I really despise FE on home consoles. Where's the FE for DS? Now that's going to be a kick ass game.
Wow Intelligent Systems, atleast make some more CG cutscenes... I'm able to tolerate reading for like 90% of my gaming time on the DS, but on the Wii? Hell no.

Mind you, I loved Fire Emblem, but honestly, I don't enjoy the home console versions, well PoR wasn't time consuming and fun, like the GBA FEs.

I think the guys who make Fire Emblem should do what Capcom did with it's Megaman games. That is, make a FE collection game. Have all the FE games through eight. They just have to get them translated. I think it would work. What do you think. Come on Nintendo guys, make a FE collection.

That's probarly the reason why it never saw light outside Japan. I've played the game a couple of times (with a good English patch) and I say FE6's normal mode is atleast 1.5 x as hard as FE7's hard mode, imagine playing that with no FE exp at all... The game would easly be far too hard, it's sometimes even frustating for a "rather" experienced player as me so the game simply wouldn't do well here in the west.

I'd agree. The bosses were difficult from about chapter 3 onwards. If they'd have released it here, they'd tone down the difficulty.

They did that with Path of Radiance. The Japanese "Easy" mode corresponds to our "Normal" mode, their "Normal" mode, is our "Difficult" mode, and they also have an additional difficulty for "Mania" that, of course, would just blow the minds of every American gamer out there.

I just started playing PoR again yesterday. After beating the game the first time, I noticed that you get these bracelet thingies that say that they alter a level upgrade.

So what do these bands do?

Archer Band - higher chance to boost Skill and SPD
Cavalier Band - higher chance to boost HP and SPD
Fighter Band - higher chance to boost HP and STR
Knight Band - higher chance to boost STR and DEF
Mage Band - very high chance to boost Magic
Pegasus Band - higher chance to boost Luck and RES
Priest Band - higher chance to boost Luck and RES
Soldier Band - higher chance to boost HP and DEF
Sword Band - higher chance to boost Skill and Luvk
Thief Band - higher chance to boost Skill and SPD
Wyvern Band - higher chance to boost STR and DEF

For the record, when it says "higher chance", that means +5%, and when it says "very high chance", that means +10%.

And yes, anyone can equip the various bands, which adds a bit of strategy. Should you, say, give a Wyvern Band to Soren to boost his very low strength and defense, or should you give a Mage Band to him to reinforce his already powerful magic?

They become especially useful when you give those bonus experience points at the base, and you can equip the different bands to try and increase a particular stat.

I'm playing through Hard mode in Path of Radiance again. It's a lot easier than I remember it being.

On another interesting note, all the characters in PoR will appear in Goddess of Dawn, and the Wii sequel will have 72 characters in total - the PoR characters will receive a boost in stats if you have a GameCube memory card with a PoR file in the Wii, which is a nice added bonus.

Not to mention all your supports from the first game will get transferred over, and you can actually read and collect them, like you could in the GBA games.

Isn't Ike gonna be one of the main characters in Goddess of Dawn?

It's because the name has sunk in after a year and a half, not to mention with the console's acceptance into mainstream (at an insane, phenomenal rate that even surprised Nintendo, I think), it just feels natural. Besides, I agree, "Revolution" would have seemed somewhat generic and far-fetched, whereas by creating a new, simpler name, Nintendo succeeded in its gambit to make the name more accessible.

That said, going back to Fire Emblem, I like the name change; "Radiant Dawn" is at least reminiscent of "Path of Radiance", which means the connection between the two in being the same universe, having the same characters, etc. will be better made.

Or it could be Nintendo not wanting anything that sounds like religion in a game title. They did it in the past, Japanese titles or character have religous conotations, and they change them to something else in the English version. Megaman is one example, Bass and Trebble were oringanly Forte and Gospel, but they didn't want religious terms in the English game so they changed it.

But I'm off topic. I eagerly await the release of FE, it and Brawl are the main reasons I want a Wii. I just need to finish beating PoR. Although that could be another reason for the name change on that religous aspect. If it were still Goddess of Dawn, the acronym would be GoD. which of course is a religous conotation. Nintendo don't like to do that.

And very good point escout, I never thought of that. It's true, Nintendo is strict about censorship (then again, most companies that release products in the US need to be). At any rate, Radiant Dawn has the nice "RPG feel" that will undoubtedly get attention. My only concern for GoD - err, RD - is that it's being released on November 5th, with the release of Super Mario Galaxy literally just a week away... might that hurt sales?

