I thought I was well overdue for getting into this band, seeing as they've influenced just about every band I listen to in one way or another. Decent stuff too, old school, but still great guitar, drum and vocal work nonetheless.

Bodom's cover of Aces High. A faster pace, but the vocals are obviously much harder to understand and kinda detract from the song in this case.

H.I.M. - Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly
Off of their newest 2005 album, Dark Light.
They have a kind of a goth/soft rock/metal combo. It's quite unique. I like it.
I'd give this album of 10 songs a rating of 8/10. 4 of those songs are hits and it's easy to see, in my opinion.
And on a side note, a VERY good song by Relient K is "High of '75". ^_^

Anyway, this isn't the best song on the CD, but its good. For some really odd reason, I seeem to prefer CDs where there is no title track. Haha, I love metal noobs (don't fret, everyone is like that in the beginning). The solo is that song is ****ing pathetic; it's like something Trivium or Avenged Sevenfold would call "metal as ****" and then make obscure and irrelevant references to Metallica and other has-been thrash metal bands.

Nothing is worse than listening to Trivium >_> . Get 'Ashes of the Wake' by Lamb of God, Pariah is off the first album, and the first album is awful. Some killer tracks on Ashes though, such as Hourglass, The Faded Line, Blood of the Scribe, well, the whole album is great from start to finish.

Just goes to show that after 18 years, a band can still be doing essentially the same thing and still have it sound fresh and exciting. Brilliant album, I'm on my third listen now and loving it more with each time. For fans of In Flames, Children of Bodom, At The Gates, Kalmah and any other melodic death metal really. I joined when I was 15, and I don't post in the Golden Sun topics anymore, the only reason I come here is to post in topics like this and some in the off-topic section that tickle my fancy, also, there have been members older than me here before, age means nothing on a forum, as I can respect quite a lot of the 15/16 year old members and their views.
I wouldn't consider myself a "fanboy" as such, but more a dedicated fan, because I don't just listen to metal music exclusively (I don't mind the odd dose of jazz, classical, or progressive rock). And no, I'm not "time-rich". Working 2 jobs (I full-time, one 8 hours on the weekend) does quite the opposite I think you'll find.
I give 10/10 reviews more often than not because I'm playing one of my favourite tracks, which at the time usually deserves a 10/10 rating, if I was to be rating it based on originality, musicianship, production etc. and taking all the other musical aspects into account then you probably wouldn't see as many 10s. I rate the songs based on my opinion.
Furthermore, metal is one of, if not the most diverse blanket-term genre in the history of music. When you actually stop to consider the multitude of artists, bands, sub-genres and sub-sub-genres, plus the lengthy and interesting history, you will find it goes beyond "a bunch of drunken, albeit well rehearsed goons". By the way, only insult someone's grammar in that fashion if they actually deserve it ;p .
So please, before attacking, get you facts right :D .
Sonata Arctica - My Selene

Really, I shouldn't be replying, and instead leaving the incredibly long aesthetic of your post speak for itself; a pandering, worried, emo, trying to substantiate each and every point against him. It's nice to know you value the perceptions that people (who you've never met mind you) have of yourself.
Not time rich? It's quite a dedicated effort only posting a few hours following mine. Next!
As for the 10/10 rating, it's rather useless, and better if pure personal opinion is left out of the equation. Being a public forum, and the rating publicly stated to entice the public into taking an interest, it makes more sense to give an objective view. Rating everything 10/10 reeks of fanboy-ness.
Facts? Most metal IS derivative. I challenge you to state otherwise. Just like any genre. If you'd bother to research other styles, you'll find that rock and pop are EQUALLY, if not more, diversive. Metal suffers from rightly being pigeonholed due to a huge lack of differentiation within subgenres, and ESPECIALLY to the image that many choose to take on. But alas, this is natural selection at work, and marketing. I agree that much greatness exists within it. It's important to realise that there is a profound lack of dynamics in most metal, both from an audio, and a songwriting perspective.
So you like Jazz? Classical? Prove it. Make us believe that these are not merely token additions to your musical diet. And no, I do not want to see a couple of prime performers.
BACK ON TOPIC!!!

Anime fanboys/girls (Yuki etc) post in this topic all the time saying they're listening to random popy japanese compositions from various animes, my computer can't even display half the characters they use in the titles!
If they give any of their songs a 10/10 rating I'm not even going to bother asking for the English translation, let alone go and try and find it on the internet.
Now, I'm not a music nerd, I don't care or want to know what "a profound lack of dynamics from a song writing perspective" is, all I know is that I like the metal genre and it appeals to me. Just because its hard to classify metal into different sub genres, or that its diversive (or not) shouldn't detract from the music. Just because one song may sound like another (or indeed, one artist's picture look like another) doesn't detract from the skill or beauty of it.
As for Agatio being a "pandering, worried emo", that statement is just laughable. He's merely giving you a counter argument to your suggestion that hes a "metal fanboy too old to be on such a forum and too time-rich to have anything better to do than give impossible 10/10 reviews over and over."
Defending yourself in an argument doesn't mean your an insecure person fighting to stand up for himself before he burts into tears.
But anyway, back to the topic...

