Well, Samus would be ok, but I don't think she has the power and the durability of DK. Mewtwo would be horrible because he gets knocked out easily.

Well Mewtwo was not horrible beacause I beated that event with him.
THe trick of the event is that you have to defeat them in order otherwise if you K.O them they don't loose a stock. DK is a good choice, Samus is not really, because you need room for charging the beam and the Thunder Jolts would hinder that. Plus the Pikachu is alot better than a normal CPU level 9 one.

I wavedash a lot. It helps speed up your game. There's a lot of uses for it if your creative; mostly for things like fakeouts, and it works better than dodging in certain situations.

And I agree with you Diddy Kong. A well played Peach is definately good.

Peach is a great character. i never use her for two reasons
1. she's cheap

Me too, the frying pan is great. And she can "levitate". And she basically never dies if you don't knock her down or up.

That's why you play as Samus. missiles, homing missiles and an easy to use meteor smash (which probably can't be used half the time cause of that damn umbrella). You can also use the charge beam i guess. Peach floats quite slowly giving you plenty of time to get your beam fully charged and planted in her flace :P.

However, you can just dodge the beam by pressing the L or R buttons n.n

Peach is the best character for recovery when knocked off cliffs. She can just float to the edge, and then, if that isn't enough,l she can just use her umbrella to float.

I'm trying to use Zelda some more. I've been using Sheik way too much, so I need to warm up with Zelda again. She's rather fun.

She's definitely interesting but Sheik is the life and soul of that character. Zelda doesn't have much to offer.

The thing about Zelda is, if you don't try to master both personalities, you'll never be able to use her full potential.

That's exactly what I try to do. However, Sheik is so good at physical combat that it completely negates the need to use long-distance attacks from either character. Plus, her physical power is better than that of Zelda's.

This doesn't make Zelda useless, though. Her teleport ability takes her almost twice as far than that of Sheik's teleport. Her throws are much better and she has a really powerful side kick she does in midair that's more powerful than Sheik's combat abilities.

With Sheik, I just have fun. I run around with her and use her chain move. But she is good, and I like her better than Zelda.

My favorite part about Sheik is the super-long reach on her side smash. You can hit people that are pretty far away and as far as I know, she has the most reach on her smash. (?)

What is relly weird about Young Link, when I jump up really high with him, with the bunny ears on, then do the up A move, (I think, its the one where he spins around), I end up going so high, that I die.

It's the Up B move and I don't know how that works. I have jumped, really, really high before with the bunny ears and have not died.

ANd has anyone played on the giant melee mode. Where everyone is huge. So, play as Bowser and give him the big mushroom, he will get huge,, and then make the other people get the small mushroom, and oh what a fun battle that would be.

I have played a Giant Melee where the only item was power mushrooms and items were on very high and we were on Fox's ship. It looked like a ton of giants were on the ship. My friend kept thinking that the ship was going to go into a nosedive any minute.

My favorite stage though is Corneria, it is rally llong, and fun to go on the laser at the bottom. But mr. Game and Watch's stage is really cool also. It is all extremel 2-D platforms and everthing.

Corneria is my fave for two player battles, but for three or four I like to go to Hyrule Temple.

I'm so tired of playing on Hyrule Temple. Thats where everyone wants to play, and the only reason is so they can all run away from me. Corneria is a good level. My favorite level is Yoshi's Island (not the Yoshi's Story one) because almost everyone falls through the boxes in the middle.

I like the stage Mushroom Kingdom. I never really fought there and yesterday when I did with a friend we enjoyed ourselfs well there. We did an sort of training with handicaps again. We both handicap 1 and the CPU handicap 9. Ofcoarse we had some items like Hammer and Red Shell on otherwise it's impossible.

Yeah Fox, Falco and Captain Falcon fall very fast. This gives them more ressistance agains air attacks but it's harder to get back when your knocked of the stage. These are the fast fallers but there are alot of slow fallers which people tend to call floaties. They have less air defence but can come back pretty easily. Floaty characters are characters like Mewtwo, Luigi and Samus and how fast a character falls has nothing to do with their weight.