Well, Fire Emblem and Super Mario Galaxy are quite different from each other. In my opinion, for mainly this reason, I don't think Radiant Dawn sales will be hurt much, if not at all.

I prefer the name Goddess of Dawn, but Radiant Dawn still sounds pretty cool. It's fitting too, seeing as it's a sequel to Path of Radiance.

I just found out a couple days ago that Bronze is a new weapon type. Old news? I think so, but I just found this out recently, and I think it's pretty cool. I'm assuming Bronze is going to be stronger than Iron, but maybe a bit weaker than Steel. It just seems that way to me.

I thought it was bad to make a heavier weapon. Lighter = less speed reduction, heavier = more speed reduction. Though speed is obviously only reduced if the weight is greater than the user's strength. So what does the added weight offer?

And can you make custom elwind/etc. tomes, or do they only let you do that with the normal ones?

As for bronze weapons, they're a combination of copper and iron, and if I remember right, they replaced iron weapons in medeavil(sp?) times. Therefore, I'd expect them to be stronger and lighter than iron. The copper replacing some of the iron makes it lighter, and the combination of the two metals make it stronger.

Rolf was decent, but Shinon totally outclassed him, in my opinion. During all of my playthroughs of PoR, Shinon always turned out better than Rolf. Shinon also has a really funny Info conversation with Ike in chapter 20-something. =P

That's because the game takes place at least five or six years after PoR ends, so Ike is going to be older looking. Just like main character Sothe.

Edit: Yet it does seem strange how other returning characters like Mist, Ike's sister, don't seem to have aged at all.

And for the record, many other people look older as well. Sothe, for example. There are some people that don't appear aged at all. King of the beasts, for example, because he's so old already; he hasn't aged in years.

Due to the fact that I'm not allowed to play on the weekdays, I'm progressing slowly. I'm only on Chapter Seven of Part I at the moment. I submitted version 0.1 of my FAQ on GameFAQs earlier. =D

It turns out that North America's Normal Mode is the equivalent to Japan's Hard Mode. No wonder the the difficulty was noticeable. XD Still not too hard, though.

Why in the world would the North American version be harder than the Japanese version? It's always been the other way around.

Well, technically, you can say the North American version is just as difficult because there isn't a Maniac Mode on the NA version.

Anyways, I'm about to go through the final chapter of Part I tonight. Let me just say that Micaiah's growths are better than I thought. Her Magic and Resistance growths are even better than Soren's, although Soren's superior in Skill and Speed growths.

Maniac Mode? So their easy mode is childs play, normal mode is easy, hard mode is normal, and Maniac mode is hard?

I still don't think that the japanese version's normal mode should be easier than NA's. But of course, I'm not complaining. :(

The scary part is, Micaiah's level 20, but she got loads of Luck, which is at 26 right now. Her Luck growth really stunned me.

Eddie, the Myrmidon you start with, is really good, too. Right now, he's level 19 and he has a 20 in Strength and Speed and a 19 in Skill. Too bad his Defense is only 7. XD

Yup, she's the one. She's the main Lord of the game along with Ike.

Sothe, unlike in Path of Radiance, is actually good this time around.

He's a Jeigan, and will first come into the party as a level 2 or 3 Rogue. He ends up getting pretty good stats overall, namely Skill and Speed. His Strength is pretty good, too.

I think they're pretty good for now at least. He can survive for quite a while with his high HP and fairly good defense, but I regret not training Volke more before he "evolved".

Well apparently he's not. Micaiah and Ike are. And the main characters aren't ALWAYS lords. Ike wasn't a lord in PoR, yet he was a main character.

On a side note, I've been meaning to ask people who have Radiant Dawn - how is that game like? How's the difficulty compared to PoR, how's the storyline, etc. I've been so anxiously waiting to play that game (one more month left!) that I just want to at least hear impressions about it.

According to EGM's review, it kicks ass. It got two 9.0s and an 8.5. And the only difference is that it had a higher difficulty level and a mid-battle save feature. And it's supposed to be 45 chapters long.

@Gl-Fire Emblem is a stragety game. Radiant Dawn is a sequel of PoR so I would suggest playing that first. I don't know how difficult the game is since I don't own a copy. Is this your first FE game? I've been playing them since FE7, each one multiple times.

