The roster definitely had potential to do more, and in that sense it disappoints. There's no doubt. But considering everything else this game has to offer (I swear I'd buy it just for the beautifully orchestrated music tracks alone), it's certainly not going to destroy how fun this game will be.

It's a shame that it's like a repeat of Melee's roster... It just asks for more. It just feels incomplete, and I really don't think that Sakurai got all of it done that he wanted too. ^_^
BTW, I'm pretty sure that it has been confirmed that if you hold R or something ZSS will be playable from the start of the match.

Skidz, first thing I'm doing when I get Brawl is play a 1 on 1 duel with my younger brother, he with Metaknight and myself with Pit.

It looks as though Ness is to Lucas as Roy is to Marth. Ness's moves (according to the Dojo)0 are a bit slower, but are more powerful. However, Ness has PK Flash (I'm guessing this is the same as PK Pulse from SSBM, but I don't know), while Lucas has PK Freeze instead. Also, Ness has a yoyo and Lucas doesn't. Lucas has a snake thingy that can grab ledges and Ness doesn't. Also, I don't know about Ness, but Lucas's back arial is supposed to me a meteor smash. But even their PK Fire's are different. Lucas's PK Fire travels in a straight line and explodes, while Ness's doesn't fo straight (I think) and scores multiple hits instead of explodeing.
So it looks as if Lucas is a Luigified version of Ness.

Just out of interest, am I the only one who looks encouraged by what I've seen? I know I'm not exactly an expert Smash Bros player and can't pick out the apparent problems that all you guys see, but it looks pretty and I'm happy with that.

@ Skidz: I enjoyed the burnout Paradise demo more than i've enjoyed any other racing game before. Seriously, it's basically free roaming a gargantuan city in a car doing what ever you want; race people online just by dropping into their city; look for secret areas. It has an incredible amount of depth for a car game.
@ Laharl: Really? I thought it would be based off the demo, which wasn't too great. But i've never played a DMC so I have nothign to compare it with.

Because they're different characters, and a different moveset wouldn't fit well. Plus, people asked for more representation of some franchises, such as StarFox or Earthbound.
And not all characters that look like clones are true clones. It's not like Captain Falcon and Ganondorf from Melee who's only difference is their strength/speed. Lucas and Ness have quite a few differences.

[EDIT] DUDE! I found SSE footage!
Basically, it's a giant map with some floating continents, and the map is covered in green flags. There's a round blackish purple orb in the background.
Right now the guy is doing a level on normal with Ganondorf and Marth. It appears to be some sort of temple labrynth.

[EDIT 2] DANG. Rob's recovery is INSANE. He just used his FS!
[EDIT 3] Toon link has a dark costume. It's black skin with white hair and red eyes.
[EDIT 4] Ice Climber's FS not only shoots an iceberg through the stage, but anyone who touches the stage or iceberg takes damage (except the ice climbers).
[EDIT 5] New match just started, Bowser, Peach, Olimar, Lucario.
Holy crap, the gooey bomb is like, a nuke or something. XD Bowser got the FS ball, and then got K.O.'d
The laser gun from SSBM is back, and it looks about the same.
That one magnet crab thingy from Ruby/Saphire is in as a pokeball, he uses stomp or earthquake. I can't tell which.
Olimar's FS is pretty good, but wow. The scenery on Final Destination is AMAZING.
[EDIT 6] LUCARIO JUST GOT AN FS BALL! He flies a ways above the stage and uses hyperbeam, and it can be directed. It did 25% damage in a split second, but the guy using him could only land one hit on olimar.
[EDIT 7] DANG. Dedede is a tank! He K.O.'d Ike at 60% with a tackle. DEDEDE GOT AN FS BALL......wow. that was ghey. He just kinda sings and dances in one spot, and somehow people go flying off the stage....Ike's FS was epic though.
[EDIT 8] He's just in his friends list atm. I jotted down his Wii Code. XD
[EDIT 9] New match, Kirby vs. Pikachu. Pikachu has a new move (throws the enemy onto his back and shocks him repeatedly), but it looks like Kirbay's moves are all still the same.
[EDIT 10] I switched feeds. This guy just started a multiman brawl and got KO'd the second the match started. XD He was using Jiggly.
D: Now he's just looking at his messages on his Wii....
[EDIT 11] Diddy vs. Lucairo is on antoher feed. Diddy's recover is pretty good, but Rob's still beats it. OMFG. Lucario has the freaking shadow ball as a move. D: It's different this time thoguh, it goes straight instead of jumping around, and it's blue.
And as someone somewhere once said, Diddy can really put the hurt on you. XD He'll probably end up in the High Tier or better on Smashboards or something, but I could care less. He's awesome.
Lucario's really good as well. He's got some hard hitting moves. The shadow ball is one of them.
Diddy's peanut gun isn't very powerful. I'm not sure if it has rapid fire though, but I'd guess that it does.
Oooo...Lucario won with two lives left. But the batle was pretty epic.
[EDIT 12] I got some more Brawl codes. 3 complete ones so far. New match is starting too. He's using G&W. It's G&W vs. Luigi in a mario outfit. Hmm....I wasn't paying close attentiion, but I think Ganondorf just joined mid-match.
G&W Got a FS ball. His squid form lasts for a good while, but the attacks are weak. You can jump, but his tentacles move by themselves doing only about 10% or 15% per hit. Luigi has the same moves, and he also won the match.
However, I misstated something earlier. The gooey bomb has a fairly small explosion, I'm not sure what item causes the big one.
[EDIT 13] New match, Falcon, Ice Climbers, Falco, Dedede. Dedede got the golden hammer! It moves a LOT faster than the regular hammer, but I don't know how strong it is since he got K.O.'d
OMG! The landmaster tank owns!! If someone jumps on top of it, you can jump and it will push them so far up, that they get star K.O.'d. The landmaster shoots large "energy missles" that are actually fairly easy to dodge. But the jumping thing is....wow. All you have to do is push everyone off to one side of the stage and jump when they try to jump over you. It'll K.O. 'em.
Dedede's FS is alright I guess. He summoons a bunch of Waddle Dee's that run around really fast knock people back whom they run into. K.O.'s people pretty easy actually.
XD Falco got a squeaky golden hammer.
New item: Metal crates can be thrown like the head of a broken hamer can be in Melee. They do a lot of damage.
[EDIT 14] Just got two more Brawl Codes. That's 5 so far.
Lucario has a black and white costume. The white replaces the blue, and the black stays the same.