And I honestly don't believe classes and things will be in SSBO. What I do believe is that Nintendo would allow us to download new characters and stages. And I hope they will add lot's of more characters. Good change that Wario, Diddy, Daisy and Toad will make an appearance in there. Other new characters I would like to see are:

-Super Mario characters:
Toadette*
Birdo
Bowser Jr. (with the ability to change into Shadow Mario :P )
Petey Piranha*
Waluigi*

-Donkey Kong characters:
Dixie Kong
King K.Rool

-Other (all *):
Tingle (If Nintendo makes a game called Tingle RPG we sure know he will be in SSBO, I mean he was in SSBM to.)

I think that new characters would be a pretty good idea. I think they should come from characters released since SSBM though. If they spend too long trying to get characters from older games then it will look like the best ones only come from the older days.

Well, I remember people saying that Nintendo shouldn't put Golden Sun characters because the games are older. But they put the characters from Fire Emblem, and they weren't really well known to America until they were in Smash Bros, which then Fire Emblem was released in America on the GBA, followed by two more games.
So there is a slight possibility that we might see some people that we don't know about, or some people that we don't expect at all.

Nah... Nintendo said that they would not screw their new games. And yeah I REALLY hope that they fix the Ganondorf-is-Captain Falcon-clone thingie... It really was annoying in SSBM. But in SSBR I think they may add SOME clones. Atleast the 25 from SSBM would be in there. And besides of Diddy and Dixie Kong I think they should really add King K.Rool into this game. Very heavy character (heavier than Bowser) very strong, kinda slow, high jumps (you should see him in DKC1 o.o) and moves as Crown throw or High Jump. :lol:

Sorry for the double post (if it even is a double post) but I need help with Event 51 (The Showdown). Does anyone have any tips for me because I'm getting tired and pissed off at this event.

Use Jigglypuff, yeah I know your probarly heard this alot more but yeah it's the best to do. Use down+B at Giga Bowser, this will always hit him and kill him in 1 hit. Yeah so the big guy is gone huh... Well now take care of Mewtwo by spamming the Forward Air move and Forward Smash move alot. Make sure he's in the air and keep on doing the Forward Air and dont give him any freacking change. Don't worry about floating away too much from the stage, use Forward tilt+ B aka Pound alot to float back horizontally. Well Ganon is pretty much the same, just watch out for his Up+ B move since that move is pretty strong and may kill your combo. Also you COULD try killing them to with Rest but that pretty hard but not impossible, first use >+B to send them in the air, then short hop and use the Rest when they are in the air. Very hard to explain but it works.

Well, I personally prefer to simply use a character that I'm comfortable with, and to keep practicing and training with the character(s), in my case Marth and Falco.

However, an alternative technique to what Sea of Time mentioned is to use Kirby. Essentially, the idea is to float above and across the screen, and to fall towards the edge and to have Kirby hang on. Then, you release, float up near the edge, and grab onto it again. It's cheap, it's pitying, but it should be able to take out Giga Bowser after a few tries, since he (it?) is especially prone to falling.

I tried Kirby and I essentially used that method but it didn't work. Ganondorf negated most of it's effect after a while.

Well, again, it's not a technique that I recommend. I would much rather use a character that I enjoy using, and trying my best with that character, as opposed to using either of the above ways.

I suppose you could also try Roy or Marth, with their Down + B deflection; especially Roy's, since his is more powerful.

I'm with GL about the comfortable character thing. I used Yoshi and I just beat the crap out them all using the Meteor smash and smash moves.

Yeah, I'll start trying Roy, since he's my most comfortable character. It would be easier if stupid Ganondorf wasn't there.

Ah yeah if your using Roy try this: Get them all together at 1 spot and be concentrated on the Counter. Wait for Ganon to use his Warlock Punch, quickly counter that and you kill all 3 bad asses.

I didn't realize that Counter actually counters at the same power as the attack that was attacking you. (confusing :P) Thanks for the tip.

The only reason for me to use guard with Marth is to gain the flow to my advantage, or just to trhow them off. Because Marth is Marth, I wouldn't use it to kill the opponent.

Roy's Counter deals 1.5% times the damage that the enemies attack would've done.

Marth's Counter dealse .75% (don't quote me on that one, I'm not sure) of the attack, and has much, much less knockback.

I think Marth's counter deals a set damage of 7%. I have yet to test it out, but that is what I picked up from somewhere.