Oh no, on the contrary, I've played every English FE game, FE7, Sacred Stones, and PoR, and each one at least twice. I enjoyed PoR a lot, and I'm just hoping that RD can at least match its story (it is a sequel, I know), its scope, etc. (and from the sounds of things, it does).

Radiant Dawn's difficulty is rather high compared to most of the previous Fire Emblems. Best part is, the Noth American version doesn't go easy on us. As a matter of fact, NA's Normal is equivalent to Jap's Hard, and NA's Hard is equivalent to Jap's Maniac. However, the NA version doesn't have a Maniac, like usual. D=

The story is good. That's all I'll say, as I don't want to spoil anything. I think the story is on par with PoR's which means it's interesting.

Supports have changed. You'll see once you've played the game.

I can tell you guys more later, as I'm on the last chapter of the game now. You have no idea how badly

Pro Street isn't like those crappy football/basketball/whatever games. It's a RACING game. With CARS. And that is ALL that matters. =P But actually, I've been looking foreward to Pro Street for quite some time. Hopefully it'll even beat Porsche unleashed, which is, in my opinion, the BEST game in the NFS series yet.

Agreed on that note. GS's review was completely biased and unfair. In a general note, what I've been able to gather from all the reviews is that if you played PoR, and enjoyed it, then you will enjoy RD. Simple as that.

The link didn't work for me, but I read the Game zone review, and even though you could say that his review is more valid because he's 'new' to the series, it's not. For a review like that, you can't only be new to the series, but neew to strategic games as a whole. He says that casual gamers should stay away, and he's right. This isn't a casual game, it's a real game. One that actually requires that you think. And though I don't have an opinion on it's dificulty since I haven't played it, I still say he's a dumbass because I highly doubt that an average person could die in the first chapter on EASY more than once. And if the graphics were on par with the N64, the characters would be blocks. Period.

Sacred Stones is the 8th. Fire Emblem: Rekka No Ken (the GBA game known simply as "Fire Emblem" outside of Japan) is the 7th. He's referring to the very first game in the series (released for the NES, only in Japan), which is currently being remade for the DS.

I was acctualy refering to all three. I'm well aware that Fire Emblem is number 7 in the series, and I still think it is the best, at least of the ones I have played, which is all english releases except RD. I just think the story is one of the best.

Y'know, after playing through all the American released FEs, I can now show you a "diagram" of the most difficult to the least difficult:

FE10 > FE7 Hector Hard Mode > FE9 Hard Mode > FE9 = FE7 >>> FE8

Like I said before, Radiant Dawn wasn't that hard for me, at least, but it's obviously more difficult than FE7-FE9.

I never played Easy mode on any game for as long as I can remember, but damn, Easy mode is waaaaaay too easy. O.o

Radiant Dawn allows you to use all three controller types. The Wiimote actually works really well, so I'm not bothering with the GC controller.

Radiant Dawn uses no aspect of the Wiimote's motion sensor whatsoever. It would suck if it did. You just use the Wiimote like a regular controller.

Just played FE:RD on my Wii. The graphics in the first cutscene are AMAZING. They border on FF graphics imo. However, the graphics look a bit choppy in the battlescenes. But the graphics on the map are a step up from PoR.

And I can see why some people might find normal mode hard, if they haven't played an FE game before, but ANYONE who thought that the first level was hard on easy mode, is *** and stupid. The first level in RD was about as hard for me as the first level in PoR, but the head bandit guy could have easily taken out at least one of your guys if you didn't know quite what you were doing.

Anyway, so far it's pretty good, but I'm dissapointed with the look of some of the menues. The PoR menues looked a lot better in my opinion.

[EDIT] DANG. Normal mode is pretty hard. The first level was easy, the second one I BARELY scrape by, by one square. The third one is kinda hard, but it'll be really hard if reinforcements are sent in. However, easy mode's too easy.

[EDIT2] I'm haveing trouble getting my PoR save file to load properly for RD (you can transfer data for those who didn't know). It just freezes every time. And no, I didn;t use any cheats whatsoever.

If you transfer data to RD with an easy mode save the game freezes. Its some sort of a bug that happens to everyone. The only way I know around this is to either send your Wii & game to Nintendo to fix it or don't transfer data with a file on easy.

I've got a completed save file done in normal mode. I've got two other's in normal mode that are using the different stat increasing things (you can select random or fixed after the game's been completed), and the rest fo the slots are filled up with other games in Normal mode.

