Played a bunch of Civ IV for a while but I've got bored of that. FYI, the expansions add more options and make the game feel a lot more interesting with random events.

It's annoying when other civs get passive-aggresive and send spies to poison your water before you can perform counter-espionage.

I played the Heavy Rain demo and it was pretty great. The movement controls were a bit awkward, and even if you get used to them it still doesn't really feel like a normal person walking. Everything else was good.

Played the Bad Company 2 demo with Mallick for a little. It was fun but I didn't really notice anything too different about it to the first game other than that there's no demolition class anymore and the controls are better. Granted, I only played the Bad Company demo.

Demon's Souls.. and it's kicking my ass.. WD how do you beat those two blue-eyed-knights at the end of the bridge in 2-1. The second one always ends up rushing down, and I have to try and fight them both at the same time.. which doesn't work at all.

Do you mean 1-2? I don't remember any blue eye demons in 2-1.

It pays to be defensive in Demon's Souls. Don't run forward too much. For that specific spot, I recommend using a spear + shield combo. Spears are nifty because you can hold your shield up to defend yourself and attack with your spear at the same time. I think rapiers do this too. Take out the crossbowman with this method and wait for the first blue eye knight to come attack you, then back up to make sure the second one doesn't follow and attack too.

edit: I made a new character a couple dayz back who should be the same-ish level as you and is in body form I think, we can do co-op if you need more help.

yeah, it was 1-2, sorry. and thanks btw, i was able to beat him. the second knight came down, but the first was hurt enough that i just avoided him till i could finish off the first. i always had problems before going too far back and getting burnt, but i guess i needed some time away from it to see what i was doing wrong.

and i never really got the multiplayer.. can we theoretically play through the entire game together?

Theoretically, yes. The goal of co-op is for whoever is dead to get their body back by helping living players kill major demons. Only players who are dead can join the host's game, and the host needs to be alive. If I were dead, and you summoned me as a blue phantom, we would kill whatever boss together, and then I would be brought back to my world with my body back. Then one of us would have to kill ourselves so that they could be summoned again, rinse and repeat.

Keep in mind that the boss will only be dead in YOUR world. Say if both of us had not killed Tower Knight yet, and I help you kill Tower Knight, he will die in your world (and remain dead) but Tower Knight in my world will still be alive. I'd still get souls for helping you kill him, though.

SS2 is more playable than I expected. Kind of like Bioshock in a space station, but with more focus on inventory and item management. Even now it still looks pretty, especially running the SHTUP texture pack, though the hybrids are still blocky bastards. :/

Coincidentally, I picked up Bioshock the other day. The original that is, rather than the sequel. Man, I tried to close my eyes that night to sleep and all I could hear was a twisted mix of security turrent sirens and hysterical splicers, but then again I've always been soft when it comes to anything that's remotely horror-esque.

I've yet to get bored of luring splicers into puddles of water, whacking them with a wrench then frying them with lightning. The best part of the game so far for me though is the whole mystery behind Rapture, like finding small clues as to what happend, as well as the insight that comes with the audio logs.

Bought Medieval 2 Total War a couple days ago because of the Steam sale. It crashes every ten minutes on my desktop because it's a piece of shit, but my laptop plays it admirably with low settings.

This game is sick. I just dominated a French army. Initially we had an even balance of forces, but the French had reinforncements coming our way and all along the flanks that would eventually outnumber us 5 to 3 or so. So, instead of facing them head on, I used catapults and archers to rain fire missiles on them to lower morale, launch cavalry at the flank and then pull them back, followed up with spearmen at the front, repeat with the cavalry at the flanks, pretty soon dudes will retreat.

Seeing the initial wave of men retreat lowers the reinforcement's morale just a smidgen as well. All the rest of the pieces invariably fell into place to make them retreat as well.

I lost less than 25% of my men, while the french lost more than 85%. :P

I pretty much would have to agree with the general consensus around Darksiders. Zelda gameplay with God of War combat, but with slightly clunky controls. I'm just not a fan of the 4-direction dodge. It worked in God of War but I still didn't like it, however it flat out doesn't work here. What's even worse is that if you try to block too soon after or during the end of the dodge animation, the game won't register that you're trying to block and War just stands there.

