Norther - Mirror of Madness (album)

Been a while since, and I think I've only done it once, that I played this album all the way through. It's not as good as the first time around but because I've been playing their first album a lot, though still some very fine Finnish melodic death metal. Psyched for Jan 26th when the new album ("Till Death Unites Us) comes out, a day after In Flames new one 'Come Clarity' is released. "Dead" is playing now, pretty good song too.

My favourite death metal song of all time. The lyrics contain no emotion or remorse. Just straight out aggression and hatred. A fantastic song to thrash out to. Love the 15 second scream at the end, you won't find a longer one anywhere.

new album, and a bit of a departure from their last 2 albums. It's slower, has a lot of quiet portions, and heavier guitars. There were only a few songs I liked at first but it's grown on me over the last week. Whenever I listen to something else I find myself wanting to go back to this album.
"Spring" is probably my fav atm...

Fourth track from the unreleased 'Come Clarity' due early next year. This is by far my favourite song. The female vocals add an especially nice touch.

^ Tis a fantastic album, though I prefer the guitar work on Something Wild and Hatebreeder. Alexi's vocals are so much more developed and better sounding on the new album I found though.

Old Man's Child.

I've just finished playing through all my tracks again (All of 'Vermin', 'In Defiance of Existance', 'Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion' as well as scattered tracks off 'The Pagan Prosperity' [yet to rip the whole album] and 'Revelation 666'). Truly one of the best Norwegian Black Metal bands, Galder is a musical genious.

Description: I first discovered this song while aimlessly slumping around a TV store. The music video was playing on a few of 'em and I was hooked. After watching a few of their other videos, it let me to ponder whether the band actually existed. They didn't even turn up at that music festival a short while ago. Just a bunch of puppets. Hilarious. :P

Anyway, I really love the sort of moody feel of the song, the guitarist lazily strumming the notes, with an occasional synthesized 'ding' sound. Is that really synthesized? Hmmm...

Bit of a contrast. This is really symphonic power metal. No real fast drumming, no death vocals. Really classical, melodic, and symphonic. Love the violins and synthesised parts. Good solo as well.

Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety

Finally got the whole damn thing. There are some really good punchy and catchy riffs in the songs. So far a very solid album, though I can't give a full rating yet. Singers are good, and they have the whole Atrey thing going with the drummer singing and another singer as well. Good harsh (I wouldn't call them metal) vocals and same goes for the clean singing. No outstanding guitar or drum work, just good catchy music in the same vein as Senses Fail/My Chemica Romance/The Used.

Imperanon - Stained (album)

Holy **** this album is good! Me being a diehard Melodic Death Metal fan this album is nothing that I haven't heard before, but it's flawlessly done. Fantastic guitar solos, great use of keyboard (sounds very piano-ish though) solid drumming (fast and slightly technical in parts). It seems to be very guitar driven though with strong, fast, and technical leads. And to top it all off it's Finish, so they obviously take influence from Kalmah and Norther, who learned from the best of the best, Children of Bodom. All in all it seems to be a very fantastic album (I'm only on track 4 though).

wow, been ages since I listened to this guys stuff. His best songs have been used in the matrix movies; Clubbed to Death was used in the first Matrix (anyone who doesn't recognise this song after hearing it should be shot), Furious Angels (instrumental version) in Reloaded, I'm Not Driving Anymore (instrumental version) for the trailer and menu music of Reloaded, and lastly Chateau was a new composition for, yes, Reloaded :unsure:.
The rest of his stuff is very different. Far more orchestral and less beat-centric. I doubt anyone here would like it, lol.

Carpathian Forest - Hymne Til Døden

From the album 'Defending the Throne of Evil'. This band is real, true, Norwegian Black Metal. Misanthropic, anti-religious, and with a bleak outlook upon pretty much everything. An extremely brutal vocalist, one of the best of any BM band I would say. And the melodics over the top of the songs adds a nice and almost eerie touch to otherwise unmelodic repetetive black metal songs. Some of the lyrics are very cool, and very intellectual in parts, and a couple of songs are done entirely in Norwegian. Good stuff, not for the faint of heart though.

Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon (album)

I finally own a Dimmu album. Now I can wear my shirt with extra pride ;P (as I am now). This is my equal favourite album of theirs along with Puritania Euphoric Misanthropia. Silenoz is a genius at writing intelligent and hard hitting lyrics, and this album is definately their most symphonic/orchestral album, thanks to Mustis (keys). Great album start to finish, amazing drumming as well.

Theatre of Tragedy - Phantom of the Opera

I don't like this song as much as the other few I listened to before it (Cassandra, which brings back memories of playing Kirbies Dreamland 2 when I was 9, Episode, and Flickerlight). This is a very, different, band. Kind of Gothic Metal. No insane drumming, solos, or death vocals.

They have 2 clean singers, male and female, and some electronic/synth sounds. Wierd, but I don't mind it at all.

They come across as the kind of band Sheba would enjoy *hint hint*.

As the album title suggests, this is extreme anti-christian/anti-religious/satanic music. I don't mind some of the lyrics, but I also found some are over the top. Glen Benton from Deicide takes care of the vocals, which makes this album automatically awesome. Drums are insanely fast, and there are a few good solos in there as well.

Dark Tranquillity - Haven (album)

Finally got the whole damn album. And it's good even though I already knew that from the 5 tracks I had. It's intelligent metal. Intricate and complex song structure, tame guitar and drum work, well written lyrics and the mature use of electronics that compliments the rest of the music. A very enjoyable album.

Sheol basically means 'the resting place of departed spirits'. And this albums is great so far! It has the same pace as the subsequent release Pariah, and also has good recording quality etc. And I can see that they are gonna become one of my favourite bands very soon because these 2 albums I both got today are freakin kickass. Very catchy Swedish black metal.

There are a couple of good solos, and the addition of clean vocals is ok, but overall this 5 track EP is **** in comparison the previous 3 albums. I just hope the new album that's out in a month or so doesn't continue this downward spiral.

One of the pioneer bands of the Gothenburg sound in the early 90's, though this is off there last album ('95). A real shame they broke up. Oh well, the guitarists went off to start the haunted, and the vocalist has been in numerous other bands since so his talent hasn't gone to waste.

I love these lyrics (READ THEM!). Such hatred towards mankind I can really connect with at times (note the 'at times'). fantastic riff throughout the chorus, and the vocals are top notch, I can't tell the new singer from the singer on this album (Sheol). Anyway, best song off the album, and one of my favourites off the now 3 albums I have by this amazing Swedish black metal group.

One of my favourite songs off 'The End of Heartache'. They're all good, but this is one of my favourites. Howard's clean singing is great in this track.

Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin (album)

Real American metalcore. Distortion on guitars, but they don't really sound heavy. Metal vocals, but they don't sound too heavy either. There is some double kick, but mostly the drumming is punk in style. Very good album though, some good and very catchy guitar riffs in there. And these guys are supposed to be one of the veteran metalcore bands, having been around since the genre really started to take off. I really like this album

Misery Signals - Of Malice and the Magnum Heart (album)

This band reminds me a lot of 'Between the Buried and Me'. Really avantgarde metalcore. Soft parts thrown into the middle of an otherwise crazy songs, technical drum fills coming out of nowhere, leads that are different to the song entirely, but still fit in perfectly.

Death - The Sound of Perseverance (album)

Old school metal. Though this is there latest studio album ('97 I think). I like it so far, the singer has a pretty unique sound, and the guitar leads are quite nice. Drumming is solid too. I'm impressed as I'm not a huge fan of old school metal.

Drowning Pool - Let the Bodies hit the Floor

As I've stated in the past, I like a wide variety of music. Anything from dance techno to death metal. I only hate Rap and Country. Anyways the song is pretty good, Im listening to it to see how it will work for our next Guild Video for MapleStory. Our guild isnt pussies that use *** japaneese stuff, LOL. Its very good headbanging music.
