Should I buy Borderlands even if I have no one to play it with? (PS3, no 360)

I mean either way I can't buy it now, I'm broke, but maybe later.

Played Demon's Souls last night for the first time in about a week, was pleased that I didn't seem to be rusty at all.

In fact, I was invaded by a black phantom for the first time last night. Black phantoms are other, human players who have died and lost their bodies, putting them into what the game calls "Soul Form." When a player is in Soul Form they have a small fraction of their HP taken away until they get back into Body Form. This can be accomplished by either defeating a boss demon, becoming a blue phantom and helping somebody else who is in Body Form defeat a boss demon, or becoming a black phantom and killing someone who is in Body Form.

So after being alerted of his presence and found him, all he did was run away and try to get CPU enemies, including the tough, red eye demons to attack and weaken me (they ignore BPs) while he stays back and casts Soul Arrow on me, sometimes going in to hit with an axe. This was annoying because I was clearly the better fighter as I managed to backstab him numerous times, and I took out all the CPU enemies, even while he was there. e_e Eventually I just backtracked to an earlier part of the castle to look for stuff I missed and he goes looking for me, finally killed him in a fair fight. The douche. I got his souls, too. :3

Defeated my 4th arch demon in Demon's Souls today, which I guess means I'm about to beat the game... and the music in the Nexus suddenly changed from a tranquil yet sad song to an entirely ominous organ piece.

It's... it's creeping me out, guys. I haven't heard such an ominous song in a very long time.

Nahh I got this in the middle of October. I'm by no means breezing through it quickly.

The game isn't so tough when you get over that initial difficulty curve at the very beginning. It's really only as hard as you make it out to be. It's never EASY though.

I'd say I've had about as much fun playing Mother 3 as I had playing both GS1 and GS2. The story is actually REALLY well thought out, imo, and the game can be quite difficult in spots.

By far one of the best GBA games ever. Now all that's left is for Nintendo to frikkin' release it outside of Japan.

Killed one of (I'm pretty sure) two dragons in Demon's Souls. Now just got to kill one more and I'll get a trophy. Then I have to kill this game's version of what basically reminds me of Sephiroth from his fighting style, and he's... he's TOUGH. So I have no idea when that'll be done. Then... honestly I'm not sure what'll happen after that.

Agreed, they really managed to convey the tragedy of the storyline. I find all the quirky ideas and the whole setting of the game just amazing. And the difficulty is very satisfactory as well.

It's almost more like an excellent novel than a game.

At the end with Zakhaev I think, well the guy with 1 arm, you crash your truck on a bridge, Gav gets shot by 1 arm man, Price throws you a gun while on the floor and you ahve to shoot zakhaev and his men and then then you're rescued by the russians that help you in the game, though I imagine Price was taken and locked in a Gulag by them for some reason.

My only gripe is when you get near to (what I assume is) the ending of the game. It seems a bit different from the rest of the game in that it feels less like a story and more like a traditional RPG with lots of level grinding

Installing mods is extremely easy. Then again, I've done it so damn much it's just like second nature now. The real challenge is knowing when to STOP installing mods so that the game doesn't get so many conflicts it crashes as soon as you double click the shortcut.

I'm not having trouble installing them, I just dont want to get to a point like WD said, because that happened with Oblivion. Which means I'm picking mods more carefully and its just a lot more effort than it really should be.

I heard it was short, and after dumping 60 bucks on Brutal Legend for a short-ish (if good) game, I'm waiting to buy it cheap.

After playing games like Demon's Souls, Oblivion, Dragon Age, the Fallouts, Sims, and Borderlands which are all long, fun, and have high replayability, it's hard for me to justify buying games that are short for the same price.

They keep using overwhelm on my guys, and while you can bump them off with an ability like Winter Storm (or something like that) Shield Bash, or anything that stuns or immobilizes, some other damn dog jumps up and does it again.

That's not my problem. My problem with buying games used is that none of the money from the purchase goes to the developer. It goes only to the store. Hell, I'm not buying a PS3 until I can secure a copy of Demon Souls. I know it's hard to come by and even if I see only a used copy I will not buy it.

