously hindered by my fast falling. I am also proficient as Marth but the lack of long-range attacks leave me vulnerable to my biggest weakness, in-air attacks.

But practice makes perfect, and until 2007, I will be practicing hard whenever I get the chance.

My playstyle is spamming Bairs and waiting for an change to grab. I play DK and when I play Smash I fight my friend's Fox. Playing human players is alot better then fighting computers. By fighting computers you will become predictable, alot of tactics agains computers don't work agains human players so watchout for that.

Like Roy's charge sword. Roy becomes extremely easy to kill in the air against humans, but against computer, he's incredible.

A problem is that it doesn't matter which character you fight, the computer still fights the same agains you. Let's for example pick Link vs Sheik. Sheik is a nightmare for Link but if the Sheik is a computer player she just treaths you like every other character.

I play against real people too! My brother and my friends often play with me. I can't decide who my ultimate fave fighter is, but these are my top five: Falco, Link, Marth, Ness and Jigglypuff.

Man, I so want to play online against you guys!! So who is CERTAINLY getting this? I'm not certainly getting it, but I sure hope I do. I know Toatsy and MD will be getting it and probably SoT and Diddy. Anyone else?

I don't have the game myself but I always play it when I'm over at my friends. I normally choose Link... he can shoot arrows, and I'm an archer fan.
I choose Ness quite a lot too. I've got no strategy though. Just button-bashing. :)

I can fight two lvl. 8's on a team. I've mostly matered dodging, and I'm an expert when it comes to throwing Items. I rarely miss, but I often play with no Items. I havn't played in a while ao I'm not as good as I used to be (three lvl 9's an a team, easy as heck), But I'll be practicing daily till it gets released. Probably even more than Wii games. I'll take on any challenges, since I don't get to go head to head with real people often. Most might be able to beat me at first, but eventually, I'll get better. Much better. That's how it was with SSBM.

[EDIT] Oh yeah, almost forgot, Main character is Roy, it used to be Kirby till I unlocked Roy, I still occasionally use Kirby. I've gotten all the trophies (cheater), and I can beat All Star on Normal.

I agree Game and Watch failed to be a good final character, still what bothered me of Melee is that the chracters Pikachu, Kirby and Ness are sooo downpowered from the first Smash bros. Pikachu is currently below DK in the middle tier and Ness and Kirby are both in the low tier just above Bowser, Mewtwo and Pichu. And I don't teally like that speed dominates everything, I mean the best characters playable are Fox, Sheik and Marth and that;s all beacause of their speed and because of speed you gain comboability.

When my brother plays as Ganondorf he K.O.'s about 20 opponents in a 5 minute period and I almost always lose against him when he is Ganon.

Your totally right, Ness is awesome once you totally mastered him. But like you said every character acts diffrent at each character. You may think Pikachu, Kirby and Ness are awesome. But that doesn't make them better at fighting characters where they have a hard time agains, and the more hard matchup the character has the lower the char is on the tier list. I play Mewtwo a little bit to... well I used to. I liked him alot but that doesn't covers his low speed, expreme floatyness and lack of offensive play. But I also main Donkey Kong, a character thats quite misunderstood and underrated. Don't just pick Sheik because she's the best, just pick a character you feel comfortable with.

Any character can be mastered, but there are some with more potential. I suppose Ness is one of those.

I play SSBM better angry as well. :) I was facing my friend in a 5 life stock match. He was Marth and I was Falco. (Hyrule Temple) I killed him twice in a row without taking anything. Then I lost something and he killed me three straight. Being pissed, I killed him twice more. Than he got me. With one life each, and him with much more damage, I was able to get him once with a smash attack. It was one of the closest match I've seen and one worth remembering.

Marth is probably one of the most underestimated. I'm a Marth user trhough and through. he's gonna look pretty sharp in SSBB.

