so basically you take an english word, think of the fanciest synonym for it (because it's most likely closest to the latin root) and then think about how it would be pronounced if it were french and voila! you can speak french XD

Latin - French derivatives seem to be pretty standard, what sucks is when one begins to encounter Latin - French - English derivatives, since the French manage to screw it up along the way.

For example, the English word "duel" comes from the Latin for war, "bellum," but they don't look anything alike, it's just that the French step along the way went and screwed everything over. XD

French and English actually aren't similar at all. French is a romance language, derived from Latin, while Engish is Germanic. It seems similar because English was developed relatively recently, therefore it gained a lot of cognates because it ripped off a lot of words from exsisting languages.

You know what? French 1 took me surprisingly far.

I went to France to take a few French lessons there, and one of them was a song unit, and I couldn't understand it for crap.

That's my experience with French songs, right there. One of them was a good song, but guess what? I didn't understand it. I was even looking at a lyric sheet right in front of me, and those written words just did not connect with the sung.

There were a lot of Japanese people in that class, I recall.

whiiich I can't really explain in any of the terms you guys appear to be using for french.

if you took french to the end of high school, you would be french 20IB. Plus I was french 30IB B, which is one above ab initio, and one below A sooo they expect me to be able to read french books and watch french movies and understand them, but the level of response that we have to give is not quite the same as if you were writing in english. So not a commentary/essay, like a step below, whatever the heck that is.

Anyway, I was watching this interestingscientific show thing on TV earlier today. Apparently Neutrinos do have mass and don't travel at the speed of light. Huh.

If neutrinos didn't have mass, then they wouldn't be able to oscillate between electron, muon, and tau nutrino states. It's obvious that they CAN do that, though, since te sun only emits electron nutrinos, yet we still recieve nutrinos of all three kinds from the direction of the sun. Also, when cosmic rays strike atoms in the earth's atmosphere, nutrinos are created which then fly through the earth. However, not all nutrinos can make it all the way through earth and to the other side (as proven by sensors located in a mountain in Japan). If they had no mass, then nutrinos would treat the earth like empty space and fly right through with no problem. However, that is not the case.

Thus, since neutrinos have mass, and can osillate, they obviously cannot be traveling at the speed of light (otherwise time relative to the nutrinos would be stopped, thus preventing oscillation).

Also, a theory suggests that all matter came from decaying neutrinos. Basically, they decayed and created mterial suitable for creating protons/neutrons/etc. Neutrinos would have to have mass for this to occur, though.

And to all of you simple minded peoples, you will not find that exact description anywhere else on the web. Those are my own words.

Neutrinos are created in nuclear reactions (like the center of the sun). If the big bang was what the universe came from, then the big bang created neutrinos in the blast, which then created other matter. At last, that's what I got out of it. I'm probably wrong though.

No, I study it on occaision though. I find it pretty interesting.

I'm in Cumulative Science 1 atm (basically, everything you learned in middleschool is elaborated on, and you learn a bit about atoms). It's mind numbingly boring. I wish I could've just went straight to physics. D: I need the knowledge for a project I'm working on.
