Funny you should ask. Let me state for the record, that rap DJ's have no talent, and that is ALL they do(spinning and stopping the records). Mixing for techno takes alot of talent, and involves pitch changing, 2 records playing at once at the same tempo, and adding lyrics in, which have to match the speed of the beat palying, or it will sound like complete ****. To make it as a good DJ, you have to learn how to make your own beats aswell(which I'm not the best at, that's why I've basically kept to mixing so far).

To switch songs on the mixes, you have two songs going at once, one that is playing through the speakers, and one that is playing through your headphones. To be able to mix them in together, and go from one song to another, you have to have the tempos perfect when you switch, or the people will notice.

Everytime I play a set with another person, I always try and talk to them, so I can learn how to make my own beats. DJ Fritzy has taught me alot, and hopefully I can play a set with him one day. He's sent me alot of sample beats to paly around with and master.
