Anyone who says Dimebag Darrel (may he rest in peace) wasn't one of the greatest guitarists of all time is a musical novice. Pantera to this day still hold the title of producing one of the most solid sounds in metal. Everything is well produced, well written. The singer is just awesome, considering he used to be an opera singer :angry: . Anyway, I'm babbling...

Why I never got into this band earlier is a total mystery to me. They are in the same vein as In Flames, with a touch of Lamb of God and Pantera at the same time, while keeping a melodic sound similar to Dark Tranquillity. Fantastic singer who does amazing hard rock and clean vocals. I reccomend this band to anyone who likes hard rock or melodic death metal (ahem, Sheep).

Now, there's a band that I really admire. It's called Avenged Sevenfold. I think it's amazing. In one album they have metal, mixed with more old-school drum beats, with death metal, with punk, and melodic stuff.

The only cd I have from them is Waking the Fallen. I rate it 10/10.

-Slipknot: i dunno the name of the cd, but it's the one that has like an x-rayed skull, with a series of numbers below it...anyways, here's the rating: 5/10
Why? slipknot must be the only band that has 3 drummers. For some, it might be cool, for me, it's overkill. Some songs are simply PLAGUED by the friggin drum lines, which are sometimes all different, thus making RYTHM nonexistent. I'd say "it's too repetitive", but that applies to most hardcore bands, so, no biggie. Still, what makes it seem even more repetitive is that the opening sequences to the songs are based on "formulas". There's only 2 types of "openings" to the songs in the cd. Most songs in a hardcore cd are similar in GENERAL, but at least most don't have similar openings.

-Full Blown Chaos: Wake the Demons: 8/10
-Trust me, if you like really heavy music, this is MOST DEFINITELY something you'd want to listen to. A very interesting thing about this album, and it's the first time i've seen something like this, is that only ONE (1) song is "radio-like", or sounds more mainstream. Most underground bands make their cd's much unlike mainstream bands. Basically, this song is kinda stepped down a notch from the rest of the album, the beat, the guitars and the lyrics are a lot more catchy, giving it a mroe "mainstream" feel. Now, to my next point, and what I love the most about this album: HUGE, and I mean HUMONGOUS break downs. Extremely slow beat, extremely hard guitar sound. Makes you wanna beat the crap of whatever's within your line of sight. And that's why i've yet to take that cd to school. I'd prolly get suspended.

pretty good lyrics...now, yet another album on the ehavier side of music:
-Atreyu: suicide notes and butterfly kisses: 7/10. Fairly good album. I don't like the vocals tho, the fact that they use distortion on the microphone bugs me. It'd sound just fine without the effects on the mic. Anyways, pretty interesting album. Although they seem to want to play as heavily as possible, some of their songs are too melo, and emotional, for a metal band. I don't like the fact that the whole album pretty much talks about relationship issues. Music-wise, the sound is pretty interesting. The guitar sound is like a trademark, cause they're pretty much the only band that sounds like that. The lead guitarist does some really cool soloes as well.Bass is close to nonexistent tho, you need bass booster to be able to hear it, wish they had done abetter job with the levels when mixing. The drums are ok-to-good. Finally, THE best song in the album, and in my opinion THE best song this band has, is "Lip gloss and black". It's a MUST-LISTEN. Amazing song.

as an album- 7/10. I think they could do so much better. Their lead guitarist is good, and they have a pretty good sound, but in my opinion, they should break away from their mainly "mainstream" sound, and just go a little bit heavier. Like, more underoath-ish. Then, they'd be quite a cool band.

WHAT ARE YOUT ALKING ABOUT?! Mcr's new cd is their best! The songs are really awesome, and their lyrics are just, o.o no words can describe how great they are...And their emo (emo is GOOD!!!)...not to mention their videos. Helena was sad, and I'm Not Okay was hilarious. But what about that song they did with the Used? 'Under Pressure'...And Gerard Way has an excellent voice.

Stratovarius - Stratofortress

Ok, here's how it goes:

Yes, it's just that good.

Instrumental by a band with one of the best guitarists ever to grace this earth. Love the way the feel of this song changes throughout the 3 minutes of musical perfection. That, and I'm a sucker for awesome guitar solos. I reccomend this especially to Eothain (Speed of Light is one one of the first Strat' songs I heard, love it) and of course Sheba (think Revontulet but longer and more awesome).

Anyway, that's my rant, this song rocks.

EDIT: omg, I just downloaded some Stratovarius songs (Speed of Light and Stratofortress included) and, wow, pretty damn awesome stuff XD. Took a bit to get used to the vocals, but it's like that with almost every band when you first listen.

listening to Mae's "The Everglow." A light song, but addicting lyrics and a nice beat. 10/10. It's stuck in my head, but it's one of those songs that you want stuck in your head.

@Izar: James (from Slipknot) is a shocking guitarist. Mick got better over the course of the three albums, but both were never really that good. I listen, or listened to Slipknot for the drums and vocals. Joey Jordison is an amazing drummer, and Corey is a very flexible singer. Granted, they can become repetetive at times, but the 3 albums are very different, so I guess it's just a matter of opinion. I personally think they are a top band overall. And if you want good guitar, listen to Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Opeth, In Flames, Alrum, Arch Enemy and that sort of music.

@Neon: Finland + Sweden + Norway are THE best countries for music. Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius) is a very unique singer. My eldest brother seems to think he hits every note wrong, but I think his voice grows on you, and Timo Tolkki (undoubtedly one of, if not the best guitarists ever) who founded the band, is the other main reason I listen to them. If you're getting more, I reccomend:

Destiny
Visions (bother 10 minute epics)
Black Diamond
Hunting High and Low
Phoenix
Anthem of the World

Those are the Strat' tracks that stand out for me.

13 Minute Epic from this band who seems to always do concept albums. Top band may I add. Also coming up on my playlist is Dark Tower of the Abyss and Wings of Destiny. Great power metal :P .