Marth underestimated? O_O;; Im sorry but that's almost funny. Marth has probarly the best killing potentail. You know his forward air attack right? Well there are people who can do that twice or maybe triple times a row with the shffl (short hop fast fall l-cancel). In NTCS Marth, Fox and Sheik are broken. Sheik can chaingrab many characters till dead (you grab them, throw them en grab them again) if anyone wanna try it's the downthrow and I;ve heard it works best agains Link. I am a happy owner of the PAL version where Marth is weaker and lighter, Fox is lighter and has a worse recovery and Sheik can't chaingrab anyone anymore and her forward air is weaker. Also Yoshi moved from 5th heaviest in NTSC to thirth heaviest under DK and Bowser in PAL. Also Mario is lighter and Bowser is heavier (there isnt much of a diffrence between DK and Bowser in weight in NTSC). And Fox, Sheik and Marth being nerfed Peach is the best character in PAL, being just totally the same as in NTSC.

Roy is my favorite character because of his move set. They're a lot like marth's but a bit slower, and a bit stronger. My friend uses marth, and he's beaten me about 3 times now. Since everyone I play against loses, that means he's a good character, and my friend has skillz . Marth is good, but I just prefer Roy.

Marth is EXCELENT! When I just got the game and I choose to fight as Marth against my bro, he would always laugh and say something like "He's crap". Then he chooses one of his favorites like Ganondorf, Dr. Mario and Captain Falcon and I beat him like 8 out of 10 times. Now, whenever I choose Marth he says "Oh crap!" because he knows he's gonna loose. :)

I used to love Roy, but I just couldn't get the mobility to challenge other characters. I switched to Falco who has superior reach on his smash moves, and I've really benefited. I'm a lot better now.

My brother's a Young Linker. Despite his speed, he still has short range that 9 times out of 10 would end up with a smash blow from the tip of Marth's sword. He's pretty predictable, I'll give you that. I invite you guys to face him online with Wii when BRAWL comes out :)

As for Young Link, if you can get him into the air, that's the best way to get rid of that pesky sword. I love Falco, he owns in the air.

Yeah Jiggly is INDEED a very great character. Her great areal movement and move are probarly the best in the game.

Look that's quitte a few isnt it? Some of them could be simply replaced by newer aged characters of the series like Marth could be replaced and nerfed by adding Ike in his place. Roy could be replaced by another FE char and I think Epharaim would be awesome. Still Im not sure if Marth will leave cause he's the first star of FE and all. Roy however I doubt we'll see him again. There is gonna be a new Earthound game. Perhaps the main role is gonna replace Ness or just join him.

Well since Link is all Twiligt Princess style I guess the Zelda characters should all be like that. Young Link and Sheik are both not in Twilight Princess (Sheik im still not sure) so Young Link would probarly be removed. The Zelda characters from Melee where inspirted from OoT so thats why we had Sheik and Young Link. Do you get it? On a side note, Roy was only included in SSB Melee to advertise for the release of FE6 in Japan. So it's possible that he could be replaced.

But the truth is, Marth and Roy are very popular characters, and that could be a factor in choosing to let them remain in Brawl.

Falco isnt on the list because Fox would then be the solo StarFox character and he's more unique then other clones. Thats why Ganon isnt there on the list to and mainly cuz he will get a new moveset anyway.

Ness and C.Falcon are characters that COULD be removed. Ness is not likely but if Captain Falcon leaves them could give his moveset to a newcomer. Blaziken looks fine for being a C.Falcon clone. :)

Come to think of it, he does. Unless they put a pokemon from pearl/diamond in SSBB, Blaziken will probably be the next one. I really hope Marth and Roy stay, but it looks like I might be able to get used to Metaknight and Pit.

F-Zero is a highly popular franchise, so I doubt they will get rid of C. Falcon.

I think it's better to have Wolf than Falco. Having more bad guys is cool.

I think Mewtwo will be in the game too. He is one of the most popular Pokes and Pokemon fans would be outraged! All they have to do is make him a fast character and power him up a bit.
Also, I think Deoxys would be awesome for SSBB. What with his shape-shifting and evil psychic powers he would make an excelent fighter!

Eliwood was in two games. Ike will be in two games. Roy was in two games. Hector was in two games, so was Karel, Bartre, and Zephiel. Each FE game is just about in a set of two in the same universe. Marth is just the classic character and most famous in Japan. Roy was at the point of revolution for FE towards the GBA. You can bet they're gonna be back and looking better than ever.

I say KEEP all the characters, but design them up to the current games they star in. (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Star Fox ASSAULT, Zelda: The Wind Waker/Zelda: Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance [Fire Emblem FMV-quality for Marth + Roy], etc.)