In spite of that, combat is still completely playable (I've only died once out of the nearly 2 hours I've played on normal difficulty, granted the game is slow at the beginning) and is actually, at it's best, just as fun and flashy as God of War combat. There just aren't as many action/adventure games made these days with this style. The only other one I could think of that was made recently was Arkham Asylum.

getting back into Blazblue. i just ordered a Hori HRAP3 because i want to get good with a stick.. a bunch of nu's combos are excruciatingly difficult with the d-pad. plus i want to go to evo 2011, so i'm going to need to know how to play on a pad.

oh, and the yakuza 3 demo.. played that about 5 times through. thank fuck they kept the original voices like they did with yakuza 2, and just had english subtitles. fighting's decent, if slightly a bit repetitive (but i'm sure it opens up more in the full game) and the weapons are fun as hell to use. spearing the one jamaican jap (i noe rite?) with the kendo stick was a little too enjoyable.

Friend came over the other day with his 360 and BFC2, got 20K points and 45 kills in one round as assault on the middle east map, hardcore server.

Also nos, the only time the "Entire team being snipers" problem has come up for me is in those games were you only have like 5 people on each team, but otherwise I find that medics are by far the most common class.

I agree that was the more interesting part of the game. Dunno why everyone faps over Aerith so much and still mourns her death to this date. She's good as far as the titular "bubbly chick" of the group goes I suppose.

Cloud is a little bitch but it goes with the fallen hero theme that FFVII has. Zack was the true hero, Cloud is a poor replacement.

I actually made the Mass Effect 2/Bioshock 2 choice earlier. I went with Bioshock as 1.) it was £2 cheaper and 2.) it's probably the game I want more.

Bioshock was a big let down. Yea the story was ok, but as far as shooters go, it was average. Gears was definatly a better shooter, repetitive but better.
Caael had a point. Get Mass Effect 2, or 1 if you haven't played it, longer and much better then both.

I disagree completely. Gears is cool and worth playing, but the TPS cover system and shooting has been done better since in other games. BioShock's gunplay isn't the best, but there's more to the game than just shooting stuff anyway such as the fairly open level design and gameplay, exploring, and just the whole atmosphere is a great experience. SoT might I suggest you try out a renting service? Both the games you mentioned are games that you'll play 1 maybe 2 times through. With a good rental service you can pay like $20 a month for a few games, rather than just one. Much better than spending money on a game you'll play once.

I think I'm nearing the end of my first real Medieval 2 campaign finally... there's 50-60 turns left on the clock but yeah. I'm having a lot of fun with it and I'd like to do another campaign, but it's taken me so long to do this one that I'm not sure I actually will. XP I'm aware of longer/shorter length settings but screw that, I like playing games the way that I'm assuming they're meant to be played, on the normal length.

I liked TP quite a bit too, but I think most of that was coming from me thinking "yay this is harder than Wind Waker! I like to rp what are we rping? haha, Heavy Rain actually isn't too too long, its a matter of how long YOU take to beat it. Each scenario has a different running time depending on what exactly you do with your time there. For example anything with someone naked in it I took my time >.>

I did like the moves you learned from them though. The combat in TP was really good fun, especially when fighting Darknuts.

I think I actually liked TWW's combat more. The parry moves were satisfying, even though you could basically learn the same attack in TP.

Scratch that, TP's combat probably was slightly better due to more moves being at your disposal. But since near everything that was outside of that challenge cave in the desert died in about three hits, fights were over before they could really get fun.

In retrospect, I think I was a little too hard on TWW. It was short, it was easy, sailing was super tedious, but it was a beautiful and the game was still pretty fun. I borrowed it but I think I might buy it at GameStop someday.

Anyhoo, I played the Skate 3 demo for a full hour. A friend sent me an in-game recommendation to play and holy snap, it's a lot of fun. I played the Skate 2 demo for a little but I didn't dig the controls, but for some reason I really like it this time around. I might actually buy the game but ugh... so many other games to get (namely 3D Dot Game Heroes and RDR) and I've already spent a fortune this year.

I've been playing the fuck outta God Of War since I bought it, with little bits of Legend OF Legaia in when I want the JRPG fix. GoW 3 is fucking brilliant, btw. This was a series meant for the PS3.. it has such scale, and the first two feel so insignificant now that I play them, even their PS3 remakes. Hades was a bitch to beat though.