Snake looks pretty deadly if you can master him, and R.O.B.'s Up+B IS insane. I've seen all the FSes, and Ganon's is wayover powered. R.O.B's, you can just sit on the edge and until the FS stops, they ain't coming back up.

He uses Chaos Control to slow down everyone but the user.

Pit appears to be really good for coin battles. He's got a move that hit's many multiple times in a row, and it sends craploads of coins flying. Also, pits black costume is awesome.

These are all pictures of Isaac, who uses Move to push other people around. Honestly, I think that Move is a really good choice for his AT performance, despite it being a simple field Psynergy.

And Move is the attack because it's unique and highly recognizable to Golden Sun. It basically acts like Master Hand swiping his hand across the course it looks like, pushing off everything on ground/hand level. Awesome awesome.
And I'm glad his model looks so good! Most assist trophies, well...

So yes, Isaac is blocky, but for his first 2d to 3d transition, and given the constraints on assist trophies, he looks great!

Well Master Hand is a boss again. Final Destination looks pretty cool, but they overused space a bit. Still looks good though.

But really, it's gonna happen at some point, I just doubt it will start with Smash. And even if they did, they're not going to have it right after the release. Give it a few months and maybe, but not so close after release.

@ GL-But it wouldn't really undermine all that work. It would be a great way to keep the game gonig for an even longer time than it normally would. Like, every month, they coem out with something new. Not nessecarily big, but just a new addition. Maybe one month some music, the next month, an event, and then once in a while, a stage or a character.

I dont think it really needs downloadable content. It's not neccessary, it doesnt add much to it and it's a lot of wasted efforts if only a few games will be compatible.

Consoles don't have that except The Forge in Halo 3, Stage Creator in Brawl, and the Map editor in Advance Wars, but those don't count. (it's not really modding) Other than that you actually have to hack your consoles and software to customize your games, and it's not easy to do without specific instructions.

Downloadable content wouldn't be all that bad, but after a while, the game would just be overbloated with crap. It's like takeing a really nice bike, and drenching it in tassles and bells, and whole bunch of other stuff. I'd still like to see downloadable content, but NOT once a month, that's way too often. I'd suggest once every two or three months. 4 or 5 years with 4 to 6 additions per year still seems like a bit much though. I'd really like to see the possibility of some custom stages being turned into real stages, and then being put up as downloadable content. That'd be pretty awesome.
And the PSP's only redeeming factor, is that you can do stuff like what Skidz mentioned. It's easy to make games that can be played on it thanks to the emulators available, and the way it's OS works.
As for the update, I'd like to point out the light processing once again. Notice how the positions of the shadows on the stage change with the scenery.