I see where you're going with the first point you make, but Eliwood, Hector, and Roy, each starred in only one FE game (FE7 for Eliwood/Hector, FE6 for Roy). It's true that they did make an appearance in the other game, but it was only for a brief time, and certainly not a central character in any respect.

But on that note, Ike will be in two games? I presume you're referring to FE10? I don't quite know if that's been confirmed as a direct sequel to Path of Radiance, but it very well could be.

And I completely agree with your latter points; Nintendo should definitely try to keep the characters from Melee, but update them with "modern" movesets, as well as adding in characters.

Does anyone feel that there should be a limit to the number of characters? Somehow, I get the feeling that it might feel too cluttered or overwhelmed with too many.

With that two games in the same universe thing, and the fact that FE10's main character looking identical to an older Sothe, It's logical to assume that it's in Tellius, too. My main point was that there were two games in the same universe, but I was a little too defensive on that point because Marth is my primary character.

On the subject of character cluttering, Nintendo should be more selective of charcters. I say they shouldn't go past 35-40 characters. What I want to see are 1st and 2nd party characters, the classics, the legends. SSB'll probaby stop at Brawl or one or two games beyond.

And how can anyone say "Leave Dr. Mario in the game!"? He is the first character I would throw out, because he hasn't had a game in a long time, he is Mario only in different clothing and his game is a puzzler, where he doesn't have his own moveset.

I too think 40 characters should be the limit. 35 would be perfect if they threw out some Melee ones. But please... No more 3rd party characters! Gyahh!

Ahh, that's so true! I was wondering where I had seen the resemblance. He really does look like an older Sothe, not to mention that the FMV style is very similar to Path of Radiance. Good point. And yes, Marth is probably the character I use the most extensively, too.

I think ~35 characters is the magic number, assuming they remove/enhance some of the characters from Melee. Enough new characters to make the game feel fresh, but not so many as to make the game seem radically different from Melee.

As for character cluttering, I don't think there should be a problem with as many characters as possible. It doesn't have to be overwhelming. Just pick your favorite and move on.

I did a colour pallet check and everything is exactly the same, apparently. His clothes don't differ either. I'd love to see him as a trophy of sorts.

Anyone have any concepts about a trophy-ish system will be put in? The first had plushies, correct? What would be here this time?

I'm not sure about the lottery. They probably will include it, but if they don't, it'll be something like you have to earn them by collecting them in adventure mode, or beating/attaining a certain thing/goal in the game.

And what's this talk about 35 characters?!?! SSBM only had like 20. 25 or mabey 30 would work. But obviously there would be some cutting from SSBM characters.

I hope that they put in Isaac and Saturos, and I hope that they don't have (for example) Pikachu and then Pichu, or Mario and then Dr. Mario, so on and on. It takes away from the games overall creativity.

When I sit down to play Tekken I realize how much of the same it is. It bothers me and I hope Brawl doesn't fall into the same trap.

I know. 'Cause those are the kind of characters that can only be clones. Clones suck. They're the same as the original, but look different and have different stats. Like one would be slower and more powerful, but the other would be faster and wearker. It's ridiculous.

Plushies to trophies to... perhaps plaques of some sort?

I love the trading card idea, GL, that would be very cool. They could incorporate a Pokemon-esque trading system into SSBB and allow you to trade over the WiFi connection.

You know, all these suggestions are coming up, yet SSBM was pretty down to your bones minimum as far as content is concerned. Should we really be expecting that much?

Actually, SSBM had a fairly decent amount of content, if you think about it. It could have just easily been a standard 4-player smash game, but Nintendo included so many various modes, the trophy/lottery collection, all the options available for single-player mode, and of course, unlockable characters and stages.

Think about it. You may feel that the content is limited, but that's only because, presumably, you've unlocked and played through much of it already.

When Nintendo launched the original Super Smash Brothers for N64, they weren't actually expecting it to be such a hit, just as a filler game that would cater to a specific crowd. But it sold, and with Melee, Smash Brothers has solidfied itself as the premier multiplayer game for Nintendo.

To answer your point, Sea of Time, we have every right to be expecting a polished and well-rounded game, and personally, the trailer that was shown at E3 just raised my expectations higher.