Im glad I own the PAL version. I only hear about Marth in this topic. o.o; Marth is a little downpowered in the PAL version and Im happy about that. Never really liked Marth, low tier characters all the way! :P

PAL refers to a region... come to think of it, I've never known what the initials meant either. Perhaps something to do with the Pacific? Or maybe it was Europe... gah, it was something to that effect. A specific territory, is all I know.

Sheik was nerfed in that version too, and Falco's d-air doesn't spike anymore. :blink:

The better choice for pink and round would be Jigglypuff. Her areal attacks have awesome speed and power. Also she has great recovery and jumps. And Jiggly's Rest is just a killer move, it easly will hit any Bowser or Mewtwo who dares to fight Jiggs.

As far I know, the only difference between the versions of Super Smash Brothers Melee is that the Japanese version had a longer platform in the Stadium's Home Run Derby. You can actually see for yourself by switiching the language to Japanese.

Actually, since it's a Poke'mon, it can be both, just depends on how you look at it. Most people would call it a her because it looks like it. It's all an opinion.

On Ganondorf, do a Down throw or Pound (or up tilt) into Rest.
On Mewtwo, do an up air (get under him somehow) or up tilt into Rest.

Ahh... it's interesting, my school is along the Hudson, on the Manhattan side. In fact, my school would be just beyond the boundaries of the photograph on the site. :P

Since I'm in close proximity, I'll definitely consider going, since at the moment I have no plans for those two days (prone to change, of course). It sounds extremely exciting... seeing the elite SSBM players from the entire world.

Now that you mention it, there have been tournaments held at the Nintendo World Store. I've visited it a few times, and it's a phenomenol complex. There was a Super Smash Brothers tournament held there sometime last summer, in 2005, among others.

My play in the 2vs2's were ridicoulous, me and my partner almost took out Sons of Odin (Wes and SockNinja) out of the Loser's finals. We got 3rd place in doubles (team name: the WAAAHmbulance) and won a Gamer Graphix for our respective Gamecubes.

After that, all the talent drained away from me, and I placed horribly low in the 1vs1's (even though I won my seeding pool ;_:). It was bad enough so that people noticed the significant difference. My partner did well though, at least.

Some friends and I got together and tried it and it really works. Whats suppose to happen is that You have to have 4 players on three teams, any character with Fox, peach on another team, and fox or falco on another.
2 stages that you can do it on is Hyrule Temple and Battlefield. I won't go into too much detail, but its awesome.

You know what annoys me? These so-called "expert" players. Both they and the people who look at them as if they're Gods. They played with one or two characters practicaly since they got the game, went online to find out how to do all these fancy Wavedashing, L-Canceling and those kinds of techniques, spent hours a day playing the game just to be the best ever and now they're called "the masters". Then these idiot n00bs go online, find out who the highest ranking characters in the tier list are, find out how to do those super-cool-ultra-awesome moves like Wavedashing and watch a gazillion videos of their heroes playing Melee, analyzing them closely every time.

Don't know why I said this, it was just on my mind...

Well what pisses me off is how they are only good with one character. Granted I've only had my GC for I dunno 7 weeks now, but since Melee is finished I play againest the CP in multiplayer. Anyway when I play I go random character, VS lv9 CP and random stage. I don't practice for 15 hours a day with just Ness or Fox, I play with everyone.

There are characters I like, and characters I don't like. I prefer to use a character that brings out the best of my abilities. I used to use kirby, then I used Roy. After I used Roy, I havn't been able to use kirby very well anymore, but I do better using Roy. Then I tried out Luigi, I did good with him for a few matches, then he just sucked, so I moved on to Fox. I can ohnestly say that he brings out the best of my abilities, but I still use Roy most of the tim since I've used him for so long, and his combos are great. They're easier for me to pull of than Marth's probably because he's a bit slower.

I strive to be as good at this game as I can be. To me, this is the only game where I care whether I do good at it or not. Well....that and Halo. :)

Well, of course there are characters that you are good with and that you're bad with, but I totally agree with watch. That's what I do, I very rarely change the character I've gotten by random, and that is why I've played with every single one in a huge number of matches and that is why I'm not actually bad with any of them. The only characters I sometimes change are Mewtwo, Pichu and peach, since I'm not really good at playing them.

But yeah, using one or two characters all teh time is really boring and can get annoying to other people.