That's sad. Is Ike at level 20? If not, then just avoid him/defend as much as you can. No matter what, the fight will be over in two or three turns. But if you beat him, you get a really strong character added to your party. Also, you don;t stand a chance unless Ike has Aether(sp?) as one of his skills.

escout, what are your Ike's stats? It is true that it's a matter of sheer luck (two Aether's should be able to finish him), but Ike should statistically be able to pull it off at least a fourth of the time.

Also, if I remember correctly (it's been a year since I've played PoR), at level 20 promoted, Ike should max out strength, defense, speed, and skill.

If I remember right, it's either skill or luck that increases the chances of Aether working. It didn't work once for me, but I was always one space away. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Aether can't active from far range, Ike has to be directly next to the enemy unit to activate it.

It's like what Fury said before. If you have ANY Epilogue file on Easy on your memory card, you won't be able to transfer data unless you delete that file.

I finished RD for my sixth time. Four times on Normal, once on Hard, once on Easy. Hard mode is so fun.

Also, the % at which Aether activates is equal to his Skill, which should be capped at...28, I believe, by level 20.

ALL of the files are on easy mode. Only one is an Epilouge.

On the DS too. It also stars Marth, which coupled with his return in Brawl, should make an interesting impact. That said, if anyone's played FE1 (emulator + rom + patch, I presume), how does the storyline compare with the other games?

And damn, the first few levels of RD are kicking my ass. They are hard. But then, the characters are fairly weak and the death of just one results in a game over. I think I might start a new game on PoR, on normal, and deleate the old game. Then I can play it through and have save data to use on my next play through of RD. I'm takeing a break now so I can replan my stratagy for the level I'm on.

In the first level, I'm assuming you're having trouble with the boss. Have Miciah and your bow guy go in first and atack with long range, and then have your sword guy go in and defend (make sure he's completely healthy). On the next turn, attack with long range again, and that should do it. If not, have the bow guy go in and defend, and heal your sword guy with an item while makeing Miciah attack from long range.

For the second level, set it up so that your sword guy ccan only be attack by the two guys to the right, but also allow those two guys to attack Nolan. Make sure that Nolan and your sword guy are in a position to keep the enemies from reaching Miciah or your bow guy. Have the bow guy go to the house to the left of where you start and get the item, and then run to be in a position to back up Nolan. after you've cleared out the two guys on the right, and the two or three guys that were straight ahead of you, have Nolan move into a position where he can be attacked by all but the two guys at the exit, and the one guy in the top left of the map. Make sure you have the sword guy get the hand axe from the other building that's open, and have him give it to Nolan. Miciah should pretty much only be healing for this map.

Get the lance guy on your team, and then head to the right. Sothe should be at the front, and Nolan/Lance guy should both be in the rear staveing off stragglers. Healer stays in the Middle, and Miciah should stay close to Sother, bt JUST out of range from attacks at all times so Sothe can get the attack/defense/speed/whatever bonus that he gets from the support. When heading to the right, be aware of a few units. One of them is bound to get you, so put the strongest units up front. Well I just told him to get him because I wouldn't have survived unless I used him as a human shield to keep my weaker enemies that I wanted to keep, safe. And he wasn't even great at that. =/ His stat growths aren't all that phenomenal for me.

Leonardo sort of needs his bow to not fail, but when he get's his bow he can easily be on par with shinon and rolf.

My God, Radiant Dawn is great! This is the first game in a long while that get's me absorbed like this! I'm on part 3 right now, and so far I think that's the best part (also the easiest). Frankly, I didn't like Micaiah's part that much (or her as a fighter for the mather wtf man lv 5 promoted and she still has 12 Speed I even used a ****in' Speedwing!!) so at first the game didn't attract me that much, but now I can't stop playing! :)

I was about to complain about Soren a few days ago though, but aside from his rather crappy caps he still kicks ass! I love how they buffed his Strenght so he can use heavier tomes. Also, I began to like Gatrie, Shinon, Mia, Brom and Haar (omfg Haar ****in' RAPES now!) while I didn't liked them in Path of Ridiance. Also, I loved the mission where you had to burn down the Begnion army's supplies. ^^ Can't wait to get home and play it.

You just got Speed-screwed with Micaiah. Even with her lackluster Speed growth, she never stay that low most of the time. Most people get her Speed to 13 or 14 before promotion without a Speedwing. Actually, in my current playthrough, my Micaiah's Speed is 17 at level 14 and I don't Battle Save abuse. :P