Anyway, the trading card idea is superb! Then in your game you wouldn't be able to get all the cards so you would have to trade with someone else and give him a card he can't have. Cool!

Melee had a LOT of content if you ask me. Lots of multiplayer stages, Classic, Adventure and All-Star modes, the Home-Run contest, Multi-Man Melee, trophies, event matches, stock, time, coin and the points multi battles, special multi battles(like Invisble Melee and Tiny Melee)... There was just so much to do.

I can't remember where I read it, but it was probably on Nsider forums. This is for real. Wario's fart attack builds up over time, even if your not doing anything. The longer you wait, the more power it has. As for Zero suit samus, you can only play as her after doing a certain move in a battle, after you do that move, you can't go back to normal Samus until you go to another battle. It will likely be after she does an attack like in the trailer. So to be Zero suit Samus, you must play as Samus, do a certain attack, and then your Zero Suit for the rest of the match.

Hmm... if that's true on both accounts, then somehow, it gives the impression that Brawl might be different, in a sense, than its predecessors. There actually is some long-term strategy then; deciding how long you want to build up Wario's attack, deciding when, and if, to change from Samus to Zero Suit Samus... That's just the impression I get.

On a side note, to add to my trading card idea: you can collect, trade, and all that good stuff. But at the same time, you can bring up the picture specifically on the screen, and then manipulate it just like you could Melee (rotate it, zoom in/out, etc.), so it's kind of like also having a physical trophy of the character or item too.

My advice: If you're worried about getting rusty, playing everyday is a sure fire way to do so.I've been there. I played 8 hours straight for a week, got really good at it, but I got so used to it after a while, I started slipping up. But lack of playing'll do that too. Just play for an hour once a week. Or mabey even less. In fact, forget about being rusty, when Brawl comes out, I can assure you that you'll have to learn the controls over again. Practicing now won't help all that much.

Nintendo annouced way back that the classic controller (think soap bar) will be the controller for SSBB. It's basically a GC controller with Wii buttons and a weird shape, so it shouldn't be hard to get used to. GC controllers are indeed compatible, so I'd reccoment you use those.

Looking at the trailer is all you need to do. Notice the movesets for Link, Mario, Pikachu, Kirby; similar, if not identical to what was in Melee. Nothing in the trailer suggested the use of the Remote controller, and even for the new characters, particularly Pit and MetaKnight, I practically got the feel for how their moves will be mapped to the controller.

But it won't dissappoint. The new gameplay elements (the special techniques which Mars Djinni appropriately dubs, the "Super Smash", when you pick up the Melee logo), the new characters/stages, and even the graphics all look fantastic and new.

Brawl has a lot to live up to. And it will do it.

Trust me Aqua, when this game comes out, you'll say differently. Usually on SSB games, they don't pay much attention to the story mode, but Sakurai said they were paying close attention to it this time around. Not only that, but there'll be a slew of new stages, new characters, and new items. They might even add in a bunch of minigame like features, like the events, homerun contest, and wireframe fighting.

I say just because Snake is such a radical change from other characters, that they should be true to his nature. He's really the first SSB character not to have an E-Rated background game series. On that note, I still can't believe people are making fun of the name Wii. Yes, it's an unusual name. Yes, Nintendo could have chosen a more traditional name, and yes, it could be associated with some fairly obscene things. But I'd have thought by now, it would just become accepted; really, the hype around the name has died down since it was revealed a month or so ago, and it's no longer that big of an issue.

Now, returning back on topic, I find it very cool how Pit can unite his two blades into a bow/arrow, then separate them again for Melee ranged combat. Highly innovative.

Yeah I TOTALLY agree about Jiggz. She must stay. Shes a damn classic people!
Also shes the best Pokemon character of Melee, Mewtwo and Pichu are even considered the worst two characters of Melee and Pikachu doesnt do well to... :P Jiggly however is a character considered higher tier then Link, the Ice Climbers and Mario.

I think I'll try DK as first in Brawl. I'd like to see the new style of some older characters. Also the head director said they won't change the original characters too much. Some of them may even totally stay the same.