Well right now I'm trying to complete the DLC for GTA IV. I made the foolish mistake of buying The Saboteur on the 23rd, when I got Borderlands, Tekken 6 and Prototype for Christmas. Considering the piracy rate these days, something like that is just a drop in the ocean. It's not like there's any loss if you can't track down a copy in the first place.

Aside from the obvious that COD6 is also MA15+, MW2 is just a shitload of fun you can drop in play a game then drop out, Fallout was more a lengthy gap of time. Fallout3 was great though.

I really wish I had been aware of how horribly Dragon Age enjoys ridiculously out-numbering your party. Oh god, the mobs. If I had known, I would've built my characters differently, Morrigan in particular. OH WELL I guess I can just weather on through and level up so I can get those abilities I should've taken earlier.

To the game's credit every fight seems possible to win, at least on normal difficulty, even with somewhat less-than ideal character setups as long as some thought is given to character positioning and other such things. Still, I hope small armies of enemies versus my four dudes isn't going to be a habit, facing smaller groups of tough enemies seems more realistic and enjoyable.

I fucken' hate Karol. It's not for how he is in battle, he's just so Goddamn annoying. Kid characters are the absolute worst, especially in games like Tales of. What also blows is that despite how much Karol sucks, he got more character development than the rest of your party.

Anyways, with my 360 at M$, I've hardly been paying games at all. Started up Path of Radiance again, though.

This non-controllable mage that was supposed to be "helping" me in Dragon Age has an affinity to using Fireball at point blank. He was doing more damage to all of my dudes than the actual enemy.

Then shortly after those enemies, we face four series of consecutive fights, which he has to skip out on, and I die on the first or the second one because of his dumbass sapping everyone's health to a quarter. Yay for earlier saves.

I tried messing with the tactical slots a couple days ago. Allistair ended up using all my health poultices while I was in the middle of purging the Dwarf Carta. I was underleveled, of course, and almost all of my characters had a score of injuries at that point.

1. Tactics are there so you dont have fail stuff like that happen.

2. Generally a good idea to have at least your main tank have a health potion option for when they are under 25%.

3. Save the Dwarves for last, they are the hardest.

4. Final boss is dead, good ending.

5. Arcane warrior > All else hahahahaha

I always have my dudes tactics set to using weakest health poultice when their health gets down below 50%. Works out for me, I tend to micro a lot so I don't have to wait for the tactics AI to do it for me a lot of times. There's some moronic times where someone will use a poultice after all the dudes are dead just because their health is less than 50%, but that doesn't happen often and like I said, I had it set so they use the weakest poultice in the inventory.

All the sudden Dragon Age became really easy, and as far as can tell I haven't accidentally pressed the difficulty settings. Either Orzammar is easy or I finally filled in the sweet spot for stats on my main characters. *grumble* The actual DnD RPGs explained ALL the stats and modifiers...

Looking back on Borderlands, it was fun but it just combined elements of previous games of different genres. Assassins Creed 2 was fun as hell, but with no replay value I have little reason to go back and play it.

Batman gets my probably GOTY because it's subtle about incorporated genre elements and blends them well. Borderlands isn't subtle about it which means its just a grind fest with guns.

Actually the boss fights are what let me down. The scarecrow fights were AWESOME but the rest of them were just replicas of the bane fight "Throw a batarang at his head and dodge out the way when he charges". Or some of them were even just fighting henchmen

MW2 is probably a fantastic game, if you're into the online arena style FPS, or whatever you'd call it. I'm not denying that. It's just that the GotY should, by definition, have two requirements: One, it needs to be a lot fun. Two, it should bring in something that's new to video games, or at least do something that isn't usually seen in a video game and/or is a bit unsaturated in the industry, and needs to do it well. MW2 fails on the second part, does the world really need more online FPS? They're worse than rhythm games in that respect, online FPS only get the benefit that people enjoy calling them hardcore.

Playing moar Arkham Asylum, I would have no problem whatsoever calling this game GotY 2009, but my vote still goes to Demon's Souls.

Just finished the Lost in Dreams quest in Dragon Age. Was so much fun, definitely the best experience in the game so far.

I can't see why. Switching forms to take down enemies all by yourself was a blast. I guess the "puzzles" could've been a bit more involved, but that's the only thing I could strike against it.
