Seriously though it doesn't look great does it? Even for something from 10 years ago. It seems a bit lazy to take a bunch of characters from well known games and put them into one fighting game just to get money.

Assist Trophies are a new item in Brawl. The player that uses it effectively releases a CPU controller character that fights independently alongside them, for a short period of time. According to Sakurai, they tend to be fairly powerful too, and Assist Trophies are used to include characters that he couldn't put in the actual roster, for whatever reason.

Chuck Norris is real. I've met him before, in person. He's a really cool guy, hard to beleave he's in his sixties now. The only sad thing is, I have no proof that I met him, no photo, no atuograph, nothing. But it was still cool to meet him. I think my reaction was somthing like, "Hey, your Chunk Norris." And he said something like, "Yes, I am." Then I ended up telling him how I thought he was the ****, and how his show kicked ass and totaly sounded like an insaine fan. Finally! A really good one player mode was one of the things I was hoping for the most in brawl, and it looks like we've got one. The graphics in the game just look so more realistic! And that even though so many characters are cartoony or not even human (Mario, Kirby, Fox,etc.). I just find that pretty amazing.

My fault, just wanted to make that clear. It is a pretty interesting set-up though, I especially like how grabs are added to the trigger button.

As for the poll, I'm definitely most excited about the Wiimote only controls. While I agree nothing could beat the GameCube controller, I've been using a Wiimote and imagining myself playing... it's comfortable, small, and if done right, I think it could very well be the best.

I voted for the Wiimote and Nunchuk combo. After sinking a solid 18+ hours (still not finished, maybe about 40 hours needed) into the Godfather Blackhand edition, I really appreciated what the control system can be like. (After I compared it to my friends Xbox version). So I am quite excited to see the Wiimote and Nunchuk, and just the Wiimote (I don't think there are enough buttons!).
But most likely I will use the GC controller just for conventiality.(sp?)

Personally I think so, but that's based on my belief that the series got dull after more were added. It doesn't matter though. They'll be used as items in the same way they were in melee.

The Trainer is in the background, issuing commands to the Pokemon. The Pokemon fight, they receive damage.

And btw, this is the official website for all updates on the new Smash game. If you don't mind finding out some stuff about it before you play it, I suggest you look through it and read on the past updates, which reveal some new characters, stages, and other very interesting stuff. Plus, it's also updated every weekday (5 times a week), so it'll definitely keep you going until the game is finally released in December. :ph34r:

That;s probably the reason they chose that particular trainer and those pokes. They're much more recognized then any others (besides pikachu). Personally, I'm glad they chose this setup for the Pokemon Trainer than any other. And they obviously didn't use pikachu because more than likely he'll be returning.

Well, if stamina is any indication, Pokemon Trainer might actually have a huge disadvantage. If they share a damage meter, and each have their own stamina, he might in fact be the most difficult character to master.

Like WD mentioned above, there is a stamina meter for each Pokemon. That means that you can't rely on any one Pokemon for too long, but you also can't keep switching them back and forth quickly... there's a balance, and a pretty unique one at that.

It's an unusual addition to the cast, but it's so different, that I think it should be welcomed.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but the thing is Brawl will have more characters than Melee, and there were four new characters in Melee's starting roster(not counting Sheik). It's hard for me to believe that there will be only three new fighters in the Brawl starting roster(not counting Zamus), seeing as Snake will almost definitely be hidden. So in the end, I wouldn't be surprised if Ike and Trainer are playable from the beginning. I just wish they could say whether or not this is true on the Brawl website...

We've still got about 3 and 3/4ths of a month left. Chances are there will probably be more added to the starting roster. Or well, changed to starting. Snake and Ike I can see being hidden. Pokemon trainer is a weird one so it would be hard to figure if you would start with him or have to unlock. Although if they're going to announce a character, I'd hope that you start with them. Cause nobody likes unlocking secret characters knowing who they are months before release.

As for the Trainer guy, it's exactly what I've been looking for in Brawl. Something fresh and new, that hasn't been overdone millions of times. I'm still hoping for a more origional level. I mean, sure, the FE one has like, three levels that you fall to every now and then, but I want something dynamic like Hyrule Temple from SSBM. Not just a flat stage with a few floating panels, because we've got tons of those. I want something that has slopes and pitfalls, and different levels, just like Temple had. But I don't want it's layout to be like Temple's I want something new.

Basically, I'm for whatever they put into Brawl as long as it's new, unrepetitive, and not totally retarded.

I agree with Toasty. Although I don't like that Trainer they chose and the Pokemon they chose for him, I think the basic concept is an excellent and original idea.

Stickers? I was hoping the new trophies would be trading cards... And that each copy of Brawl would have some that many others wouldn't and you would have to trade online to get them all. Sort of like Wild World.

And finally something about F-Zero! Samurai Goroh and Red Gazelle are there. I was starting to wonder what has happened to Captain Falcon... and I'm still wondering.

Oh come on, this is a pretty neat update. In fact, considering that it's rare for games to even have continually updated blogs, let alone all this information, I'd say we should appreciate the updates more.

Besides, we can't just have Sakurai give us all the "good" updates in one sitting. How nice would it be if tomorrow, he revealed all the newcomer characters he would have revealed before the game's release? That might last you a few days of euphoria, but it'll die down. I'm still unsure on whether Isaac/Felix will be in Brawl.