From the first accouned newcomers Im most happy about Pit. I never played Kid Icarius but still I like they added him. Er... I may have never played a Kirby game, but I do know what is under that cool mask. It's a BLUE fluffball! Whenever Kirby beats Meta Knight in a game his mask falls off and shows the exact same face that Kirby has. MK then runs away, hiding his face, probably because he's embarassed that he looks so cute, what with his tough-guy attitude.

Yes, you can see that in the trailer when he and Pit are squaring off, although that might have been three or four, not quite sure.

EDIT: After checking the trailer (it's around 0:56), MetaKnight has three jumps while in the air against Pit, but the way the camera is angled in the previous shot... that may have been another jump. Not sure. But certainly no more than Kirby's, that's certain.

Well, how do you expect the characters to look when you slow down the frame rate? You slow it down so that every movement, every action is drawn out. Of course it's going to look jerky and not fluid at all. You're basically enhancing the pauses between the different motions of the characters.

Yeah, either that sword or the two swords he has in Wind Waker, only in 3-D. I know that won't happen, but I can dream can I?
But there will be too many swords! That's why I think it's great they have Zero Suit Samus wielding a whip. Maybe it would be good to have the main character from Project H.A.M.M.E.R. waving his giant hammer around. Imagine that power!

The only reason the known 3rd party character, Snake, was in SSBB was because Kojima begged Nintendo on his knees. I don't believe many otehr 3rd party characters will follow.

Well they accoudned they are trying to put 1~2 other 3th party characters in there. Dont be suprised if Sonic isnt in there, the director Sakurai didnt add him to his list of possibilities for Brawl. And if Sonic was in there they would give him the special threatment which Snake got. Ofcoarse I could be wrong... :P

I heard that the controller is wireless, and on some games coming out on it like legend of zelda you use movements with the controller for slashing your sword, and it could be like that on SSB brawl.

Actually, sources from Nintendo said at E3 that the Gamecube controller will be used for this game so old SSB players can step right in and test their mettle online without having to relearn the game.

I think Sakurai actually said these aren't all the new characters. Anyway, I'm sure there will be unlockable new characters(like in Melee), though there may be no more new ones that'll be playable from the start.
Also, I'm pretty sure there will be quite a few more 3rd party chars. including Sonic.

At the conference when the trailer was revealed, Miyamoto and Sukarai both asked the audience for suggestions about who else should be included, it was open for anyone.

I think there will be a few more characters revealed, but the chances of another 3rd party character are, I agree with Mars Djinni, really slim.

It took so long for them to just implement Snake. It will take just as long to convince (or have someone to convince them) to put another third party character in.

But perhaps on a more optimistic tone, Sukarai has said that he wants to make Brawl a game "for the fans", and this time more than ever he is acknowledging input by gamers. So, if enough of a demand for a specific character (even a 3rd party one) is received, he might reconsider.

Isaac would be HAWT in SSBB, assuming that they'd base him on the official artwork and not his little sprite.

Before this past school year ended for me, one of my friends told me that Ivan was definitely going to be in the game. I got so excited about that, and then he told me he was joking. D= I got so depressed for the moment after that. XD

I know this is defienatly a long shot, but an idea just to play around with.
Sora. Yes, Sora would make a kick ass character. He could use some moves from the first game like Ragnarok as his up b move, then Sonic Rave as his > b move. And like Peach, he could use his Glide ability to kinda fly around the stage. I think he would fit well into the game, but like I said, its basicly an impossiblity

I sure do hope Snake is the only 3rd party in there. As you may already know, I am very against SSBB having ANY 3rd party characters, and seeing Snake playable was a big dissapontment for me. I guess it would be all right to have only one 3rd party char. in the game, he would be like a guest character, but having more than one would be bad. But don't forget that Nintendo actually said they were talking to other 3rd party companies about the inclusion of their characters.

That's why Peach swings a golf club as one of her smashes. No other Camelot character will ever make it, IMO. I don't think a kid in the audience of the conference would shot out the name "ISAAC!!!" for a suggestion without who-the-heck-is-he-talking-about looks from others.

His moveset is very reasonable, but he has more Playstation games than Nintendo games, so yeah, it is an impossibility.

I think I've said this before, but I think 3rd party characters are ok as long as they don't allow too many in. It offers variety in the characters and arenas available. Surely more choice can't be a bad thing right?
