That's because the router's your connecting to don't have ports forewarded for use by the bittorrent client.

Next time you connect to router wirelessly, go to your network conections folder thingy, right click on the connection that you're using, go to status, and look for the IP adress. It will probably be something like "192.168.1.1xx". Take off the last two digits of the IP adress (the x's in my example), and type the adress in your browser. It should take you to the router's configuration page. From there, look for something that has to do with port forwarding, and forward a port on the IP adress you're using. In the prefrences in the bittorrent client you're using, type the same port. I'd suggest using a port between 56000 and 65532.

If it still doesn't work, you'll have to give the bittorrent client you're using access to the internet in your firewall, because it's probably blocking theconnection.

I am well aware that that is a fairly cague descritpion. :P It'd help more if I new the model of the router you're using.

Don't worry about the port forwarding thing. As long as you're downloading respectable torrents, you shouldn't have problems. Plus, the chance of getting hacked is pretty low even without forewarding ports, and as for trojans, as long as you have a virus scanning/terminating software, you should be fine.
