Royce Da 5'9 - I Promise
if only royce could still drop a classic like death is certain. when he fell out with em and got dropped by dre he got an anger inside him which was released in tracks like this.
There's a void that needs to be filled inside this marketplace
You could die in my parkin space
My mom want me to blow up and house them
My father want me to bring product out without Slim
And prove them wrong - they paid my bills
I'm right on your heels, I'm for real, my shoes is long
To feed my son - I will leave you
leakin in the street, I will heat you to kingdom come
Uhh, the king will come
Wait 'til you gone in place of a angel appear to take you home
The beard on the face is gone
These bullets is straight razors, blazin you, case in point
Amaze the rap game, make 'em point
Walk inside of the house of the illest and case the joint
And take whatever I want, out of it
Now that I'm wise, my future rides on it, it's time for triumph

So the lyrics are totally bitter and angry ( "cause your heart is made of stone, you can die and rot alone".) BUT it's fun to go running to, I love the guitar solo in it, and the kind of rock is just generally my style.
though I only give it a 7 out of 10...

love these lyrics:
But you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window
Guess that's why they call it window pane

High off a love, drunk from my hate
It's like I'm huffing paint and I love her
The more I suffer, I suffocate
And right before I'm about to drown, she resussitates
Me, she fucking hates me and I love it, wait!
.. are, from thematic(?) and lyrical standpoint. of course mainstream listeners would fall head over heels for the shitty double entendre's-- "window pane/pain" or Won't Back Down's "brain dead rims, yeah stupid wheels".
not hating tho, love ya alyssa.

I think I already posted this one...too lazy to look though.
I hope you're unhappy and hurting inside
I want you to choke when you swallow your pride
Lay in your coffin and sleep with your sins
Give me the nails and I'll hammer them in
This time you won't be heard, you are gonna burn
It's funny how the table, how the table turns
You fake condemnation, you pray for salvation
'Cause your heart is made of stone, you can die and rot alone
One of my favorite running songs. I love the beat, love the guitar riffs, and of course, I love the lyrics. While BfmV is pretty much angry all the time, you can feel the emotion in this song. It's not just anger, but seething hatred while empowering at the same time. That, mixed with the lyrics, gives you no doubt what the song is about or how you're supposed to feel.

No, terrible song. Em goes offbeat every other bar, boring flow, monotone voice, content we've heard a million times before (and a million times better), and the rhyme scheme of a 5 year old. The song isn't impressive by any standards, and doesn't display Em's ability to write a decent song in the slightest.

it's mos def, nothing more to say.
I didn't hear about it, what happened? Btw, have you heard anything off of Mos Def's latest album, The Ecstatic?(Think it came out in '09). Some of it is really good, but I don't think it's on par with his older stuff.
Awesome that a couple of other people on this forum appreciate great hip hop.

There's a decent outline of what went down, but it shouldn't be too hard to find shit about it on line. It was huge news in the hip-hop community. After reading, it shouldn't be hard to come to the conclusion that Solar's full of shit.
And naw, I need to check that out. Wasn't even aware he dropped an album recently. I must be slipping if I miss a Mos Def album. I don't even need to listen to it to know he'll never be able to top his older stuff though.. Black Star was a classic.
And of course I appreciate Gangstarr.. Guru, though not that astounding as lyricist, can paint pictures with words, and Premier's one of the top 3 producers of all time along with J Dilla and 9th Wonder (alot of people put Pete Rock here but fuck that old 90's nigga). Dude produced one of, if not, my favorite beats;

See I'm a poet to some, a regular modern day Shakespeare
Jesus Christ the King of these Latter Day Saints here
To shatter the picture in which of that as they paint me
As a monger of hate and Satan a scatter-brained atheist
But that ain't the case, see it's a matter of taste
We as a people decide if Shady's as bad as they say he is
Or is he the latter - a gateway to escape?
Media scapegoat, who they can be mad at today
See it's easy as cake, simple as whistlin Dixie
While I'm wavin the pistol at sixty Christians against me
Go to war with the Mormons, take a bath with the Catholics
In holy water - no wonder they try to hold me under longer
I'm a motherfuckin spiteful, DELIGHTFUL eyeful
The new Ice Cube - motherfuckers HATE to like you
What did I do? (huh?) I'm just a kid from the gutter
Makin this butter off these bloodsuckers, cause I'm a muh'fuckin

perfect. 10/10.
I don't talk to God, as a matter of fact I plead with
At times I hate my reflection, and others I'm conceided
Half the time I'm arrogant, other times I'm veangeful
At times its to convince me, at times it to convince you
Done alot of wrong, but I ain't never felt resentful
It's been so many times I lost track of who to repent to
Half the time I'm in the cut, don't want you to notice me
Grow with me, and you will see I'm only awkward socially
So if you need a case and point, you can refer to Budden
And it'll prove the pain killers never murdered nothing
All it did was make me succumb, put ice in me make me numb
When I revisit the places it takes me from
My life was the craziest, suprised I'm even walking
Can you blame me if I'm Atheist, but I ain't Stephen Hawkin
I know God is in my radius, I can see him often
In the face of an inoccent baby, but not when Preachers talking
My people sleep in coffins, I miss em, I'm breakin down
In the face of a bad bitch, that I'm supposed to be taking down
They hit me with everything but the kitchen sink
How ironic ,same place I vomit when I lift a drink
Apparently I need to get a shrink
How can therapy take care of me, when I don't give a fuck what niggas think?

She loves the taste of pain,
And it's clear she's already used
I somehow find in her this easy, kind of love
This love is deepening
So shake it, shake it off
But my body’s needing it
Just watch her set me off!