Good song, I've just got into this band and I think they're quite original, I've not heard another band like them that much. I really like the singer's voice too, it's pretty unique.

On ratings - whether you like it or not, we post our ratings publicly knowing (or at least, assuming) others will take notice, however subconscious that may be. It's human nature.
The emo statement isn't laughable. I'm being just as bad, by entering into a drawn out and fruitless debate. Apathy has it's merits.
Agatio on the other hand, has not exhibited that.
Better luck next time, kthxbai.

Being "not blindly attatched to it and able to look at it objectively" doesn't make you appriciate it more, or better than the rest of us. We all have our opinions, if some people like more metal than you, or like metal more than you then thats their choice. Why you have to come along and say "You're wrong for doing that" I don't understand.
Kissing the Shadows - Children of Bodom
Fave Bodom song at the moment.

A link to the past classical score. I love it, although it does sound like a piece put together on the computer instead of an actual orchestra playing, which is a shame. But I do like this song, love the mood it gives off

As for metal being derivative, every genre has artists that are derivative. Is every single pop music act today original? Every techno song? Every up and coming rock band? Or even very jazz and classical piece? No, they're not. I'm not going to deny that there are a hell of a lot of metal acts that are ****ing boring as hell and extremely derivative and bland (maybe even more so than other genres, as making a "heavy" band these days is almost becoming a growing trend among youth), no one is. But the fact remains that there is also a lot of original and fresh talent in metal and it's vast expanse of sub-genres and sub-genres upon that.
For example, with metal, there are essentially 2 types; extreme and non-extreme (for lack of a better expression). Within extreme you have black metal, death metal, grindcore etc. All VERY different when you have a good listen. Then expanding on death metal, there is melodic, technical, brutal and grind death metal, again all very different. Cannibal Corpse and Children of Bodom are 2 hugely different bands, as are Psycroptic and Severe Torture. Yet they are all under the same blanket term "death metal" which is a sub genres of extreme metal, which is then a sub-genre of metal. Face it, there are original and unoriginal bands in every genre, that doesn't make them either good nor bad. I could go on and on and listen all the different sub-genres and their original and unoriginal acts, but I think I have made my point fairly clear. Dark Tranquillity's new album, for another example, covers no new ground whatsoever, they have done it all before, and yet it's still a fantastic piece of melodic metal music.
Does being derivative and somewhat unoriginal make it bad? No, it still has a fresh sound. I'm not going to defend every metal band because they're metal, or even every sub-genre (metalcore and nu-metal for example are just plain awful). Also, I'm not going to bash genres because they're not metal. I see a lot of talent in a lock of rock bands, jazz acts, classical pieces, indie bands, acoustic artists, I just prefer metal music simply because I do. There is no other explanation, I just enjoy metal the most.
Sonata Arctica - Wolf and Raven
Power metal classic, brilliant lead guitar / keyboard work, and catchy to boot.

And now The Other Side of the Crash/Over and Out (of Control) - Thursday
I love this song, I think it's probably my favorite from them. The beat is catchy, the lyrics are good, everything is done well. Their car crash theme becomes pretty apparent here, but I think it was done better than Understanding In A Car Crash.

You're now skipping the fundamentals of the argument, and taking stabs at my intent. The reality of the situation? See my previous post - the elitism/hypocrisy (superiority complex, anyone?) is well and truly recent. Need I cite posts? No, others are capable of searching. Unless, you count being enlightened in the last few days as one such opinion-change, which conveniently co-incides with your changing of tune early on in the argument, at my spurring.
Check-and-mate.
Enjoy! For that is all that matters.

The first opening theme for Bleach. I don't really watch the anime/read the manga, but this song is still pretty good.

Nice beat, tho the annoying computer generated tune in the background tends to annoy me.

I just got Five score and Seven Years Ago, and I think that it's safe to safe that it rocks. This song is great, even though it's only a little longer than a minute, it sets the tone for the rest of the album. It's about Lincoln getting shot. I think. It's awesome.

Come Right Out and Say It - Relient K
Good, standard song. Nothing too surprising.

Currently, rap is getting really good for me, after a few (about two) years of dissapointment. With Akon, Bow Wow, Ludacris, T.I., Diddy to name the most prominent of the many... Rap is simply amazing.
This one here, stands out imo, Bow Wow really suprised me. 10/10.
The video makes this song even better btw.

I find it remarkable that in music, the languages of Tolkien can really enhance a beautiful tune. The lyrics flow, and the tone really does the first film justice.

It's a little...heavy, I guess. It's really not heavy at all, but it feels like it.