On one hand, Isaac was in the top ten of the most wanted characters for SSBB, I believe, GS and TLA both sold really well, and had great reviews, many people remember GS and it's characters.
On the other hand, GS isn't a mainstream Ninty brand like Metroid, Mario, or LoZ, he seems like he'd be more of a 3rd party character (in my opinion) even though he isn't, there's still a lot of people who don't know who he/they is/are, so he wouldn't be the first person to come to mind when adding characters to Brawl.

Good analysis there. I will point out that Fire Emblem was still only a Japan-exclusive franchise when they took the risk of adding Marth and Roy to Melee - and look how popular they turned out. Considering GS has actually been released everywhere, it's exposure is more international, and by that logic, Isaac/Felix should have a greater chance of appearing in Brawl than Marth/Roy would have had in Melee.

But that's just my perspective. It's really that there hasn't been word on a future GS3 that's hurting their chances... bah.

And, not many people knew who the hell Marth and Roy were when SSBM came out, but they were popular characters anyway.

So with that logic, I can't see why Isaac or Felix wouldn't be good additions. But I don't know if Nintendo knows that.

Isaac would be a truly great addition to Brawl, and not only because I want him to be in the game. His A moves would have him swing his sword, his four B moves would see him using Psynergy and his grab can be a distant one(sort of like Samus and Link), with the Move and Lift hand appearing in front of him.

However, I doubt he will make the cut.

Anyhow, it's good to see Peach back, and it's even better to see Toad is still one of her attacks, since that probably means he will not be a playable character. And that is a good thing.

Final Smash: Judgment.

In terms of strength, awesomeness, and fighting skill:
Special Olympics entrees > Ridley.

And WD, that's pretty much what I was getting at. But, FE characters had a higher chance of getting into Melee because they had future games comming out. Golden Sun, on the other hand, doesn't (as far as we know) have any future titles in the works. So the only thing that will get GS characters in is fame and fans. Fortunately, Isaac scored high enough in the polls to stand a chance. Unfortunately, GS isn't as famous as others like I've mentioned before. But then again, when Melee was out, that was true for FE as well, but still, *points to previous refrence of FE in paragraph*.

Anyway, Isaac's moveset:

A: Slash
A side: Stronger Slash
A up: Stabs the air (just like Marth/Roy)
A Down: Same as Marth/Roy
A Smash up: Stabs the air + Stone spire rises quickly out of the ground
A Smash Side: Quick Strike (psyenergy)
A Smash down: Same as Marth/Roy + small, short earth quake eminates around Isaac

B: Titan Blade (Gaia Blade's unleash)
B side: Uses Flint
B up: Megiddo
B down: Grand Gaia

Final Smash: Judgement

I'm going back to the two new characters and the question of whether they are hidden.

Why I think they might be playable from the start:

- Brawl is going to have more characters than Melee. Melee's starting roster had four new characters(not counting Sheik). If Ike and Trainer are hidden, this would mean that Brawl will have only three new characters playable right away(not including Zero Suit Samus). Snake will be hidden, that's a fact now.

- Pokemon Trainer is 'different' to other fighters in the same way that the Ice Climbers and Zelda were different, and they were both playable from the start. That is why I believe Trainer may be in the starting lineup.

Why I think they might be hidden:

- The "Warning! Character Approaching" signs that appear above these characters on the Brawl site are big and obviously there to warn people of spoilers. But knowing who the starting fighters are isn't really a spoiler, is it?

- The two of them don't seem to appear in any other screenshots on the Brawl site afterwards, let it be a new item or whatever. Probably so that people who saw the above mentioned sign wouldn't and didn't look at the new character wouldn't have it spoiled for them.

So, all in all, I have absolutely no idea what the truth is. What do you think?

I really don't care who is hidden. As long as they're not impossible to unlock, Mewtwo took ages, and Ness and/or Fox/Falco, Link or Samus are unlocked I don't care. New characters don't rank up to the orginals.

I think Peach was there to finish off all of the veterans. Any characters that will be starters will probably be new. I could be very wrong though, as Ness has had an item revealed, but he's not been revealed, so nobody knows if he'll be hidden or not.

And what's happened to Metroid? We have samus, Zamus, and a final smash. That's it. Where's Ridley or Dark Samus?

I'm hoping this week that they reveal one of the most popular characters. Either Ridley, Krystal, Dedede or Diddy. Probably not sonic, because if he's in, then they're gonna want to keep him as secret as possible.

That brings me onto another idea: Who do you think the wtf character for Brawl will be? In the original it was Ness, and in Melee it was G&W. I think it's gonna be ROB, as he has appeared in a few games now recently ( F-Zero GX, Mario Kart DS). If not ROB, then Sonic, which isn't really wtf as people expect him.

And as for Link's moves, sweet! Now we dont have a lame bow that you have to charge for hours, and the boomerang looks awesome. Bombs haven't seemed to change, and the charge spin attack could turn out cool. If you can charge it in mid-air, then it would be awesome for uber recovery.

@Nosferatu: I disagree. I'm pretty sure they'll announce Sonic before the game is released, because that is what everybody wants to see, and many people would be talking about it, which would be perfect for helping the anticipation and even sales of Brawl.
